sounds awesome so far

Sigma 2 is making use of an enhanced version of the graphics engine used for the original game. The game is aiming to surpass the visual quality of the last game by blending new tech into the original engine.

720p w/ minimal slowdown plz!

I hope so but I'm kinda skeptical.  Companies often make statements like this to drive up hype for ports of old games but rarely do they deliver on their promises.

NG2's framerate and image quality weren't that bad anyways.  I'm more concerned about the crappy camera and incessant spamming of projectiles.  NG2 would be a far better game if they could fix those issues.

This is really fucking weak. WTF is the point of ever buying a 360 title from Tecmo if they'll just release the definitive version on PS3 a year later?
So you can play it and not have to wait a year.

People freak out too much. Get a second job, or something. I bought NG2 new at $60, bought it again at $10, and I'll buy Sigma 2 at $60. I don't give a fuck. Make it rain.

The mag has a quote from Hayachi saying, "Violence is not going to be one of the key selling points of this title... It's not all about how bloody it is." Instead they're going for "a much cooler, cleaner, sleeker look". So you won't see great big spurts of blood, but clouds of purple essence when enemies get dismembered.

The Xbox 360 code was interesting in that ran at a sub-HD resolution - specifically 1120×585. This resolution was chosen in that it allowed Team Ninja to cram a 2x MSAA processed image into the Microsoft console’s 10MB of EDRAM that’s attached to the Xenos GPU. What is curious is that based on the media released for the game so far, it looks as though the PS3 version of the game is running at the same sub-HD resolution

so much for hoping that it'd be 720p

:rofl

Resolution uh... smesolution?

The removal of the blood is an unforgivable sin. It means that even if Sigma is 1080p with a perfect 60fps and online co-op and all the mission mode content and new bosses and upgraded graphics and playable lady ninjas, it still isn't the definitive NG2.

Is the removal of blood a Japanese or worldwide thing, though? Seems like a reasonable decision for the home market, but pretty damned boneheaded for the rest of the world.

I don't think we know for sure because Japanese game devs talk in haiku, but the ninja dog making this game was making it sound like the removal of blood geysers was something they wanted to do in order to give the game a sleaker look.

What's the deal with the 360's 10MB framebuffer ram being a barrier for some games but not others?

I've got the Jap version of NG:Sigma.  There were no beheadings in that version but I don't remember if there were any blood.

They're removing the blood so they can sell the fucking game.
I mean, clearly. Hyper violent games don't sell to the man children propping up the doomed HD consoles.

This "replace blood with essence" idea is something I can get behind. While they're at it, replace horses with unicorns (small change), ninjas with Disney characters, and fiends with giant smurfs. In fact, just make the game a musical.

In Japan, genius ::)
Oh yeah, wow, what was I thinking. That makes much more sense. Chop the game up so that it will appeal to the 4 million or so Otakusans that have made HD gaming such a success story in Nippon.

I don't know...disappearing or flying limbs with purple dust isn't going to get it a teen rating.  I doubt this move is to increase sales.

Wait, did NG2 get a Z rating in Japan on 360? I don't recall any issues finding and buying it. Then again, i'm an old man.

btw, Draft - I know you're joking but 4 million otaku HD gamers in Japan is overstating the case by a factor of 2 at least. Pathetic, isn't it.

Start quoting European numbers for the PS3 from imaginary sources and we can turn EB into OA.

I've been reading up on this game and it seems so weird.  It sounds like they are turning it into a Ninja Gaiden 2 mod for Ninja Gaiden 1.  They said the speed is now back at 100% (compared to more than 125% in NG2 for 360) and enemies now come three or five at a time instead of ten (like in NG1).  There is other stuff like, supposedly, improved visuals (I guess they claim this despite having half as many enemies on screen, but whatever), a better camera, the purple essence crap instead of all the gore and more content.

I could see this pissing off people who played NG2, but I haven't, so I'm just blissfully ignorant. I loved the first Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox (bought Sigma but never played it) so I'd be happy with more gameplay like that.
