It gave me huge respect for Steve Carell. It showed how easy it is to make that part unfunny.

the office guys seem to have forgotten how to stage a gag, too - when amy poehler fell down the pit it just looked awkward

i'll give it a chance for a couple more episodes

if you go back and watch the very first episode of the office it isn't that funny or well-made, either

she was the reason i kept watching past the first ten minutes, even though her part isn't funny or well-written either

i was reading an article where it seemed the people involved were already doing damage control, saying things like "it gets funnier!" which had a certain air of desperation

i think the theme of this show is "maybe people will think they're watching an hour-long episode of the office"

This was terrible, I stopped watching. I never had that urge with The Office.
I never really liked Amy Poehler and it seems the writing enhances all her annoying qualities.

I'll give it a chance since Amy Poehler is Tina Fey's buddy.

Btw, 30 ROCK was pretty weak this week as well.  There're only a couple of episodes left in this season.  I hope they finish strong.

The mural was pretty funny.

Maybe it'll take some time to get going, the premiere wasn't so awful that I've lost all hope.

Yeah, the second episode wasn't much better. I'll give it one more episode before I skip out on it.

I'm not defending this show as I've never even heard of it, but the first episodes of the American Office were downright atrocious and it's a pretty solid sitcom now.

The problem with the first season of the American Office was that it tried to hard to ape the style and jokes of the British version and it just didn't work. It got good when they finally decided to go in their own direction.

pretty funny reading this thread, especially the comparisons to The Office, which never really achieved the same peaks this show managed to reach after finding its footing.

Are we including The Simpsons on the Tracey Ullman Show?

I have extreme nostalgia glasses with the Simpsons as I watched the series from basically day one.

God, remember how huge early Simpsons was as a marketing phenomenon?  All the Bart catchphrase stuff and street vendors selling bootleg merchandise (including the black Bart stuff).  So weird in retrospect.

I started Season 3 the other night.  The first ep was probably the most I've laughed in 25 mins in a long time.

S2 was great and S3 is off to an even better start!

Yeah, first season's turrible and all you need to know for continuity is that Rashida Jones lives next to a giant hole that they want to turn into a park.

Plus some stuff about past relationships that becomes irrelevant pretty quickly.
