Pretty amazing how much vegetation there still is despite all the radiation.
Theres broken glass everywhere in Pripyat, not just cause of vandalism, but also down to the fact that all the windows had to be left open in the town, to stop pockets of radiation collecting indoors.
There's a good documentary episode, some English guy that goes around eating dangerous food. He went to Chernobyl and got tricked into drinking some brandy made with contanimated plums. As soon as he found he had a look on his face like shit there's 5 years of my life gone or he maybe of even said it.
what kind of asshole pulls a prank like that?
I can't believe they got that close to the reactor.Having been exposed to radiation from cancer treatments in the past, I wonder if it would even be advisable for someone like me to go there. He's using a different metric than what I am familiar with though. I was exposed to 46 gray(s) - most of which went right through my spinal cord. My doc told me that anything above 50 gray(s) on the spinal cord and you start significantly increasing the risk of paralysis. Complete paralysis happens around 75 gray(s). There's gotta be a difference though since cancer treatment radiation is so localized.
If you can get hold of it, I recommend watching the nz docu The Nuclear Comeback.
