The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary.

The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.
Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more."
The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.
"We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner," Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine.
"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added.
Each week, Mr and Mrs Chawner, who have been married for 23 years, receive £177 in income support and incapacity benefit. Mrs Chawner is paid an extra £330-a-month disability allowance for epilepsy and asthma, both a result of being overweight.
Mr Chawner gets £71 a month after developing Type 2 diabetes because of his size. He was on a waiting list for a gastric band last year, but a heart condition made the operation unsuitable. Their daughter Samantha receives £84 in Jobseekers' Allowance each fortnight while Emma, who is training to be a hairdresser, gets £58 every two weeks under a hardship fund for low-income students.
Emma, said: "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" she said "We all want to lose weight to stop the abuse we get in the street, but we don't know how."

i spend like $30-40 a week on food. i eat very healthy

i don't think i'd be against welfare if there was mandatory birth control for those on it. i wouldn't even give a family member money if i thought it was likely he was going to knock some girl up.

what really sucks is that this type of thing will likely lead to bans on unhealthy foods down the line, since the government is in control of health care.

in a practical sense, i wouldn't mind either. i'd rather the occasional sweet, non-fruit, i eat contain cane sugar.

on principal though, i can't support a such a ban, because the same reasoning has been used to ban drugs and other substances which i really enjoy. i simply can't adhere to the philosophy that a few, or even a majority, of bad apples should ruin something for everyone.

Too much gov meddling imo; if people want to buy food that's unhealthy they have that right. Unfortunately they wind up clogging the health care system

I say give businesses tax incentives to do the right thing, but then again the country has been in such a health craze that many restaurants have already changed their ingredients to compete in the market. Like the trans fat scare for instance

That would be so fucking good. Last time I got a haircut, IN NOVEMBER, when this cute dresser asked me what I was going to do with a philo degree, I did my standard reply of working at starbucks. She then suggested I write music, because writing music is like philosophy. She then gave an example of some artist who I don't know. She must of thought this was a brilliant maneuver to sagway into talking about pop music which I have no knowledge of. After about five minuets she gave up trying to talk to me and started to talking to her friend and client nest to us. :'( :'( :'(

I gave her a 15% tip because the debt machine asked me to and I'd feel bad if she show that I didn't. It was a horrible haircut too.

I'm worth as much as a rotten mushroom. :'(

i have extremely soft/thin hair that looks bad when wet. this really cute girl would often cut my hair when i was living at college, and she'd try to make conversation but i was too lame to hold an engaging conversation because i was insecure about my hair.

now i go to some long-haired bad-ass guy who has all these classic rock vinyls and plays guitar when waiting for customers. he doesn't talk at all during haircuts, and i wish he would.

There are no wal-marts where I live, I live in some librul utopia town that banned wal-mart so it doesn't even matter. But I am curious if it was some new thing because I never saw them at wal-mart's when I was a kid.

I don't think it's associated with Wal Mart. It's in the building but I think it's independent. Like when you see Mc Donalds in Wal Marts.

Yeah, I've seen those. McDonalds and Pizza places and stuff. Even eye glass stores. But never haircuts, weird. I guess it's been around in stores a while then.

Definitely agree with that. The main reason hfcs is used in almost all processed food is because its price is actually artificially lowered by corn subsidies.

There's an overweight chick who works at the barbershop. Most dudes don't seem interested in sitting in her chair, so she'll always be near it looking all smug. One time I felt so bad for her that I let her cut my hair. She's good but I prefer the dude who usually cuts my hair.

I dunno, the teacher always asks how they did and I always say it's great or whatever no matter what. The student is always standing right there! I of course have to be nice, plus they tend to be hot. They could have shaved it all off and I'd say they did a great job probably.
