Question for people who own Red Steel
« on: December 07, 2006, 12:33:56 AM »
I started Red Steel recently and I have noticed something with the controls. When I point to the left side of the screen and turn, if I go to far my curser goes to the far right of the screen. Its really anoying and does it with both of my wiimotes. Does Red Steel do this to anything else?

I'll be honest, so far the game kind of sucks. Sword fighting is terrible.

The reason I have it is because i bought my wii off of craigslist and this was part of the deal.

If the pointer goes off the screen, you do the happy circle dance of joy, until the pointer comes back, I have never had it magically warp from one side to the other.

I dig the game, it's got quirks, some funny ass ragdoll stuff (guys getting stuck in walls and crap) parts of it look like a meh cube game others do some nice stuff (explosions some good lighting and smoke)

It's a launch title and has to be treated as such, red steel 2 will be alot better, I cant bitch as the game has such a short dev cycle.

So when you point the wiimote to the left and keep moving it to the left of the screen your cursor doesnt magically warp to the right?

Any reason mine would do that?

Turn down the remote volume, it might do the trick, does for the jumpy cursor.

If I go too far off either side, it just starts spinning...which is my biggest issue with the game.  I've never seen it jump to the opposite side.

For future FPS games, they should use the remote only for aiming and leave all movement controls to the nunchuck.  Maybe the stick moves and turns, and holding the nunchuck Z button switches left/right to strafe. I hope the current FPS control setup isn't the standard for Wii games.

There's an option to use the wiimote without the motion action for Zelda i'd figure, right? I hear the sword swinging is a bit inaccurate.

Naw. I'm fine with it. You simply flick your wrist and he swings his sword. If you target it works even better. What inaccuracies did you hear about?

Although, it is true it's not PERFECT. There's a move you get called Shield Bash. You thrust the nunchuk forward and Link will hit the enemy in the face with his shield, making them inactive for awhile. The thing is, to do a sword spin move,  you shake the nunchuk. Soemtimes when I want to do the shield bash I spin instead. It's really annoying.

Zelda isn't necessarilly harder with the remote though. Once you get used to it, it clicks and you forget you're even using the damn thing. In later sections of the game, you have to snipe enemies from 203802832 miles away and with the wiimote, positioning and aiming is a breeze like a mouse is with an fps. With a normal controller I wonder how annoying it'd be, but it's definitely worth a look.

I can second the call on Trauma Center - it's a remake of the DS version with better controls, and a couple of extra "missions".

Zelda - I wouldn't spend $300 just for it, it's no Ocarina of Time.  However it is still Zelda so that does mean it's 100x better than any of RPG.  However it does feel very similar to Okami  >:(  I'd just pick up the GC version if you can.

Wii is a success without any "must have" launch title - it's amazing ...  ???

Zelda uses the wiimote perfectly. Occasinaly i will get some lag doing the spin attack, but its still better than charging up.

I had absolutely no problem with Zelda's controls after 30 minutes with it. My girlfriend, who's only played 2D Zeldas, picked it up faster.

I have ET, CoD3, R:RR, SMB:BB, and Zelda. I'd say CoD3 is a damn good representation of what it can do. Rayman does the trick too, in more bizarre, less traditional ways. Wii Sports is just amazing, especially bowling.

I own a 360.

It's worth playing, but not worth buying. It would make a decent budget purchase.
