It was published by MS in the US.  Tecmo owns the NG IP and they can do whatever they want with it.

You should give it a go imo. The combat is just amazing.

One of the biggest problems it had when it first came out was the loading times, and the fact that everytime u died you had to wait a bit for the reload. The install to hdd completely eliminates this problem and provides a far smoother ride. NG2 2008 GOTY.

Hmm, not that exciting.  NG2 was nowhere near as good as the original.  It would be nice if they would go back and polish up the visuals, however.  They were extremely rough on the 360 with tons of slowdown and a low resolution.  In general, multiplatform games are inferior on PS3, but as this is a port releasing much later there is a chance it will be more optimized.  At least NG1 was full 720p on PS3.

will play, but if they couldn't get 720p or a solid framerate on 360, this is probably going to be pretty nasty

though perhaps we shouldn't underestimate the morale boost associated with no longer being groped at work by a sort of mummy or sentient jerky snack in a leather wrapping

I'm guessing the PS3 version will be 720p @ 60fps but they'll cut back on shaders/textures/geometry.  The pics look like Sigma with NG2 enemies/characters.

Err, it's not as if NG2 was really even a step above Sigma.  :P  It did nothing special with shaders or textures and the geometry on many of its characters actually seemed like a downgrade from Sigma.  Plus, there was the whole low resolution thing.

I see no reason why a port like this couldn't be more polished.  Multiplatform issues tend to arise mostly when dealing with day and date releases.  Sigma was finished before NG2 was released, so this team has had plenty of experience with the PS3 hardware.

So according to Famitsu, Sigma 2--

-Will be out in fall 2009.
-Is a port of the 360 version released in 08, but will also come with new content (obviously).
-Is aiming at becoming a milestone of the Ninja Gaiden series.
-Will have new weapons, new bosses, and Ayane will be available as a playable character. She can pull off some special tag move with Ryu
-The game's development is at 50% at this point.

I really hope this means more stability and polish (aka a FINISHED product). A few new bosses and a playable character doesn't make up a "milestone" imo.

I think everyone really hopes it's that.

Also, just Ayane?  Fuck the story, put in Rachel, Hayate, and Kasumi too.  And the new chick with the guns.  Make them all play differently.

Sigma 2 has online co-op, just not in the main story mode.

Quote
Online Co-op: Two people can engage in online co-op play, with voice chat, in 10 different stages (in 4 difficulty settings) to complete special missions. Rankings from each mission are recorded and posted online, where gamers can choose their opponents based on players' mission stats.

Sigma 1 had a worse framerate than the original Ninja Gaiden.  Therefore, it makes more sense to expect that NG Sigma 2 would run even worse than NG2.

I played up to the 4th or 5th level in Sigma and experienced more slowdown than I did while playing NG all the way on the Xbox 1.  Just check out the fight with the horsemen in the village.  There's plenty of slowdown/tearing in that part that wasn't in the original NG.

wasn't there something with Sigma where playing it in 1080i/p caused more technical problems or something?

Sigma did have technical problems when I played it, just not too much.  Ninja Gaiden 2 ran worse with the weapon switch loading, massive slowdown and general mid-fight loading.

The chicks look pretty fun to play.  I just might get this.

I'm stuck with a lousy save in the last level of NG2 and probably won't be able to beat it unless I start over.  If I'm going to start over, I might as well try out the new features in Sigma 2.

Quote
New playable characters we say? Yes, brand new and even sexier (this is Team Ninja we're talking about). Sigma 2 will feature new playable female characters, which should be familiar to fans of the series and of Tecmo's Dead or Alive. The first is Ayane, the purple-haired ninja from DOA, who will come packing her own unique moves, weapons, magical attacks, and provocatively placed butterfly accessory. The second new character is Momiji, last seen at a lower resolution in Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword on the DS, who will bring her own arsenal of abilities and weapons to the fray. Both characters will be integrated into the story, which will branch off to follow their adventures. Not to be outdone in the new content department, Hayabusa will face off against new enemies and bosses with some new weapons tossed in to help deal with the new foes.

Beyond new playable characters, Sigma 2 will feature an all-new online co-op mode that lets you and a friend team up to work your way through more than 30 challenge stages, which can be played in one of four difficulty settings. Your performance will be ranked and uploaded to leaderboards so you can see how you stack up against the world. The stages will be a mix of original areas and those seen in the single-player game, which are being redone for co-op play. Finally, the game will see a good amount of work put into refining the gameplay experience. The game's camera is being tweaked based on user feedback. You will also get additional cues on where to go next from your playable character because your character's head will look off in the direction you're supposed to go in. You'll also find a variety of additional tweaks peppered throughout the gameplay to help make Sigma 2 a smoother, sleeker evolution of its 360 counterpart.

very interesting.

weirdly it looks like the game has been toned down violence wise though  :( or maybe its just early footage

So:

-Two more playable characters (maybe one more?  Another male character to balance it out?)
-More story
-More enemies
-More bosses
-More titties
-More Weapons
-Fixed camera
-Online co-op mode

Sounds good to me.  Maybe it's time to finally play through NG Sigma and DS.  I would love to see the online mode done RE Mercenaries style, with even more playable characters with their own unique moves and weapon sets added.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I did have some fun with NGII but it's easily a lesser polished game than the original. Maybe the new Team Ninja can help make it the game it should've been.

Hopefully the co-op also includes some sort of 1-on-1 Versus mode. That would be salivating.
mmm
