Rock Band Unplugged creates a full band experience in the palm of your hand by combining traditional beat match gameplay with key elements from both Rock Band and Rock Band 2, such as overdrive and chords. Your hands are the “peripherals” in Rock Band Unplugged, allowing you to take direct control of the lead/bass guitars, drums and vocals. In addition, players can expect a rich Rock Band experience with fully functional modes like World Tour, Band Survival and Warm Up and a robust character creator for full customization.

Rock Band Unplugged will feature over 40 master-recordings including nine exclusive new songs that will debut on the PSP system before being offered as downloadable content for console versions of Rock Band. Plus, Rock Band Unplugged will include the first fully-featured in-game store for downloadable content on the PSP system in the North American and European markets, leveraging the PSP system’s wireless capabilities. The in-game store will be powered by PlayStation®Network, and players will be able to use their existing PlayStation Network account to purchase tracks, similar to the Rock Band console experience. Interesting. They actually did realtime backgrounds in the PSP game (unlike the Wii and PS2 versions of RB where they simply used pre-recorded video).

This looks like more of a sequel to frequency and amplitude...which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Great games.

This might push me over the edge to get a PSP. I see a Rock Band PSP bundle is incoming, but its the psp 3000.

im guessing its the shoulder buttons. amplitude was three face buttons (or three shoulder buttons) and dpad to move tracks.

Actually, it would not shock me if Harmonix managed that. Possibly with a RB1-style "migration" license fee. That'd be... acceptable. Of course, even with a 4GB memory stick, it would probably also necessitate some kind of file management between PC or PS3 rather than keep ALL of the DLC on the memory stick.

...I've just realized this a problem I am happy I don't have to solve. I'm curious how they'll address it, is all.

In other news, I tried to play Guitar Hero (DS) at a Best Buy during my recent vacation to the USA... it is not playable. Squeezing a DS to press buttons while tweaking one's neck to stare at the top screen is not analogous to the feeling of playing a guitar. It is not fun.

Meanwhile, Frequency and stuff was MADE to be played with a controller, so I am soopah hopeful.

you know this game leaked a few days back, right?

I tried it out and it's pretty fun. I'll buy it when it comes out. Weirdest part is that despite being played with the d-pad and buttons, the notes are still very similar to what you would play if it was with that instrument in the full game. The mode where you play all 4 at the same time is actually really hard. And they have the option to unlock all songs at the start without having to insert a code.

umm, this is "out" and it's spectacular. Medium is easy, but hard reminds of trying Guitar Hero 1 for the first time on hard--it's fucking nuts and you don't think you'll ever get it.

It's everything I hoped for, aside from a few things:

1) tracks drop out of the song when you mess up a phrase. So if you screw up a guitar part, you don't "clear" the phase and the drum track might start up, but while you're trying to clear a guitar phase, the drums will drop out as you miss notes. That just screws me up even more. I wish there was an option for a different indicator.

2) No real mode for single instruments. There's a "warm up" mode that scores you, but it's not integrated into the main game. On the other hand, without the actual instruments, it's quite a bit easier to play individual tracks.

3) the track listing seems real "safe." i dunno, it's good, but not great. Not enough exclusive songs.

gonna be flying overseas for about 15 hours today/tomorrow and I'm gonna be playing the hell out of this

have you tried expert? I was a bit upset that they make you do things like hold left and up at the same time instead of just making the notes faster and all that. It gets too confusing at that point.

The mere fact that none of the tracks are muted when they're not being activated makes this not a Amp or Freq game.

anyway, beat it on the plane, it's fun, but there aren't enough songs and I don't feel like waiting for them to leak one or two songs at a time for $1 a piece. I guess I'll check torrent sites in a few months if I decide to play it again.

Yeah, it got a bit old for me too. I still like it, but I can't sit down and play a bunch of songs back to back. Every now and again I'll play it. My problem is that it constantly feels like you are just barely making it to the next track and constantly need to be rushing instead of just enjoying a single one. Frequency and Amplitude had a better flow to them.

i like it a lot, but i tend to play psp games in 15-30 minute bursts, so i don't spend enough time with it in one sitting to get tired of it
