It's being done by Climax Studios, who did Silent Hill: Origins, and it's being composed by Yamaoka.

That is what I wanted to hear. (hopefully you meant Climax UK who finished Origins and not Climax US who started and blew it)

I'm not guilty of playing Luigi's mansion.  Score one for me.

It's awesome, of course you did not play it

How was Super Princess Peach and Wario Land Waggle?

Because I have no desire to play these either and I can't fathom who outside of neckbeard fanboys would.  Well some girls I know come to think of it. They get a pass.

okay wtf, youre a Wii only gamer but youre 'above' games like Princess Peach and Warioland?

I did have mariokart for a few weeks.  I'm so ashamed.
Do you even enjoy games?  You're ashamed about the games you play...yet you only own a Wii!?!  What the hell.

Warioland Shake-it was a great platformer well worth playing (one of the better games on Wii, really).  Luigi's Mansion was excellent as well.  What the hell kind of games do you actually play?  If you're skipping good games on the Wii, it doesn't exactly leave you with a lot of choices.

I'm not literaly ashamed.  I just have no desire to play with these side characters.  Its superficial bullshit I know but it hinders my enjoyment. I'd rather see new personalities and intellectual properties created for new game types.  Just a preference thing really.

Side characters? Birdo is front stage, always, and he's glorious.

You have got to be kidding me.  You're a Nintendo fan who exclusively games on the Wii yet you're unwilling to enjoy games with "side characters"?  I would also love to see Nintendo create some new IPs on par with their primary series...and have been saying this for TEN YEARS.  Nothing is going to change.  Nintendo is more milk happy than ever.

If you want original, interesting software you've selected the wrong platform.  I still can't believe that you'd actually skip out on a high quality 2D platformer created with high quality sprites and painted backgrounds.

I suppose that explains the tragic lineup that looks like something you'd fine years after a system was abandoned.  When the average Wii  retail space resembles a dirty bargain bin, you know something is wrong.

Just what kind of games DO you play on the Wii?

In ECG's version of Silent Hill, he's assaulted by good games. He mumbles an esoteric response and wanders away.

I agree that a lot of the interesting games are coming out on other platforms (need to try Flower, Braid [c'mon fucking Mac port], Mirror's Edge), but Wii has it's fair share of unique IPs. The amount of Wiimakes is a bit upsetting, I'll admit, but the one discussed in this thread is essentially a reboot for the series, starting at page one. So, uh: No More Heroes, LIT, LostWinds, MadWorld, de Blob (no, really), Boom Blox, Zack & Wiki, Excite Truck, Endless Ocean. All of these games (with the possible exception of de Blob) would be extremely different on any other platform. I understand that some of these games may lack whatever distinctions you find "hardcore," but they're still fun, which is that intangible quality that drives most consumers to games anyways.

But, yeah, I don't share the same opinions with EmCee. I don't mind spinoffs (even though the terms come to be a bit of a bad word) with mascots in 'em, as long as they're quality and implemented correctly. It's when Nintendo, or any company for that matter, obviously forces them into games that I get upset.

You're pretty much wrong Dark1x.  It was bad back in the cube days when every other release is Mario, but ever since the ds they've been funding new ips.  I even enjoy the Wii ____ lineup.

They haven't funded any really GOOD IPs, though.  I want to see new Nintendo IPs with the quality of something like Zelda or Mario aimed at those fans.

Name the Wii games you're thinking of.

I mean, the list of completely original IPs published by Nintendo and released in the US is hardly exciting...

Endless Ocean
Excite Truck
Wii Fit
Wii Music
Wii Play
Wii Sports

Endless Ocean was nifty, but not a great game.  Excite Truck is reasonably popular, but it looks like shit and is fairly rough around the edges.  Again, not AAA.  I hate all of the Wii_____ games as well.

So what original Nintendo IPs are you thinking of?  They seem to have done more with the Gamecube, to be honest.

Hmmmm, I suppose the benefit of the PS2 version is that you could play it upscaled on a BC PS3.  The Wii has a piss poor video DAC which results in pretty awful image quality.

Well, I'm going to give it a try, especially since Silent Hill: Homecoming was actually decent.

You mean Origins?  :P  Climax made Origins but had nothing to do with Homecoming (which I also enjoyed).

Getting the superior (upscaled) Ps2 version then.

Urgh, the Wii can't catch a break when it comes to exclusive support.

Looks nice, but the more I think about zero combat the more I'm not so sure.

The FEAR in SH/FF games comes from the suspense that an enemy might pop out and you might have to use poor combat and controls to fight them, which could end in your demise.  Here if you know you're not going to have to fight anything ever, I really wonder if it'll be scary anymore.  I mean you'll know 100% that any enemy you find you'll be able to just avoid.  Will take a wait and see approach I guess.

Sounds amazing.  I think no combat is a nice way to shake things up.  Imagine playing the first part of RE4 with no weapons and desperately trying to survive until the bell rings. :D

I don't think it'll be as easy as "Oh, here's another monster, I'll just run to the next room and avoid him".

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.  the game wil be lots of fun when you can only run away for 20 hours.  has anyone tried to figure out how the boss fights are going to go?  maybe run over to a switch on a wall and drop a cage over the monster's head?

this has got to be a joke.

No combat? Aren't the same people that did homecoming doing this? Then what gives?

No, it's the Origin team.

Same with the Fatal Frame series and Echo Night: Beyond.

Siren mixed it up.  The no combat portions were basically stealth based puzzles (you had a very specific objective and had to find a way to reach your objective without being caught or killed).  I'd imagine Silent Hill SM will play very differently.

I would argue that Fatal Frame was full of combat, however.  You didn't use a standard weapon, per se, but the camera definitely functioned as one.
