Are you playing on pc muck, because quicksave is a life saver

Nope, 360 version. I'll possibly grab the PC version down the road after the modding has hit full swing.

Got my first glitch at the very beginning of the game.  I go to add my traits at the SPECIAL machine and it just locks up.  Had to start over twice to get it to work.  :-\

Is it just me or does the map seem kind of small compared to Fallout 3?

And yeah I already had to reload and redo a mission because required enemies didn't spawn right and were floating in the air invincible.

Turned off hardcore mode.  Going into the menu and checking the status bars was already annoying the shit out of me, and it'd only been a couple hours.  Shoulda put them on the HUD, I think.  Nice idea, poor execution.

If you're low enough on water or food to suffer a penalty, a message box will appear to tell you so and there's an indicator in the bottom corner just above the health bar that shows what you're low on.

Is it just me or does the map seem kind of small compared to Fallout 3?

Uhh...it's just you, I think. The map is huge.

Still disappointed that like Fallout 3 you see motorcycles around to show everyone else is using them for transportation and yet you don't get vehicles.  I wonder if F3 mods will work in new vegas with a few lines tweaked?

Honestly Fallout 3 fans are probably creaming themselves, but I'm very meh on the game so far a couple hours in.  I hate Fallout 3, Oblivion, all Bethesda games.  I love Fallout 1/2, Black Isle, all Obsidian games.  I was hoping this would feel nothing like Fallout 3 outside the graphics and combat.  I thought this would finally be their chance to make that Van Buren Fallout 3 they always wanted.  But instead it's Bethesda's Fallout 3 with better writing.  Game feels very, very similar.  1,000s of useless item junk everywhere.

Besides the bugs it doesn't really feel like an Obsidian game at all.  I haven't seen much witty writing, the reputation system seems far more shallow than in Fallout 1/2/Alpha Protocol and the pacing instead of being pretty tight is blaaaaaaaaah like F3.  So far my favorite thing has been the graphic novel that came with the LE ^^;

Since I don't have Vanquish and it's not showing up for a while still I'll keep going through this but the game is definitely not what I was expecting from Obsidian does Fallout.

To me the perfect modern Fallout game would be ME2 with Fallout atmosphere/story.  Point n' click map with lots of cool cities/towns/settlements with npcs/subquests all within an area you can move around quickly; sidequest that take 5-15 mins and are fun and have different ways to play out.  Main quests 20-30 mins.  Cool visuals, party members, upgrades.  Combat like ME, TPS but pause at anytime and issue commands.  etc...

Would be much closer to Fallout 1/2 than Bethesda's take on Fallout.

Some of the mods made Fallout 3 enjoyable for me, when the Vanilla game wasn't.  So yeah, I'm looking forward to them making NV much better.

and no, not the silly character models shit.  The gameplay mods :P

Wish I would've known that.  I'm not sure I even played long enough to illicit a penalty.

I may start over.  What does the meter need to read for the message to appear?

It's not like every character in the game is some comedian, but I've seen plenty of great writing scattered around from characters to quests to logs on computers. It's there, believe me.

To me, the main quest feels like it's moving a long a lot faster, and more along an easy to follow line, than in Fallout 3.

Well I haven't been doing the main story, so that's probably why :P  I'm just trying to fill out the map by wandering around everywhere so I can later quick travel when need be (because I hate walking and want to get the worst part of the game over with asap).

I didn't read up much on the game.  I just figured they would identify with the fanbase who loved their Fallout 1/2 games and would make a game to that audience.

I wouldnt do that its not like FO3 wheres theres some bullshit corridors that block you off easily from everything (IM LOOKING AT YOU SEWERS AND MALL RUBBLE), you can pretty much just ease right on in. the strip has some walls around it but you'd miss a awesome part of the game.

Not sure why you would have thought that...

Anyway so far I'm having fun but perhaps not enjoying it as much as I would have hoped. But its still early. I haven't hit any of this "fabulous" writing Obsidian has done but so far its still early. Actually so far I think the scripting on some missions has been worse than I remember but again early.

It is time for a new engine though. This one is just junk. Has nothing to do with the graphics part of it. It's just a junk engine all around in all aspects. Especially control. If Bethesda doesn't use whatever id is doing they are nuts.

I just played 4-5 hours straight.  Haven't done that with a game since Xenoblade.  Now the walls are all moving and my legs have no strength >_<

Upon taking your advice Rumbler I decided to just play the main story and stop by things on the way instead of non-stop exploring the wasteland.  When I got to Primm the game started growing on me.  Primm was a neat little city and the combat was pretty fun.  My character build is pretty weak as I went with speech/locks/science with some points into guns so the bosses were tough with my 9mm submachine gun, single shot shotgun, and dynamite spam.  But it was fun.  Once I got the 10mm guns the game started getting a lot more fun since I could take out most dudes in 2 shots to the head.

Kept playing until I'm just about at Novac (stopped at the ranger station below it).  I don't love the game, but it is enjoyable and keeps you playing.  I feel it's basically Fallout 3 but better.  The Mojave Desert is a better setting than DC.  It doesn't have ugly green shit filter, there don't seem to be a ton of pointless dungeons so far, and there's a bit more to the area story than Fallout 3 had with all the factions.  The little stories at each place seem more interesting too, but that's kind of expected with Obsidian writing vs. Bethesda writing.

Will keep at it.

oh and I've had a couple crashes pre-patch.  Got me OCD saving every 5 mins.  At 50 saves already in 6 hours, lol.  Seems more stable post-patch though.

I went from 3 saves last night to 90. plus i'm stuck with the "won't autosave" bug so I HAVE to save manually and pray it doesn't crash.

I loved this game up until this point, but it's okay, the story is getting kinda boring now anyways so

Someone earlier asked if we (Obsidian/Bethesda) knew about the PC bugs that people are currently experiencing. I can't comment on every bug, but I can comment on the higher profile ones:

* Auto/quicksaving bug - I can honestly say that we never saw that bug or heard it reported prior to release. I played the game primarily (and extensively) on the Xbox 360 and PC (I also played on the PS3, but not as much) and never saw anything like that. We are looking into it right now because obviously it's (very) bad.

* NVIDIA + water = lol - This is a known issue that was introduced with NVIDIA's drivers as of (I think) two revs ago. It can affect Fallout 3 as well. We are still discussing it with NVIDIA.

* NPC faces = slow framerate - I hadn't heard of this prior to launch, but I'm going to talk to Frank (our lead programmer) about it.

* CTD Apocalypse - CTDs are often very hard to diagnose, so honestly maybe we have seen "your" issue before, maybe we haven't. These are the hardest to figure out. My apologies. We have to take them on a case by case basis.

* Video Card N + Sound Card Y + This Driver = Death/Bad Framerate - Chances are high that we didn't know that a certain combination of hardware/drivers/some other software would result in something bad happening because, quite frankly, PC compatibility testing is logistically really, really, really hard. That's not an excuse, but I hope it serves as an explanation. Anything that seems to affect a significant number of users and is systemic is something we can hopefully look into.

Please don't take my lack of commentary on bugs to mean that I don't care about them. I just want to avoid hazarding guesses and doing remote amateur troubleshooting. Bethesda's support/testing teams are coordinating known bugs and new reported bugs through to us. I know it's frustrating. I hate seeing people experiencing bugs. We are addressing them as we learn more information about them.

i've run into ac ouple of uncompletable quests, I wish they would do something that let you drop quests.

-James tells you to talk to Ralph

There's enough bugs and glitches in the game without making up news ones. :lol

Couple of questions:

1.  On the E-DE quest

it says (optional) take E-DE to gibson scrapyard.  I repaired it and had it follow me there and I talk to the old lady and there aren't any new options??

2.  On the fort below Novac:

I'm supposed to investigate it for the ranger in Novac.  I got there, see Legionaires kill them, see the dead NCR and blow myself up on a mine.  I reload and go there again and now there's no Legionaires and only the NCR bodies and I report to the ranger and he says "thanks for the info, but we need to find out who did this!" and I keep going back to the fort but the legionaires never spawn again??  wtfff.  I even tried reloading my save before the first time I tried it and now they never spawn.  Only that one time and I blew myself up.  Is this a glitch?  Or is there a way to get proof it was them?

its worth it for the ending of the quest IF you choose the right option
