They need to reset the franchise.  They can keep pika for marketing purposes but I want a return to the days of fewer pokemon and less convoluted evolution methods.  Also redo the type chart and make the levelcap 50.

Are the battles any faster?  They were SO SLOW in D/P.

I read they sped up the battles and other additions. I never got past the beginning of Diamond so I will probably play this one.

Probably

I played like an hour last night and the battles are indeed faster.  Not like Dragon Quest V 1 speed fast, but faster...

they also changed up how you get your first pokemon.  I chose Piplup this time around, and I'm already regretting it.  Chimchar is too awesome.

there's no lag; it's just stupid choppy. however, i couldn't play more than 30 minutes of the last pokemon game without feeling a crushing sense of ennui, so i'm not even gonna bother this time 'round.

Have they made the WiFi more interesting? I was very disappointed by...just about everything in the first DS title. I liked the stream lined menus and stuff but it was still almost the same damn game with a new paint job.

I want a more open world where you can interact with other people. Like say allowing 20 people or so to be playing in a server-like environment where you can attack each other, trade, chat, train together, tag team gym leaders, etc. Like a limited MMO

That's wishful thinking given Nintendo's backward online implementation this generation.

I think I'm done falling into the pokemon trap.  I really liked Blue way back when (and Red, Yellow, etc.) but after that I would buy the games, play a couple of hours and just stop.  I have Sapphire (the blue one I think) for the DS that I barely played and I don't need another pokemon game to barely play.

Diamond was the first one I played since G/S and I loved it. I'd like to see them find a better way to deliver messages in battle though, when there's  alot going on it gets pretty annoying. I'm gonna get Platinum.

my favorite is still gold/silver.  game was fucking awesome.

Loved it but Blue/Red is still my favorite. Probably played Blue more than any game, ever (only game that comes close in terms of me obsessing over it is StarCraft).

I bought the DS one mainly due to that nostalgia. The day Nintendo brings their online system into the 21st century with Pokemon, I'll be there on day one. Until then meh

I kinda remember being horribly disappointed in Diamond's lineup of Pokemon and how slow the battles were. Diamond was definitely the most forgettable game of '07 though. In fact, I just recently checked my copy of diamond and apparently I have 72 hours (?!) put in it yet I don't remember any of it. Seriously, who would buy Platinum besides the kiddies or the crazy competitive people?

I played through Diamond and really liked it, but got bored with my DS and traded it in.  Now, I have a DSi on reserve, and I picked up Platinum.  I figure, since I've played just about every pokemon game that was a normal pokemon game (Blue, Red, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Leaf Green,  Diamond, and even the fucking trading card game on GBC), I might as well play this one.  I'm just waiting for the DSi to start playing.

I had B/R, loved them like whoa

Next I got Sapphire, I got like 2/3rds through it and got bored.

I got that Red remake on GBA after it was years old and really enjoyed that.

I allowed myself to get excited for D/P somehow, played about 2/3rds of it again and then I couldn't take the slow ass bullshit and repetition anymore.

After playing the DQ remakes, even a sped up D/P will feel like a long turd. Maybe I'll stick FireRed in my micro and buy GTA DS :o

I dunno, I loved R/B and G/S (especially!), and even liked R/S, but I picked up Pearl near launch and it took me 8 months of off-and-on play to actually beat the elite four.  Then when I decided to get the national dex I realized I had to track down a bunch of "legendary" pokemon to actually get it.  Then I plopped it on eBay because I'm tired of that bullshit.

Then I looked into buying Platinum and all it offers are some minor upgrades and a slightly different storyline.  That's all they could come up with in two years?  I just want my Silver remake already.

The franchise has become a gigantic clusterfuck that almost requires a strategy guide to play.  The evolution mechanisms are bullshit and confusing (your pokemon must have this certain one move at a certain level but you'll never figure that out on your own!)  Personality influences on stats aren't explained ingame.  Breeding moves are never listed ingame.  Its nearly impossible to get several pokemon from previous generations without buying several older versions and tediously trading. A gigantic portion of moves are redundant and pointless.  You're expected to now know which fire/water/etc type attacks are physical or special in addition to every poke having one of two traits.  BITCH BITCH BITCH

I used to love pokemon when it wasn't such a bloated web of numbers and statistics and general bullshit.  I'll gladly sign back up when they reset the franchise.

Oh fuck yes.  Days of Ruin was the last great game I had before I gave my ds away.  And the reason it was awesome is because the superflous baggage the series had built up was removed.  I don't think it did that great retail wise but lets blame marketing shall we.

-Pokemon needs to get back down to ~200-300 pokes.  Less filler, more type combinations and full evolution lines.
-redo the type matchups and criteria so we don't end up with redundancies like 5 bug/flying types.  Have it make sense.  Water beats rock?  Ice not effective against water?
-lower level cap so I can raise many monsters in a shorter time to be battle ready.
-Evolution is obtained either through level up/stones/something intelligble.  No more of this trading with a specific item attached or max happiness at nightime nonsense.I NEVER GOT A POLITOED CUZ DIS.
-one trait per species, period
-tms can be reused so I don't have to farm from other copies.
-lower damage moves need to compensate by having effects that happen more than 10% of the time.
I actually like alot of the stuff they have added but they let themselves get carried away by some bad design choices that were relatively minor in the first game.

They scrapped all of the bloated bullshit from the first DS game, threw away all of the characters, the continuing plot, the artstyle, they scrapped a bunch of units and introduced a bunch more while changing up the balancing of the ones that carried over. They also scrapped the War Room that was clogged with decade-old SNES challenge maps and went with brand-new, ground-up challenge maps in their new campaign layout.

It's debatable whether the end result is better than AW1, but it's definitely better than AWDS.

Oh, they overhauled CO powers too, let you have hero units on the field.
