season 3 is pretty amazing, i felt but a lot of people hated it because of the shift and a lot of "filler" episodes.  i love the filler episodes because i enjoy character.

i'm on my watch through as well, i made it to part of season 4 but then decided i'd wait until the show had ended to watch it all at once.

I really liked some of the filler episodes, like the one where they had to get new energy supplies and with the strike.

what's considered filler? Like the eps where they needed to get more fuel or water?

I guess the ones that don't advance the main storyline? Right? I assume the ones that are just about life on the fleet, with all its difficulties and stuff, to be filler...

yeah stuff that doesn't deal directly with cylon threats.  I just watched the Get Fuel episode yesterday and it was pretty awesome.  i love the scene w/ Adama and Starbuck in the weight room where he's using the weights to show her how weak her knee really was.

my feeling in rewatching is that the stuff on Caprica where Helo and Cylon-Boomer is a bit weaker than i recall.  lots of running, no real development.

I thought i was the only one that hated that episode, all the people i talk to about BSG seem to like that episode for some reason. >:(
Oh it does get better, but season 1 still stands as the best overall season out of the 4 (despite some episodes in 2-4 being the peak of the series in terms of quality) there's not a single bad episode in season 1, while theres some duds spread out through s2-4 that breaks up the pacing of the show.

I was mostly referring to the trial. Everything related to that was made of pure AWESOME (especially Baltar's attorney and Lee's character-redeeming speech). The big reveal, on the other hand, felt like a cheap twist, but it isn't anything compared to some of the stuff LOST has pulled, so I can live with it. I was kinda expecting something like this anyway ever since the #3 saw the final 5 in that temple and recognized them.

You make me  :( with your roslin hate, easily the best character in the show next to baltar, and tigh. 8)

S2E2 is pretty stupid. Now Centurions can only be destroyed by explosive rounds? That would be cool if we hadn't already seen Helo kill a number of Centurions with normal bullets. SMH, writing team. I'm guessing Centurion armor will be nerfed again when it isn't necessary for a plot device.
That episode was pretty point-less overall, i barely remember it.

I can totally understand someone hating Roslin. I flip-flop on her a lot, actually. I just have to give her points for sticking to her guns, even if the actress that plays her is an annoying twat at times. Gaius is far and away my favorite though.

I agree, I was pretty ok with the conceit that they're just using another word for "fuck" but since it's set in an alternate world they can substitute an alternate word and both the audience and the censors will be satisfied.

Then they started tossing it around like Smurfs saying "smurf" though.

I have to admit that Tigh grew on me big time after New Caprica. Sucks that his whore wife coming back from the dead resulted in the death of his unborn child :'(

Anyway, this season has been excellent so far, especially the mutiny. I haven't enjoyed the show this much since early S2. Maybe I was just burnt out though. I can't wait to see how it all wraps up, even though I've already had the finale semi-spoiled (the GOD DID IT angle mostly). I hope I'm not disappointed.

I don't think you have do be a militant atheist to be annoyed by a slipshod "God Did It!" deus ex machina ending that makes the 4th Season seem mostly pointless.  It was a nice ending for all the characters, but shoddy storytelling in terms of the series-long arch.

Maybe it's because I already had that spoiled for me that I was just inclined to go along with it, but weren't they playing up the whole "God's plan" angle since, like, the miniseries? How does that count as a deus ex machina?

I guess somewhere along the way I stopped caring so much about the plot (other than a resolution for Cavil & company) and fell in love with the characters, so maybe I'm just too willing to accept a cheap plot device. I was expecting it to be a LOT worse though, the way it was talked about.

As others have said, just because the show had religious themes doesn't mean that it makes sense for God to show up and directly influence events.  Plus it was just a stupid, rushed way to wrap up mysteries that couldn't have any other resolution (Starbuck's resurrection and knowledge).  Any ending of this sort kind of begs the question as to why God didn't step in sooner if (S)he is not above directly meddling with affairs, and why even when God decided to intervene it still took 20-odd episodes to zap the humans to Earth.

Even beyond that, there are plenty of dumb things about the finale -- everyone agreeing to give up their technology, Cavil magically trusting the humans after a stupid Baltar speech, Caprica falls in love with Tigh and then has a miscarriage and then immediately falls back in love with Baltar, etc.

I totally argee that the overall plotting was shoddy, but i reckon that's to be expected, considering the plotting \ mythology weren't planned out from day one. I think they did (mostly) a good job of making up the story as they go along without running into to many plot-holes, heck they even rationalized one in one episode.
BTW should't you spoiler that, since there are people itt who haven't watched season 4 yet. :lol

I think it made perfect sense for 'god' to be revealed as influencing the events of the series,  i mean prior to the finale i posted a list of unanswered questions on a orther forum and one of them was 'who is the cylon god?', it did come to conveniently though i guess, i was expecting much more detail on what the 'cylon \ one true god' was, maybe 'the plan' will shed some more light on this?

I still think there was enough in the previous seasons to support where the finale went. Head Six telling Gaius about God's plan in the miniseries (plus mentioning it hundreds of times throughout the show), Baltar repenting in the very first episode, Head Six telling Baltar that she is an angel S2 and S3, Head Six knowing that Adama was going to be shot, the humans and Cylons running into each other on the algae planet....plus, didn't she somehow know that Hera was still alive?

God sitting around with his thumb up his ass is the one thing that did bug me. Maybe he wanted everyone to get some personal growth from their journey. Maybe he wanted to see how far they would get on their own. Maybe he gets his jollies from fucking with people. Maybe he took a nap and overslept by a couple of years. I duno.

And yeah, everyone giving up their technology was a little far-fetched. I was never really happy with the way the writers created relationships out of thin air, so I can let the Caprica Six thing slide. I didn't think it was nearly as ridiculous as the pairing of Dualla and Lee, especially since before that they had maybe 3 minutes of screen time together. Starbuck falling in love with Anders after having a 3 day fling with him on Caprica was pretty silly, too.

I liked Saul for a while but then they turned him into a vagina.

Oh, I almost forgot one of my favorite moments of the finale:
