Oh, stop being so bitter. At worst, it will be a damned pretty, entertaining little shooter game with great presentation.  If they can get co-op in this time, it will be hot as hell. Also needs giant robot levels, and less rail grinding.

Insomniac died after UYA

Have you played Tools of Destruction? It was a total retread, but it was a very good one.

I'll be bitter all I want. Why play these games when I can spend $5 for UYA and have the same experience?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I liked it because it was prettier, larger, has some fun new weapons and enemies, and is generally a better game than UYA (not better than GC, though). It was nothing amazing, and it really should have had a co-op mode, but it was an entertaining and very pretty game. As for "why buy this when I can get the same for cheap?" I take it that with those standards, you don't get a whole lot of gaming done these days.

It sells, I guess.

I thought Insomniac had a chance at breaking free with the first Resistance (was a good effort in a genre they were not particularly familiar with).  Heck, I think most were happy to see another Ratchet game on a new platform as well.  However, I'm disappointed to see that they've jumped right back into the rut.  Resistance 2 was a huge let down and the prospect of yet another Ratchet game simply isn't exciting.

I thought Bend actually did a better job with the Resistance franchise than Insomniac themselves, actually (despite the limitation of the hardware).

I have not had the opportunity to play ToD yet, seeing as I owned a PS3 for all of 16 hours. I could see the writing on the wall with Deadlocked though and it continued with Resistance (Insomniac going through the motions). I personally enjoyed Size Matters more than Deadlocked. When I eventually pick up a PS3 again, ToD will be the first game I play so I hope that it is a worthy follow up to GC and UYA. I honestly hope you're right duckman  :'(

ToD was a lot of fun, but nothing revolutionary.

It would be nice to see Insomniac try something new again, but whatever.

Deadlocked was the anomaly, and I think it was basically a precursor to Resistance. Tools of Destruction is a proper Ratchet game. It's a bit too much of a proper, safe Ratchet game with less awesome Clank levels, and there are some things, like the grind boots crap, that really need to retire. But it's definitely no Deadlocked.

I didn't like how Deadlocked lacked cool weapons and essentially no platforming. they substituted tons of great weapons for vanilla versions with a mod system  :yuck. It was just too sterile and boring, taking place in only a few environments.

The enemy/creature design in Deadlocked was much better than in Resistance, which I found really sad. It's as if they deliberately restrained themselves with Resistance, when it really could have been a crazy alien invasion game.

Quite the opposite, really. Although I'm not convinced that added time would have much of an effect on Ratchet. I don't think it's open to the same kind of transformation as, say, Mario, so they are basically stuck with minor variations to the Going Commando format. Now Resistance, on the other hand, could probably benefit a lot from looser release scheduling.

Quite the opposite, really.

Really?

Yeah, really. Critics praised Resistance 2, because hey, it addressed all the "issues" that those shitheads had with the first one. Although as said, I don't think time and resources would do much difference for Ratchet. The best they could do, short of ditching it in favor of something new, is to make sure they get everything that is good about Ratchet into the game.

Resistance is mediocre. Man, Insomniac is nothing but a solid game factory, they are a bunch of creatively bankrupt developers.

They really aren't that great as platformers, but they are entertaining monster shooters with platforming elements, with great presentation. Going Commando is one of my favorite games of that generation.

How was the downloadable PS3 episode?  It was going for $10 recently on PSN.

I enjoyed Tools of Destruction but that's mostly due to the fact that I didn't play much of the PS2 games.  I could totally understand why people would get sick of R&C.  Even in just TOD alone, the gameplay gets a little banal after the first couple of levels.  There simply isn't enough platforming in between the fighting.  It's like a weird combination of a Rare collectathon and 3rd person shooter minus good AI and interesting level designs.

The visual presentation in TOD was mostly great though.  I stuck with the game till the end just so that I can check out what all the worlds looked like.

I thought the first Resistance was pretty brilliant (I don't play PC FPS titles, by the way), but the sequel was awful.

It helps that there aren't a ton of alternatives out there. For all the shit that the cartoony platformer with furry mascot trend got back in the day, I sort of miss it, which might account for why I've been so tolerant of the shortcomings of Banjo N&B. TOD was a by the book Ratchet, but that in itself makes it sort of appealing in the midst of grit and realism that everyone seems to strive for these days.

As much as I'm looking forward to infamous and think that Sly needed a long vacation, I'm a bit bummed that a company that is obviously great at the cartoony has moved away from it. Infamous seems like a much more successful mix of old and new than Resistance has been, but still.

Insomniac needs to leave R&C and Resistance alone for now and create something different.  :-\

Three R&C + three Resitance games in three years is way too much imo.

I've always thought that Naughty Dog were much better at creating platforming gameplay than Insomniac.  It was just unfortunate that NG chose to clutter the last two Jak and Daxter games with a bunch of GTA lite elements that nobody enjoyed.

Oh ok. But my point is still valid.

Way too many Resistance and R&C games were released in a short time.

Insmoniac needs to make something new. I'd like them to make a new PSN game.

True dat.  I don't get Sony's continued obsession with pumping out new titles for franchises that really aren't that popular.

Sony seem to think their 1st party franchises are equivalent to Nintendo's.   It's just so delusional.

When it comes to popularity, Nintendo has the advantage. But when it comes to quality games, Sony has the edge.

Nintendo's first party offering has been laughably bad lately. But they still somehow manage to sell their crappy software.

But yeah, Ps2-era Sony was way better. Thanks to God of War and the Team Ico games.

I would go so far as calling Going Commando my favorite game of all-time. It was one of the games that really got me back into gaming after a few years off. I would be hard pressed to really recommend it as a platformer though, as it is much more of a shooter with some light platforming tossed in. The greatness of GC and UYA only makes Deadlocked that much more disappointing  :-\

Deadlocked can be enjoyed, but you really have to detach it from Ratchet. I was pretty appalled by the game the first time I tried it, which incidentally was right after UYA, but once I started treating it like a cartoony UT, it was a lot of fun.

As someone who liked ToD, it was a complete piece of shit. It had a couple of nice ideas that were flatly executed, and the rest was dog shit. I felt completely ripped off, which rarely happens for me.

The teaser sucks because it's a minute of nothing and then 10 seconds of CG...meh.

The gameplay better be the new hotness because after Quest for Booty I do not want to play more of the same.
