As a huge Horror fan, seeing people get their intestines ripped out of their ears, having their arms cut off and just general on screen massacres, they don't phase me.

But even though I knew it was going to happen, when Harvey Milk got shot in the movie, I felt fucked up. I was sad for the rest of the day (yesterday) and fucking angry.

I guess in a Horror movie, you go in expecting to be grossed out, so its more like a freak show where as Milk really showed you how fucking shitty people can be every day. Jason Voorhees isn't a monster, Dan White is.

The only odd thing about the shooting was that he was shot in the hand at first and it scraped away a bit of his thumb.  You kinda expect everyone to be a crackshot and go for that one headshot, but accidentally hitting someone's hand at first is fucked up.  It's not like he was shot in the leg and had to limp away or anything either, it was just getting hit in the thumb because the guy was a bad shot.

What about the mayor? I guess since he was straight, it was okay that he got shot too.

No, it was just more logical to devote more screen time to Milk's death since he's sorta the title character and the mayor was introduced more than halfway through the film.

It's on my Netflix queue right now (Miracle at St. Anna) so I'm going to still hope that it is good.
