I LOVE the History, New, and Pin feature.

LOVE.

Right now I'm listening to Saturdays = Youth, Abbey Road, Resistance, and Fantasties. I don't know why, but I think it's really cool being able to pin these albums to the Zune main page and just click which album I want to listen to any given time.

Apparently the new Zune allows you do do pins as well. Fuck I need a Zune HD.

That is some slick looking stuff.  I don't do anything outside of finding music I like and hitting "play" (rather, I usually just connect my iphone to my swans m10s and go from there), but I like that interface.  Looks more useful than cover flow in itunes.

The accelerometer is supposed to be very fast (compared to the iPhone). There's a video of it and the dude flips his Zune between Portrait/Landscape and it keeps up nicely.

that's awesome.  I do think the accelerometer in the iphone can be janky (usually when trying to send texts for some reason.)

That's pretty tasty, alright. The lack of Zune Pass over here makes it a non-starter sadly.

It's not difficult, put in your favorite artists and it compiles mixes for you.

It's pretty cool, but basically designed to get you to buy a Zune Pass.

Yeah, that's not really a bad deal at all.

I wish the was a Nano-like Zune that could compete with Apple's offerings, or maybe lower the price on the Zune HD (which is barely cheaper than the Touch).

I remember getting my original Zune and the software pretty much sucked. How far they've come in a short amount of time is pretty awesome.

I don't think that's gonna happen. I have a Zune16 and even I'd have to get an iPod Touch over a Zune HD if I needed a touchscreen toy.

It's a big step up, but still not quite there.  there are a lot of little things wrong and the browser doesn't look as nice as mobile safari.  and I highly doubt the zune app store will get filled out.

Obviously, apps aren't as functional with only wi-fi, but after seeing some of them in action, they are pretty fucking cool.

Eel - as was pointed out in that other thread, it's $15 but Comic Reader Mobi is really worth checking out. There is a demo now which comes with a free comic. I use it every spare second of downtime i have these days. Re-reading all of Planetary right now in anticipation of #27 :hyper

These things are useless to me, as I only use portable media players when I'm on trips or something. I don't need that crap.

Those things might be useful for cellular devices, which I carry with me at all times, but I think are pretty much overrated when it comes to standard Wi-Fi devices. Hence why some of the most popular apps in the iTunes store are distinguished mentally-challenged.

On the contrary, I like both as PMPs, and will probably ask for a Zune HD this holiday season.

It's just that I think the need to criticize the Zune for a lack of apps seems kind of silly considering it's not a mobile phone, like the iPhone (which seems to lend itself more to the app store than the iPod Touch). Really, how many people plan to buy commercial apps for a sole PMP device?

... if we're talking a Zune cell phone, that'd be another matter.

I'm really curious about the portable PGR.  There was one for cellphones a year or so back that wasn't too great.  I wonder if it's a port of that like most of the initial iPhone games.

I want to get the Zune HD because of all the good experience I had with the first gen Zune but because of the touch-screen and capacity I really just want the 120GB. And I don't know why people slam the Zune software, works better on Windows than POS iTunes does, my only problem is that if you put P2P music on there it fills in all the ID tags with NA if they aren't already filled. That shit annoys me.

pgr destroys most psp games visually.

audiosurf is almost a killer app, almost

definitely more fun in portable, 5 minute form than in its pc incarnation

How are you guys getting pictures to appear in the Zune mini player? I only have the mini player up and it's always pitch black behind the album art and text.

A friend of mine at work gave me a 16 GB Zune HD today for free! I had mentioned that I wanted one to him a couple weeks back, so he gave me his that he never uses (prefers the old Zune with the buttons). I don't have a transfer cable for the thing, are the cheap monoprice ones at Amazon ok? I dont see why not, but you never know. Not like I can find an official MS one anyway.

You don't have any other choice anyway.

But if you want official, maybe this? http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=211871839&listingid=98214499&&
