It even has achievements, just enough to make it an XBLA title. If this was an XBLA title I would buy it and jerk off to it

I found this on the forum, a reply from the developer

Quote
Fabian del Priore who worked on the new soundtrack together with Chris Hülsbeck was pleased to read your question. All 6 pieces of music from the original soundtrack (except the highscore-track) are included in the new Giana Sisters DS as remixes and there are another 20 pieces inspired by the original music.

Damn this game looks so good. Even though Great Giana Sisters wasn't one of my childhood C64 games, I was quite familiar with it. The remake looks to be everything that New Super Mario Bros wasn't. I think I may import tomorrow this if what Bob says is true.

Either this is sarcasm or you're not familiar with the history of the series. But yes, the original was pretty much was a slow female Mario ripoff.

:'( Looks like I'll wait a little bit and see if there's word on a local release. If not I'll still probably bite.

 :o

"Due to its extreme similarity with Super Mario Bros., Rainbow Arts was forced to withdraw the game from sale almost as soon as it was released and cancel release of the otherwise completed ZX Spectrum version, under pressure from Nintendo's legal arm. The cover of the C64 version, published in the UK by GO! (a sub-label of US Gold), went so far as to taunt Nintendo's game with the tagline "The brothers are history"."

Press start and choose deactivate mic. The option only shows up on levels with bubblegum in it. When you choose bubblegum it just blows the bubble up automatically.

Doubt it. Platformers that aren't Mario themed don't sell, and games as girly looking as this one sell even worse.

I posted this on gaf and I'm copy pasting it here cause I'm lazy. I found two secret levels.

Level -1
In level 4-3, go right until you get bubble gum. Activate the bubble gum and fly all the way back to the level's start. In the absolute top-left most corner of the level is a hidden block, so float below that and fly up into it. When you activate it you'll unlock level -1.

Level -2
Play level 6-7 until you reach the first flower checkpoint. To the right of it is a bazooka bee. Bounce off it's head directly upward and you'll activate a hidden block opening level -2. -2 is a bit more interesting than -1.

Yep, awesome simple yet fun, cute platformer. Game is way too easy and pretty repetitive though.

Just beat this getting all the red gems on every level.  Been playing it in small bursts for a few weeks now.  Overall thought it was a great little platformer.  Good physics, graphics, level designs if you go for all the red gems, length.

My only complaints are that the first 5 or 6 worlds are a joke in difficulty and thus kind of pointless outside a few levels.  World 7 is a good difficulty and World 8 is a nice challenging platform that gets your hands sweaty; so those worlds were great.  The rest were fun but way too easy.  The other complaint I have is lack of real bosses.  Fighting the same boss with the same pattern every world (an easy pattern) is zzzz.  Some other powerups would've been nice, but I understand they're going for more of a SMB1 game than a SMB3+ game.

Was cool, don't remember NSMB enough to figure out which I liked more.  Why haven't they made another Mario for the DS btw...it's been a while and DS is only Nintendo's best selling system......hmmm.

Shame Nintendo is stupid and litigious and keeping this from the US.  It's a B/B+ game that definitely worth about $30.

Game is now out on iPhone.

Copy/paste from that other forum:
Quote

I thought this was the best place to say instead of making a new thread and I know some people missed the chance to play this because it came out in limited areas a while ago. This game is now out for iPhone/touch also, while that is awesome there are some drawbacks.

It looks like they applied a backbone-quality(tm) filter when they enlarged the sprites so it doesn't have that pixel sharp style to it all.

Also, it's only £2.99
