Crackdown was a far more accomplished platformer.
Speaking of that, I picked that up for $10 recently and have tried to get into it, but it just isn't clicking for me.  Any tips?

Give it more time.  The game really opens up as you level up and can scale higher/faster.

I beat the first city in Crackdown but then got tired of it.  It just felt like the rest of the game was going to be more of the same.

Am I right or should I give it another chance?

The story progression part is the least interesting bit of the game. You find gangs, shoot leader, and see news from the peacekeepers. Rinse and repeat for every encounter, with the odd strike team gang hit squads thrown in to give you something to demolish. The real fun, in my opinion, comes from platforming and chasing the orbs that will allow you to chase those other orbs. The fact that you can go to any area that your current character level allows you to go was a real draw. I also think it's a genuinely pleasant game to look at.

Its biggest flaw is that you're a super-dude in a world of normals, meaning there are no super-powered, interesting bosses or stronger characters in the game.

will purchase if it isn't as boring as the first one. the best parts of the game where when you got a huge nerdy adrenaline rush while being chased after you killed your target. Have more of those exciting moments, plz. And more Kristen Bell.

I want to say there's a reason for that but then I would ruin the whole game

I know, but it still sucks. You basically go from bully to super-bully, and the last fight is like the first, except for that enemies wear more body armor and have better weapons.

Game Informer Cover

Quote
Well, what do you know. After the cliffhanger ending of the first game, Assassin’s Creed is back for more. “A New Hero for a New Time,” eh? What could that possibly mean? Just judging from the cover art, this isn’t the same Altair that we’re used to. At the very least, he’s picked up some spiffy new threads, right? Nope. In Assassin’s Creed 2, players take on the role of Ezio, a young noble whose family was lost through rival ruling families' betrayals. In addition to the new character, players are going to get to explore a new setting: Renaissance-era Venice. What else is going on? Well, you’re going to have to pick up the May issue of Game Informer if you want the complete story on Ubisoft’s latest. You’ll also get new information on Sony’s MAG, which promises 256-player multiplayer action, as well as an exclusive in-depth look at Nintendo’s upcoming Punch-Out!! update.

Supposed Game Informer info

Quote
*SPOILERS*

Sooo I'm looking at the new Game Informer right now, and it tells a few thing but only has one new image, the one we already have, the 5th one.

- You'll have a ton of new weapons to choose from including an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, 2 different sword types, a spear axe thing, and 2 smaller blades
- You CAN swim
- Da Vincis workshop is in the game
- Locations include Saint Marks Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, and the Rialto bridge.
- The game opens in 1476, Altair is from 1191
- So you do indeed play as a new ancestor of Altair / Desmond
-You will see the countryside of Tuscany
- The "Auditore" family is mentioned
- The main characters name is Ezio Auditore de Firenze
- He is a nobleman of Florence
- Big characters are in the game including Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
- YOU DO INDEED FLY AND THERES A PICTURE OF IT.
and thats just what I got from the pictures. I'll let you know more details as I read more.
- Game will feature a new notoriety system that governs how enemy soldiers and people will treat you.
- You can disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them this time.
- each weapon has a special move.
- 16 unique mission types.
- No more ease dropping or pick pocketing missions.
- If you get beat up to much you will need to see a street side doctor to regain ful strength.
- Hidden objects (like flags in the first one) are there to uncover but this time if you track them down you will get in-game bonuses that make it worth your time.
- Items include, flags, statues, and gold coins and more that isnt mentioned.
- New enemy types with unique attitudes and weaknesses are present in the game. Archers are mentioned, as well as elite enemies, dagger wielders, "Brutish" armored troops with heavy armor and 2 handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you're near by.
- While hiding in a hay bail you can assassinate people this time, but it may expose your position.
- You can still climb towers and ride horses
- The Lorendo de Medici assassination is in the game.
- There is now a night and day sequence in the game.
- 240 people are working on this title.

Take with a grain of salt until the magazine scan is out. Dont want a repeat of the Bioshock 2 situation.

16 Unique mission types still doesn't sound like enough.  That'll get you through like 2 cities and then you're going to be doing the same ones over again.

16 unique side quests are more than enough. Compare it to other games with side quests...

It's sorta nuts to see people saying it's not enough when you do that.

But yeah, kinda sick of you trolling Ubisoft games.

Let me get this straight. I am trolling Ubisoft by posting the cover art for another Ubisoft game? So what you're basically saying is that Ubi is practically self-trolling these days? I can agree with that.

You know, i actually find it funny when people twist people's words into their own advantage, but jesus christ do you suck at it.

Prince of Persia Warrior Within is a disliked game, and the character is a disliked character. The comparison you made is shit, because they barelly have shit all in common, the only thing they have more in common with each other than they have with other characters, is the fact that they are both in Ubisoft games.

See i could troll Killzone 2 before it was out, with cover arts of Killzone 1. Because Killzone 1 was shit. Even though you liked it.

And the self trolling bit, dude, what? It's just getting old Duck. You've been trolling Ubisoft ever since i've seen you post, it just doesn't make any sense anymore. So what, you bought the shitty versions because of your shitty preference in systems, grow up.

Again, it's really not my fault that Ubi published an image of their character in a goofy pose that resembles the cover art for one of their own games. You can't really bitch at me for trolling Ubi when I'm using nothing but their own material. This is some serious cubite behavior, you know.

What's similar?

That in a magazine cover art, he is "facing towards the camera", like the prince, in the game box cover art?

Quote
Oh look...
(Image removed from quote.)

This one doesn't quite work, he's facing away, damn!
(Image removed from quote.)

What about this one?
(Image removed from quote.)

One more!?
(Image removed from quote.)

So what did we learn today duck? That character based action games, tend to have the main protagonist as the center piece of their "official" artwork of the game.

Class dismissed, troll.

Not sure if I learned anything new here, but it's absolutely clear that you are a sensitive little twit who thinks that posting Ubisoft's own cover art is an act of malicious trolling. The most baffling thing is that a comparison this crappy could elicit this type of response, but then that's really nothing new with you. Good job.

Really trying to play the innocent? And trying to play the "It was just a little thing" card?

Dude you've been trolling Ubisoft games for years. And considering how much damage control you run around, i don't understand why you can't relate to me not particularly being ok with you trolling this game, or Ubisoft.

The only guy here acting like a little dip shit is you. So the whole tone from above you are trying to cast is being sorely wasted. You gotta work on that shtick  of yours, it's starting to fade.

I have no problem admitting that I tend to shit on Ubi games, but hey, it's always justified. And it certainly doesn't take any comedic value away from the fact that this fanboy in distress bender of yours was apparently inspired by me posting Ubisoft cover art.

Now on to more important/interesting things... some images, in the shittiest presentation imaginable

I'm digging the new info that came out, especially the glider.  I'm hoping it's pretty much like the Batman Begins deal where you can just activate it as you jump from a high building and glide on down.

The new character design isn't bad outside of the hood.  The hood looks really out of place and I don't see how it even makes sense for that time period anyway.

Quote
- 1476, warring families, corrupted clergy, political intrigue, warring city-states.
- Assassination and executions are common in those days.
- Post plague era, modern science begins, etc., (basically, a resume of what the Renaissance era was like).
- Assassins and Templars continue their struggle.
- Venice and its waterways, Florence and its huge monuments.
- There is an illustration of San Gimignano's towers, and it speaks of the Tuscany country side. Another illustration shows some boats in Venice's canals.
- Saint Mark's Basilica. The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, Rialto Bridge, are shown (screenshots compared to real-life shots)
- Patrice Désilets says Altair was only in the middle of the "timeline", but now you live through the memories of a new ancestor to Desmond.
- Da Vinci is an ally to Ezio's family. He is like Q in James Bond. Machiavelli teaches you "tactics".
- "We know that he (Ezio) does end up alone and on a quest for vengeance". Learns to become an Assassin.
- Ezio can dive into the water in Venice, hide underwater as long as he can hold his breath, etc.
- You can pull guards in the water to assassinate them.
- Taller buildings. You can use a new leap maneuver to climb faster.
- More varied "hiding places"
- Ezio's infamy grows if makes too much commotion, making people more suspicious. If you become notorious, new missions appear (example: assassinate the witnesses, bribe people, get rid of wanted posters), so you can lower your notorious level if you want.
- Ezio can disarm enemies and you their weapons against them.
- Dozens of weapons with their own special moves (pike allows you to knock many enemies off their feet, dagger allows you to do an escape kill of some sort, etc.), can fight without weapons too and do things like throw dirt in an enemy's eyes because sometimes you don't have a weapon (except for the hidden blade and throwing knives), even heabutts! Désilets says that at the end you should become so good with the double hidde blades that you will use them over any weapons. A hammer is shown, a club too, and some blades and an axe.
- Game is made to address concerns people had with AC1, while staying true to its core. Biggest need was "more variety". AC2 no longer uses the AC1 gameplay loop structure (bureau, info, assassination).
- Ezio can use boats to move through the canals (in an example of mission variety, Ezio goes to see an informant but they are attacked and you must defend her as you make your way to a boat, then use it to get her to safety). Sometimes those different mission mission types are mixed together in one mission (example; mission starts as a simple delivery, but ends up as a chase, and finally a kill).
- A picture is shown of different enemy types. One is really big and fully armored. Each enemy type have their own attitudes and weaknesses. Enemies evolve as the game progresses (first encounter in the game will feel different than later ones). Agile dagger wielders can freerun like Ezio (following him more easily). The big dudes are more deadly in close combat. Spear wielders will look for you moreso, like in hiding places. You can kill enemies from the hiding places (picture shows Ezio grabbing a nearby soldier with his hand on his mouth, emerging from a bay hale chariot).
- Templars and Assassins are "underground, behind the events, pulling strings".
- Day and night cycle.
- Different kinds of objects to find but that actually give you something in return.
- Producer is Sebastien Puel

Sounds amazing.

I just read up on this game and am excited. It seems like they understand what went wrong the first time around and may actually live up to some potential.

I also love the setting change. I really loved Florence, and running from guards across the ponte vecchio sounds fuckawesome. I'm not huge on Venice, but it does make for a theoretically fantastic game setting.

It sounds like they are including DaVinci, Medici, and Machiavelli as well, so story might be more fun too.

I can see three ways for the game to fail ~ rushed to make holiday, way too easy, or gets caught up in some DaVinci code garbage for too long.

Puuuummp.
