So, I have a crappy Gateway (which doesn't have a true XP disk) and my boot.ini file has become corrupt. Gateway's solution is just to do a hard drive wipe and start over. Well, that's bullshit since I will lose a lot of data and a chkdsk /r or /p will work if I can get access to that hard drive.
Should I just connect the defunct drive to another computer (as a slave), transfer the data, then do a fresh install? Or is there something easier I am missing that will help me fix the problem?
