The 20th Century TV show's producers are resisting the drastically reduced licensing fee they're being offered. Fox's own comedy development is weak, with Boldly Going Nowhere near dead and projects like the derivative Cop House a better fit for Comedy Central. But 20th TV needs a few more years of Earl for additional syndication value. As for NBC, everything is low-rated, even its critical hits like 30 Rock. But I bet if NBC owned the show, it would stay on the air. So maybe the network execs will reconsider if they realize the show may head to a competitor.

I've seen My Name is Earl but it's just not the comedy I would associate as funny, at least coming from Jason Lee.

As far as I know, it doesn't teach scientology at all so I'm okay with the show on that level. I just don't like it, and I think Jason Lee is being wasted on it.

So when Earl crosses something off his list of bad acts is he just clearing out his preclear closet? Maybe we're unwittingly witnessing an overt motivator sequence? Ruh-roh!

Finding out Jason Lee is a scientologist really ruined things for me.

It's not even that I really care if onscreen performers are into some weirdo cult offscreen, but he in particular seemed like a real dude and his snarky asshole persona that I thought I liked is pretty incompatible with getting gobbled up by a cult.

Despite Kevin Smith's many sins, Lee's line from Chasing Amy "Hey! I always notice that bored look in her eyes!" is one for the ages.
