I played the Tools of Destruction demo and it's the same damn thing. Even the animations are pretty much the same.

I doubt they'll ever top 1-3, but is the final game better than the stale demo? Or is the demo pretty representative?

Played TOD for about 2 hours then quit. I felt like I was just running down a trench hitting things. A really good-looking trench, but still.

Yep, ToD is pretty much exactly the same as the other games. But I still loved it.

I'm still waiting on the GH release.  No way in hell am I'm paying 60 bucks for a 2 1/2 year old game.

I picked it up for $20 at Blockbuster last week. The stores around me have manager specials or something going on right now.

I enjoyed the game a lot, but it's definitely more of the same, with few excursions into new territory. Obviously you won't get a good feel for the more interesting weapons, but it's using a very familiar formula with prettier graphics and larger worlds. The somewhat ironic thing here is that despite simply being more of the same, it being that makes it unique these days. It doesn't hurt it that it's also very pretty.

That said, the new one will probably have to have co-op for me to pick up.

I mean, I probably wouldn't care if Ratchet games were all the same if they were all Going Commando quality.

It's not quite Going Commando quality, but it's close. Much better (and less dreary) than Up Your Arsenal, for sure.

Eh, you can find it real cheap (for example $20 BIN) if you keep an eye on auction sites.

Don't look to Insomniac for fresh ideas. The only thing they do is come up with 'wacky' guns, which every kid can do. Go play SMG.

When they acquire creative and talented people to lead their games.

Insomniac is pretty much the biggest developer in the industry that is made of just "working man" people.

TOD was an OK play for me since I barely played any of the PS2 games.

The problem with R&C is that it tries to be both a platformer and a shooter yet it does neither well.  The AI is too dumb for it to be a good shooter and the platforming is way too easy to offer any challenge for the typical platforming fan.

They have some wicked awesome character designers on staff, and the gameplay is always (well, mostly) damned tight. What they lack is an expandable formula, and a willingness to turn it up to 11. Ratchet TOD was much too safe.

I really don't mind dumb A.I. in a game about cartoony aliens and monsters swarming you, I just don't think they have taken that formula far enough. The platforming, on the other hand, is just not very good.

It would be a great idea if Naughty Dog and Insomniac got together to make a platformer.  Naughty Dog has always had a better handle on platforming elements while Insomniac has always had better artistic designs.

For a second there I thought you were going to say "while Insomniac has always had a better handle on shooting" to which I would reply "NO SHOOTING DAMNIT"

And there are rumors of a Sly 4.  I'm hoping that ends up real.

I loved the "go anywhere" stages in one of the PS2 games. At this point they all seem to run together. I had a blast just digging for the gems. It was either GC or UYA.

I picked up Quest for Booty this weekend and really enjoyed it. It was short but the pirates are awesome. I'm hoping they have more of them in a Crack in Time. Day 1 for me. The formula is the same but it hasn't gotten stale for me yet.

I have all the console Ratchets and I thought QFB was unbearably shitty. It sucked out the last cool parts of ratchet, having tons of weapons and spaming bolts for cool upgrades.

Sly still stands out as one of the most satisfying platformers around. Unsurprisingly, Infamous actually looks like a better combat platformer than Ratchet. I'm so happy that Sucker Punch seems to have found a much more interesting middle ground between the cartoony and the realistic.

Speaking of which...

That did suck. I thought I was going to hate it for that reason but to be honest it didn't bother me much. Now if it was a full on disc based release I would be pissed...

They need to bring back the ship missions from Up Your Arsenal. Those are as close to Star Fox as we're going to get.

I didn't find them nearly as fun. To be honest I had to go back and look to see that ToD did indeed have them  :lol Seriously all the R & C games DO run together.

I never cared much for the space shooting stuff, but I'd like to see something of the Giant Clank sort in this one. Not necessarily Giant Clank, but something a little out there, and fun.
