For serious, what's the deal with Danish people?
« on: March 30, 2009, 12:39:21 AM »
So, my old Danish roommates moved out. Which is good, they were kind of assholes and we let them walk all over us. Our new Danish roommates moved in. They're much nicer, although they're incredibly fucking white-people. They shop at Whole Foods, listen to Coldplay and weak world music and they make a shitload of money.

Anyway, a friend of my wife and myself hit a bit of a rough patch. She works on movies and with the economy being what it is, a bunch of her gigs got canceled. Then her apartment got condemned. So, since we have a large-ish apartment with a totally unused cozy corner of the basement, we told her to move her stuff in for 2 or 3 weeks while she gets her life together. She's a completely normal person, it's not like she's a flaky artist or an unemployed junkie.

So, I ran it past my roommates- Our non-Danish roommate was totally cool with it and the Danes were also fine. Today, our friend moves her shit in. We had an extra mattress, so we kind of set up a little quasi-bedroom in the corner as we've done for guests in the past. She's not here THREE hours and all of a sudden the Danes have had like. Some major meltdown. The guy was freaking out, he pretty much told her to go get a hotel room. She had some funny, antique Chinese communist posters, so I hung one up on the wall. He actually took it down!

Now, whatever. It can be a pain to have a guest. But she's out of the way AND he's had friends staying here for the last two weeks. While we were out eating dinner before he called me SIX TIMES in 20 minutes. I finally called him back and he was like "IS SHE PAYUNG RENT HOW MUCH IS SHE PAYING WHAT ABOUT UTILITIES IS SHE LOOKING FOR A NEW PLACE". And we talked about this stuff already.

It's just like. I don't know. Is this a cultural thing? They love to be very... up-front, really intense. They love to force their opinon. And they are HORROCIOUS at sharing. Having lived with 4 Danish people now, none of them have ever offered me anything.

Anyway, I was hoping to avoid some kind of tense negotiation shit. Our friend will gladly split utilities and cough up a bit for rent, but she's in a bad spot and it just seemed like a nice thing to do. I hate tot turn into a fucking business deal. And I hate that last week they were very relaxed about it and now it's like she's a rabid racoon or some shit.

So, LESSONS: Danes are temperamental, kind of assholes, who don't like sharing.

Going in September.

Also, these Danes seemed different. I got fooled.

Our old Danish roommate apparently cheated on his girlfriend of TWELVE YEARS and just broke up with her. He was a fucking jerk off.

My roommate Mike RULES. He's the best. Because he's USA ALL THE WAY. I dunno. It's just a matter of being like. Chilled out. Doing a nice thing. I am, belive it or not, a church going man of the faith. And my wife and I are really blessed with our circumstance. And it's great to be able to share that with someone in need. Why do we have to fucking get something out of it? I'm sick of life always being about some kind of capital. It's not a business proposal.

Is there any reason you got more Danes, or is it just a coincidence you landed them two times in a row?

They worked together. And we sat down with this new dude and had a really nice conversation and it seemed to go really well. But after he moved in he just kind of became. Like, if I didn't hear him fucking his girlfriend like every night, I'd assume he was HYPER-gay. He gets really worked up about stupid shit, like when a piece of tape left a little mark on the wall. We had a funny little statue that held a bottle of wine of the table and he like boxed it up and put it away. Just weird little shit, like he can't abide goofy things.

I dunno. Being young and broke is kind of a thing and I think it puts you in a community with people and I think he's just. Not there? I don't know exactly.

I've had pretty good luck with roommates over the years, mainly because I'm surprisingly easy to get along with- pay your shit on time and don't steal my shit.  The place I lived at in Atlanta was one of those funky old places that was pretty cheap, kind of crappy but was IN A GREAT LOCATION.  No central heat/air, but we had window units, etc etc.

Whatever.  Point was, I went through like eight roommates in about six years and only ONE guy ever had a problem because the place was old and funky, but he was kind of a bitch anyhow.  He even lived there TWICE over the years, so it's not like he didn't know the deal with the place, but he was just too much of a bitch about, I don't know, not having spiders and living in a funky place.

should have looked for swiss renters. you can't beat having a swiss roommate:

- very clean and organized
- polite and respectful
- usually rich
- usually speak several languages, and not some fucking useless one like danish
- can drink legally at 16 so they can really handle their alcohol
- excellent skiiers
- the men have big cocks (at least in my experience)

The German Swiss are the best.

Hopefully your insane Danish roomates come around a little now that the whole money issue is apparently worked out.

My roommate is dirty as fuck. He stinks up whatever room he's in. I know he doesn't take showers daily, and his clothes often smell. He has this dirty hair/wet dog/cheese smell with a whiff of shit stains. Luckily he's been staying with his mom lately; she broke her foot and he's been helping her out I guess. So it's been good to have the house smelling nice

His room is atrocious. Hell, my room is no Swedish paradise but I don't have clothes everywhere, and it certainly doesn't stink. For some reason he doesn't spend much time in his room, instead opting to use his laptop in our family room or dining room. So his school books/paper will be all over the dining room table, or he'll be hogging the tv while using his laptop, etc.

One time my brother told him he needed to leave his door closed because his room stunk. So he made a huge deal out of it, asking me if I thought the room smelled, calling friends and asking if they had any complaints. Then he burned some incense in the room and opened the windows. About a week later it was smelling like shit again.

And he's not even some ugly cretin of a dude. He has a nice car, has a girlfriend who comes over everynow and then, etc.

We Dutch are actually awesome. The Danish are losers. Seriously, all of us speak atleast 2-3 languages. We have the best protection against floods the world has ever seen. The Dutch were consulted in the case of Katrina, while the Danish were being idiots and just eating whatever the hell they eat. Also, they are greedy, the never offer anyone, anything.

Holland legalized weed, Danish can go to hell.

I lived with a Bulgarian in college and he was one dirty fucker. I even knew the guy and we were friends before we lived together, I guess I just never knew how dirty he actually was. He used to use silverware and put it back in the drawer, and I saw him drop stuff on the floor and put it back as if it were clean. He had a nasty girlfriend (who would shave her legs in the bath, which would leave nasty hairs coating the tub) and the worst were the shitstains he would leave on the toilet. It's like, you're a dude and I know you fucking notice the stains when you lift the lid to take a piss (unless he pissed sitting down like a bitch) so why don;t you clean it up? I sure as fuck didn't leave shit stains on the seat, and if I did I sure as fuck cleaned it up.

One of my Atlanta roommates was a Swiss exchange student.  She was pretty chill and didn't really rock the boat- she liked to hang out, watch crappy American tv and get drunk on the weekends.  She was kind of slutty, too- she fucked my other roommate and I kind of get the feeling she would have fucked me too if I didn't have a girlfriend at the time.

What kind of food do they cook?  I've had little experience with Danish cuisine.
