Dell sent a tech to my office today to swap out the motherboard on a D630. The guy swapped the thing out, and their 'new' refurb piece of shit motherboard won't recognize hard drives. The fucking BIOS lists that there's no drive present and the Dell Diagnostics list no drive as being present. I can confirm that the drive works because I swapped the hard drive with one in another 630. The other 630 boots with this hard drive fine, and this 630 still says there's no HD in it, even though I have the other known working one in it.

So what happens? I finally get a minute to call dell about it tonight, and the fuckers won't do anything unless I sit there and run their diagnostics. I fucking ran them at work today and the error that came back said there was no fucking drive in the system. And they won't replace it because I don't have a fucking error code because I'm at home.

Those boards are cake to install yourself.  Dell techs are just subcontractors. I've never had an issue with chat support in fact I prefer that method as a time saver. It sounds like you didn't get someone who knew anything about a computer and was just going through her motions so her computer would tell her what to say next.

I don't know how the replacement system works but do they have on site techs calling the same people a regular PC user who thinks their monitor is the PC would call? This isn't to say all IT workers are competent but shit, having to handhold you through a diagnostic is annoying. And making sure there isn't any other issues (which he seems to state) is hilarious, why can't they be this thorough with their motherboards before their installed.

I talked to Dell customer support last Friday about a Dell PowerEdge 860 I have.  Diagnostics said the CMOS battery was dead.  They sent out a whole new motherboard Friday.  It arrived Monday.  They didn't hassle me about it at all.  They didn't give me shit about handholding me through more diagnostics or other tests.  Just sent it out.  Tuesday he asked if I was satisfied and if I had fixed the problem.  I said yes and he closed out the issue.
