i can't believe they didn't even give any new options for customizing your character's looks

it's exactly the same, same hairstyles and everything

they should change that gaf official topic title to "Obsidoes exactly what Bethesdid, at a worse framerate"

It's the Fallout 3 that Fallout 3 should have been.

I haven't noticed any bad Frame Rate issues on the 360

One thing thats annoying me that seems to be happening more in New Vegas than it did in 3, when enemies get too close VATS becomes a crapshoot. I can't hit my enemy when I'm freakin' phasing into their damn body.

i can see hardcore mode becoming tedious later on

picture still having to cook and drink water all the time around hour 100

As long as you play through the main story with hardcore mode on, you'll get the special ending [or whatever]. You can switch it off after that.

I thought there was no "play after you finish the main story" in this game.

yeah, this just runs crappy no matter what settings, so i might as well stick with ultra

i even tested it on medium settings and was getting huge, random frame drops

they just didn't optimize this worth a fuck, i've been seeing people on other message boards blaming it on the game engine or working with bethesda's tools or nvidia drivers, anything to give these obsidian guys a pass :lol

No.

I've noticed it now too after playing more. It seems to be whenever I have NPC's on screen. And I do have a gtx 460. fml

Hope for a patch soon

Turned off hardcore mode.  Going into the menu and checking the status bars was already annoying the shit out of me, and it'd only been a couple hours.  Shoulda put them on the HUD, I think.  Nice idea, poor execution.

And game already froze up on me after about two hours.  Cool beans, Obsidian.

framerate is all over the place with this game, drops from 60 to 30 for no reason whatsoever at the most random times

i mean, i'll literally just be standing there doing nothing and fraps shows it dropping 20 frames

this is on ultra settings, btw, which my pc chews through on FO3 at a constant 60 even during the heaviest action

Same here, dude.  I have it on ultra as well, and for everyone's frame of reference I'm running it on an Athlon II X4 3.10 ghz, with 4 gigs of ram and a Radeon 5770.  Game looks... well, the engine is dated and the npcs are all fugly, but some of the scenery is awesome.  Like I said, I've been getting a lot of random framerate drops for no apparent reason.

The good news is that it's easily as awesome as Fallout 3 and the most annoying thing I've seen so far is a traveling merchant and his brahmin climb the stairs and get stuck on the second floor of the motel in Novac.  By the way, where do I find no-bark in town?  No freezes or crashes for me so far, knock on wood.

Further good news is that I totally love the vibe early in the game- whoever said Red Dead Fallout hit the nail on the head.  Awesome wandering around helping people out and shit, although I had to leave something undone in Primm.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
After you rescue Deputy Dipshit you're supposed to find a replacement sheriff, I went to the prison and talked to the one dude but how do I get him a pardon?  Maybe I'll just come back when my Science is high enough to reprogram the robot to be the sheriff, that'd be hilarious.

Was exploring a bit off the main road, turned a corner and come across a pack of deathclaws.  :'(

IGN review is up.  8.5.

Not surprising. As good as New Vegas is, and it is REALLY good, it's still a glorified expansion pack with arguably more bugs than the original. It's not going to get 9.5's and 10's.

Got to play this for about an hour last night. Things were going swimmingly until the game froze up (:-\), and I realized I hadn't yet bothered saving. I have to get back into "save after anything/everything happens" mode. Fortunately, I had barely made any real progress yet, outside of looking around the initial area and taking the first quest.

On the plus side, this will let me restart with the Wild Wasteland perk, I wasn't really too sure what it was about when I first started.

Weird. Maybe its my 360 controller which is kind of dying but the game wouldn't run with it properly for me last night on the PC. I couldn't fire properly with the right trigger.

Otherwise it seemed like Fallout 3 to me at first. Which is both a bit disappointing and exciting at the same time for different reasons.
