Yeah, it's a trade-off. You can get healing over time with no ill-effects, or you can get healing RIGHT NOW but there's a possibility of getting sick from it.

Thanks.  Yeah I dropped the iron sights and found a mouse fix mod so I'm trying to go back to KB+M now and the aiming is sooooooo much better.  With some mouse speed tweaks it's almost like an FPS, just point and shoot.  This will help a lot.

Found the right group of mods and the game is soooo much fun now.  Just been exploring around doing tons of quests at all the places.  About to hit lvl.20 woot.  Steam says around 22 hours now.

The reputation system is so bullshit.  I was liked by NCR and then I accidently kill 3 of their guys and suddenly I'm a "Sneering Punk" and they're hunting me down.  So I spend 5 hours doing what feels like EVERY NCR MISSION IN THE GAME and helping them be awesome everywhere across the map and all it does is bring me up to "questionable" or something.  When are they going to forgive me for killing a couple of dudes. 

Anyhow I have BADASS weaponry now and armor and toooons of money so it's all fun   I found some 370DPS mini-gun which works great at destroying everything but chews through that 5mm ammo.  I've been doing the party member missions and getting their 2nd perks too.  And since I've maxed guns, lockpick, repair, science, speech at this point I've gone solely on energy weapons and have them up to 60 now.  Plasma Defender at 60-70DPS is my pistol of choice for things that don't need mini-gunning.  Plus my party with good weapons/armor helps me take out stuff faster



Mods I'm using:
SPEED GLASSES - so useful because when you're in a building or combat you switch them for PER+2 normal glasses and move at normal speed.  Then when running around exploring you throw them on and run like superman.
UNLIMITED PARTY MEMBERS - like a real rpg
MAX PEOPLE 12 - updates the npc max from default 6 to 12 sine you have a bigger party
BETTER HEADSHOTS - headshots do more damage both ways.  Helps you take out stuff faster
BETTER TAG SKILLS - gives 2x bonus for each point put into a tagged skill.  Makes sense and choosing tag skills actually feels important now. 
PIPBOY LIGHT - fixes the "2 feet in front of you and then dark" shitty default flashlight into more of a real flashight
NEW VEGAS IU - makes dialogue font smaller so you can fit more choices in
SORTERS - sorts things by groups.  Like all magazines start with MAG: so you can find them easy
REALISTIC REPAIR - repair items from junk around the wasteland.  Actually a point to picking up junk

Good times.  Went from being lukewarm about the game to being one of the most fun games this year.

My personal play style is that on a first playthrough I almost never play with any mods unless its something to improve performance or to fix something obviously completely broken. But on a later playthrough I'll do whatever I want. But I get why other people would.

There were only 20 levels in F3?  Lame.  I guess by the time I played it the DLC was out that hit 30.

I'm probably going to use the mod that removes the level cap when I get to 30.  There's no way I'll be near finished when I hit lvl.30 at this rate so might as well keep getting xp and leveling.  Not sure if it will cause problems for future DLC that up the level cap.

Normally I'm like Stoney and don't use mods or changes for first play.  But with Bethesda games, I don't like them in the first place, so if the mods can make a non-enjoyable experience enjoyable then I'm all for it.  Almost all the mods I use just take out the waste of time stuff like plain walking or having to drop off members to pick up new ones and then go back and get them again when you want them.  You still get the same content but it's much more efficient.  Instead of taking 80 hours to see all the locations and do all the quests, you can do them in 30.  That's 50 hours that could've been spent elsewhere saved instead of just holding W or the analogue up for mins at a time.  Yes it's slightly less immersive because it's not like you're actually walking for miles on end, but I'll take the hours over the realism.  I'm not playing hardcore mode either.  I'm just in it for the stories and exploration.

But now I'm coming upon others and no matter how I position myself and use vats it says 0% for every part of their body. It won't let me use it with my guns. I just went through this and every time I shot at them the "invisibility" disappeared. When I reloaded, they went invisible again. but I have ED E with me so they just attacked him so it was easy for me. I could still hit them in VATS while invisble so maybe its a bug on your end. Service Rifle

Some of you guys are really trying to make this game harder than it is. 

I'm not overly going to argue since its pretty clear how you feel about the game but the game is simply confusing and buggy in many spots. So its always hard to tell if something is by design or if its just fucked up. The overall game may end up being quite enjoyable for me. I can't say either way yet, but I can say without a doubt its fucked up in many places and is poorly designed in others. I haven't even mentioned most of the weird things or confusing things that have happened. Otherwise I'd be posting all the time.

And then you freaked out, thinking your game was broke and that you'd have to restart it to get it working again. You've just gotta adapt, man. If the game throws you a glitch once and then goes back to normal after that, you shrug off the first time and then gun them down with the iron sights until they appear.

I did the quest earlier in the game at Novac [or wherever] where the Nightkin is killing brahmins. He's invisible, but when you shoot him he becomes visible again, so I already had that in my mind the next time I faced them [and other invisible enemies].

That's what you're supposed to do. Hitting them takes them out of their invisibility, leaving them open for a round of VATS.

Just pirated this game to give it a test run. Wow. So good. I really wish there was a faster way of travel that WASN'T warping around the map. Like a motorcycle or car or something. Walking around everywhere sucks.

26 hours uh, this game is really really big.  Like definitely moreso than Fallout 3 vanilla for sure.  It seems like there's far more factions and camps/towns/cities and each one has anywhere from 2-6 lengthy quests to them.  Even with speed shoes I'm guessing it'll take me at least 50 hours if I want to checkout all the locations in the game and do all the questlines I find.

Been doing stuff on the strip tonight.  Have one more hotel worth of quest lines to finish up, Gomorrah, and then I'll move on in the story.  But I have like 8,000 optional things to do in the meantime.  Just started checking out

still need to check out Red Rock and the Boomers.  Spent like 2 hours tonight (and a dozen or two reloads) trying to do the White Glove Society's quest lines perfectly because of sooo many glitches :X  But I did it and got a ton of xp and am now idolized at that hotel yaaay.   

Combat wise I bought the Riot shotgun from gun runs as my standard walk around gun of choice.  Does like 200DPS per shot up close.  Combined with +10 DT perk I can one hit head explode any non-boss.  Haven't seen that much combat though.  I think that's one thing that's really neat about this game:  95% of the game time is just talking to people.  If you want you almost never need to fight anything.  Makes it more like an adventure game.

I do have to say though, the faction system while deceptively simple sure changes the way I play the game.

Since the majority of the locations that have stuff like terminals, locked doors, magazines, good loot are controlled by one of the many factions.  Whenever I go to a place and everything is in red I don't do anything bad because I don't want to screw up my rep with that faction.  In F3 I'd just grab everything and hack every terminal and lockpick every door.  But in NV I'm leaving a portion of the secrets in the dark.  Being more of a "good citizen" and walking through places not touching/taking anything and just talking to people instead.  Definitely a different experience.

Despite my complaints I am enjoying it.  I "get" the ammo situation now, after having run out of .357 ammo (I am exclusively using the cowboy repeater and a handgun early in the game to better suit John W. Hardin, hired gunman with a heart of gold) and breaking down other ammo to replenish.  I like that the companions don't die now, saves me the trouble of constantly babysitting fucking knuckleheads who run straight towards a giant radscorpion with a machete, or using setessential all the time.  I still think a penalty for super stimpaks is distinguished mentally-challenged, especially considering how scarce they are and how many situations they throw you into which almost require their use at some point (dozens of bark radscorpions, then half a dozen giant radscorpions, all inside a rocky pit that's not easy to run in, and you're gonna penalize me for using a couple of super stimpaks?  fuuuuuuuuuuuck yooooooouuuuu obsidian).  And, so far, I still think it's missing the soul and the sense of urgent desperation that FO3 had, where everything has been fucked beyond belief but you know they're gonna be fucked x1000 if you don't help.

That's weak. I got accepted in the first town, then some guy saw me stealing his shit and took it all back.

If no one is looking then it's free. Otherwise you're broke, you don't level up and you miss some cool stuff.

Also there's some awesome spots to be a dick in this game.

On the way to Primm where the guy and his girl got into a fight over the star bottlecaps or whatever, I let him tell his sob story and then set him free, only to VATS him in the back of the head and steal his gear.

And the guy running out of the Legion town crying about winning the lottery. I listened to him intently then shot him in the face to steal his lottery ticket.

No, they most definitely do. I've had to reload more than once because Rex is a dumb dog and doesn't know that it's not a good idea to run headlong into a pack of fire geckos. I found a mod that makes them essential character [and only capable of being knocked unconscious], so no problems anymore.

Nope.  found the investigator, met with the contact, convinced mortimeir to let me help them, stole the chef's recipe, killed the chef and hid his body, I made the fake fake meat, called the waiter in, hid, saved Ted, hid while Mortomeir was making his speech, then confronted him with ted, beat him down, and then the society made me an honorary member and idolized me, also let the rancher know the truth but convinced him it was just mortimier and to not attack the hotel, and convinced the guy outside who wanted the rancher in the hotel dead that violence was not the way.

first impressions:

-got into the game, move mouse 1 millimeter, cursor flies across the screen.  needed to edit a file to fix mouse acceleration.
-game crashes.
-spend 10 minutes trying to make a character that isn't hideously ugly.  10 minutes wasted on impossible task.
-walk around.  poor performance for how game looks.  read about a fix that increases performance by putting a dx9 file into the folder.
-game freezes.

Did you win too much money in one of the casinos or steal and/or kill anybody?

Nope...didn't gamble or kill anyone.  Seems to be some kind of fucked up bug.  I just started from an earlier save - some stuff I think I missed out on that made it ok...just hope to not run into the bug again.
