So now it actually has a chance of being something beyond mediocre. Bethesda is a horrible developer. Hopefully it's turn based.
The first person perspective was just to make the exploration and dialogue more interesting.  I don't really see how anybody can dislike the atmosphere of the third game.

Fallout 3 was a regular RPG in it's gameplay. It never required fast reflexes or bunny hopping and the game did a dice roll every time you fired a shot (so you could miss a headshot from a foot away).  The challenge to the gameplay was more with managing weapon/armor condition, not exhausting all of your stimpacks, and most importantly not running out of ammo which happened to me a lot and was my number one reason for dieing.

Very interesting. Really curious to see what kind of game it turns out to be. Hopefully not just some gimped Live title, like Fable 2's pub games.

Yeah, this is my thought.  Hopefully it is a normal, full retail game.

I just don't get how people get up in arms about the writing in games. It's like arguing about various colors of poop. If you want decent writing, read a book.

Probably because you're incapable of comparing apples with apples. It's cool man, no one's perfect.

I love lockpicking! I can pick Very Hard locks easily now but it would be cool if raising your lockpicking skill added other perks besides being able to pick harder locks. I still hate the hacking minigame though.

Now Oblivion's lockpicking, that was a bitch (and mostly worthless, in regards to picking anything that contained something of worth).

Its mostly lots of ammo caches and there's probably one or two unique weapons (like the Victory Rifle, a supped up Sniper Rifle that knocks down opponents).

The lockpicking wasn't that bad unless it was Hard or Very Hard, but hacking was just straight TERRIBAD 100% of the time. At least you get some lewt for picking locks

I still don't get the hacking minigame even now. Its like, you pick a word and it lets you know if a certain amount of words are in the right position? So you have to select similarly built words and yet its still a crapshoot.

Word guessing was just reloading time & time again.

Try clicking matching brackets on the same line. It would eliminate dud words or refresh your word count.

Oddly, lockpicking was given as a consummate example of in-game minigames, and how they reflect the player's immersion in the world at GDC a couple years back. It was really interesting overall, and funny to see that Thief's lockpicking is still basically the most interactive and immersive model.

I've never played any "hacking" game in any part of any videogame that wasn't garbage. Especially when you have to do it hundreds of times during the course of the game. I was fine with it in that relative sense in Fallout 3. It was fairly simple and painless for me and I could do it relatively quick. I'm fine with that. Much better at least than playing pipe-mania in Bioshock every two feet.

I never really minded the lockpicking or hacking mini-games.  After one playthrough they were kind of tiresome but not seriously annoying.  I did go through one stretch where I just couldn't pick anything other than an easy lock for a shit and almost ran out of bobby pins.  That was pretty frustrating.

The hacking was actually a fun puzzle (unlike bioshock) and the lockpicking was piss-easy.  However, the lockpicking in Oblivion was a moment of anal tearing.  I was so happy when I found the unbreakable lockpick.

Man, I just played through The Pitt for the first time. Awesome, awesome city design they created. The whole post apocalyptic  urban factory setting was done perfectly. Makes me even more interested in what New Vegas will look like.

Also, Stealth Armor + 100 Stealth + Perforator (acquired in The Pitt, its a silenced Assault Rifle with scope) = Holy shat

Before acquiring the Perforator I had to resort to using a gun that would compromise my location to the enemy and surrounding enemies or use the shitty Silenced 10mm. Now I can be real stealthy but the gun still isn't powerful enough to take down really defensive enemies, its really good for headshots + sneak criticals then switching over to a gun that packs a punch (like a shotgun).

I've heard people talk about Zeta not being good too but Anchorage has really garnered lots of hate. I'll probably start playing Zeta in a few and report back on its possible suckiness. They introduce a nice item in Zeta though (that involves repairing equipment) that should come in handy.

Remember, you can only do Broken Steel after finishing the main storyline.

Crap! I'll definitely get Zeta out of the way then and just finish the main storyline (I'm already godly, should be easy).

basically all mothership zeta consists of is a series of rooms, can be completed in a few hours, and two new weapons.

Good Jon, Bethesda. I was playing Mothership Zeta yesterday and ran into a possible game ending bug (the little girl was supposed to be a trigger to unlock a door but she was stock in position near the bridge). Fortunately I'm playing on the PC where I could turn off the clipping and go through the locked door. Hopefully this'll allow me to finish this.

Also, Mothership Zeta had a good amount of funny moments but the setup is a bit tedious. Where The Pitt felt a bit open, Mothership Zeta is the whole "series of tubes" gameplay (just like Anchorage). I would definitely place Zeta above Anchorage though.

Finished Zeta, fortunately the game chugged along fine after that one hangup. The ending was fun but all the pointless tubes and rooms with enemies got really tiring over time. You get some good weapons from it but like Anchorage, playing through it is a chore. Definitely won't be playing that again.

I've got this mod for the PC that fixes the Guass Rifle in VATS. Apparently it only does a fraction of the damage its supposed to do (in VATS). Now I'm really fucking shit up strategically in bullet time.

There's also this other mod that turns off the auto aim and the bullets from most weapons fly true. Without it, a bullets trajectory will tend to bend (and this isn't just inaccuracy, like from a semi / full automatic weapon). Sniping becomes easier.

IIRC, all bobby pins are unbreakable if you quit the lockpick attempt prior to the third "mistake" vibration.

Quote
Three different tweets from three different Bethesda Softworks sources hint at some sort of big Fallout: New Vegas info dropping tomorrow.

From Bethesda's Pete Hines: "if you're into Fallout or want to find out something, anything, on Fallout: New Vegas...well, tomorrow, it begins."

From community manager Nick Breckon: Tomorrow will be a big day for #FalloutNewVegas. Whoo.
