Wow, downloaded the demo for Folklore on my ps3 tonight
« on: April 20, 2009, 02:54:20 AM »
Pretty cool! How was the final game? I'm gonna get this. Does it have trophies? I liked the non-gimmicky use of the sixaxis. Simply flicking the controller to absorb Folks is dope.

It reminds me of Brave Fencer Musashi in a crazy European fantasyland.

Definitely getting this. Story has potential!

What are some other good ps3 exclusive demos? Now that I got my internet running on my ps3 again I'm going on a ps3 demo dling spree.

Gets old really fast.  Like by the second or third world.  Good concept.  Would like a sequel.

If you like the demo I think you'll like the full game.  I know a few people who really enjoyed Folklore.

I didn't like the demo much.  I didn't hate it but it was just ok.  This is why I still have the full game sitting almost unstarted on my shelf.

To elaborate this is how I felt about the demo:

-I like the Metroidvania battle system where you get enemies and use them as attacks.  This means in concept, lots of variety in attacks, spells, other things like the Metroidvania's that let you steal souls.
-I like the graphics and art style

-I really don't like that you are forced to play it with both characters
-I don't like the map movement.  It felt like a bad RE/Onimusha game.
-I don't like how the level in the demo just felt like a bunch of same looking areas with encounters along the way
-I don't like that there's lots of text but no voice.  Feels cheap
-I don't like the cheezy English dub and lack of Japanese voice acting for the Japanese version

I'll probably still play it one day.  But it's sitting with White Knight Story in my pile of JPN PS3 games I bought because they looked cool, heard they were boring or had severe flaws, and lost interest in actually playing them.

I played the demo before and it was enjoyable.  I actually re-downloaded it and the Siren demo a few months ago giving them another shot before buying; though, the reason I still haven't bought Siren is because I feel stupid for not buying it when it was on sale.

How, in what way, are you forced to play as both characters? They have their own story in the demo. You can choose between them. How is that any different from Resident Evil 2?

In regards to the demo I don't understand one of your complaints. I mean, the demo has similar looking areas, but they're obviously the same level. So that complaint really makes little sense, especially given how the demo has plenty of visual variety to begin with.

Swaggaz: I'm importing the European version of Siren. I demand a physical copy.

You play through the same game twice with both characters to get to the end of the game, I think.

No, in the full game you have to play as both characters.  Like you will get stuck as one character until you play the other character up to a certain point.
At least that's what I've heard from those who played the full game.

You're right though, that wasn't a demo complaint.  Full game complaint.

They have their own story :lol

You are forced to play both to get to the final chapter and the complete joke of a final boss.

I had a really hard time getting a handle on the artistic direction of the demo. There was nothing wrong with the imagination or the craftsmanship, it just didn't feel cohesive at all. Felt a bit cluttered, in a Rare sort of way. Gameplay was alright, though.

Yeah, forcing you to play as both characters really killed the game.  Decent concept, though, and lovely art direction.

Wipeout HD and MLB 09 demos have quite a lot of fun.

Killzone 2 is worth downloading just to see what it looks like.

I played Killzone 2's demos months ago, but my problem with it is the aiming. I mean, why does the dot grow bigger? I'd prefer if it was just a dot. I have the same problem with Uncharted. I try out the shotgun and I can't stand it. It's like a huge circle fucking thing, instead of a dot. It makes it hard for me to be precise. This is why I stick with pistol in those type of games.

Fuck.

Tried out Siren: Blood Curse demo. Fucking awesome.

Tried out Pixeljunk Monsters demo. Awesome.

X360 and Wii owned. Do they have Lemmings?! NO.

There is a Valkyria Chronicles demo.  If you make a Japanese account you can try out Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan and RGG3 for a huge cocktease.

So in order to make a jp account I just make my country Japan when making a new account? I'm trying to make sure if it's like making jp accounts on Xbox live.

Anything else of note on the jpn psn, demo wise?

yeah, that's pretty much all you do to sign up for a Japanese or Euro account.

I'm not sure about other demos on the Japanese psn, but I just remembered that there are also the DBZ and Naruto fighting game demos on US PSN.  Naruto is worth checking out if only for how good it looks.

Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! and Ryu ga Gotoku 3 demos are the big ones exclusive to Japan. Mainichi Isshyou is also free and easy trophies if you're into that.

Only the yakuza 3 demo, i'm pretty sure the kenzen demo was taken down.

They took it down, but if you have previously downloaded it, it's still in your history and can be downloaded again.

Just an educated "gun" guess. But on an automatic weapon the first shot is your most accurate shot. Due to recoil the subsequent shots won't be as accurate when on semi-auto and tend to be in a small pattern of fire, hence that small circle. The other shots should land within the pattern circle. As for the shotgun, there are dozens of BB's in the "bullet" so you get a spray pattern however the majority of the BB's strike a small pattern in the middle for the most damage. The circle is likely telling you where you will do the most damage. This is of course assuming that the shells for the shot gun are "shot" and not a slug. A slug is a big bullet and not pellets.

I'm not a gun nut, but I've shot enough mini-14 and FN guns to know how those work. Same with a shot gun. It seems to be realistic to me.
