Gay marriage, your thoughts?
« on: April 21, 2009, 02:43:25 PM »
I don't understand what the fuss is all about. Gays (Which apparently people forget, includes Men and Women) want the same rights as Straight people.

What's the problem? If they marry, are they going to make any of us less happy? I don't get it. The discussion isn't even marriage through the church, we are talking about civil rights, what the fuck do you care, if some dude or some chick can sign that paper with another one from the same sex, and walk around with a wedding ring?

The only people i see that have a legitimate right to not want marriage to happen, are religious people that don't want Gay marriage in their church.

Gays and lesbians should be allowed to get married. I don't see how it will ruin straight people's marriages seeing how they are already really good at doing that on their own.

Let them do what they want. Then let them raise a child that would have been lost otherwise. Everyone wins.

1. Kids will be taught that men can marry men, and women can marry women

2. Churches will be forced to marry gay couples

3. If you give same sex couples the right to marry, what's to stop people from wanting to marry their dog, or a child, or multiple children and multiple dogs etc. Marriage should have a clear definition or it will be lessened

Those are like the top three religious arguments against it right? smh @ them all

I think its great Americans are able to choose one way or another.

We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised, and that's how I think it should be -- between a man and a woman.

Lol, doubt it.

Pretty much impossible if you ask me, because they can't be forced anyway. It's not a civil right...

3. If you give same sex couples the right to marry, what's to stop people from wanting to marry their dog, or a child, or multiple children and multiple dogs etc. Marriage should have a clear definition or it will be lessened

That's easy enough, define marriage as between two consenting adults and call it good.

Agreed. I haven't heard a single logical argument against gay marriage. Honestly if someone told me they opposed it strictly on religious terms, I could disagree and move on. People who make up shit to serve their purposes - ie the 3 arguments I posted - get no dap from me

I support it.  But I think that it will have to fight for every step it takes against people who say "GOD HATES THOSE KIND THOUGH" without realizing that the god that they believe in loves all, regardless.  Some christians lose sight of that.  World would be a better place if they just remembered.

:rofl

on topic, I don't care if gay people want to marry.  I fully support that.  It's strange to see something so inert get so maligned by others.   As if straight people are the only ones capable of marriage...with the 50% divorce rate and all.  and working at a law firm that handles divorce cases makes me question whether anyone should get married.

If the word "marriage" is distinctly religious and sacred, as those on the right say, then it shouldn't be on the law books to begin with. Make all legally recognized relationships into civil unions, gay and straight, and leave marriages at church.

I think this is what Dem-voting Christians would support, me and my fiance are of that mindset. Or you could just forget that sacred thing, keep things simple and let gay people be married.

once it's legal, i wonder how gay voting patterns will change.

i don't think the government should have anything to do with marriage, but if they do, gays should be able to marry.

I say, just legalize it country-wide already...

Not only would it benefit gay people and put them on equal footing with straights, the religious right would be so massively butthurt, and nothing is more entertaining to me than seeing that happen.

I think marriage is between a man and a woman. That said, I don't think there's any non-biblically based reason to deny the right to gay people. As long as they are taxed the exact same way.

I think what irritates me most about the whole issue is that it (marriage between the same sex) has to be explicitly legalized at all.  It should not ever have been against the law for two people to join in a legal union of their choosing.

I live in a state (Kentucky) where just the idea of two men trying to adopt children was front page news forever....and their breakup became front page.

The very concept of passing a law that 'defines' what marriage is, or is not, is a fucking joke.  People who are so obsessed with what other people are doing with their lives really need to re-evaluate their own.

You say that here but in your heart you know you want your dick covered in light brown natural anal lubricant while the other artificial lubricant you used runs down your balls and dribbles onto the bed you sleep on as you get ready for a red, white, and Mexican bean burrito ending.

Religious right won't let gays get married, then they slam them for being promiscuous. Hmm.

Personally I couldn't be more for gay marriage without actually marrying a dude. Yay gay marriage. Can't think of an earthly reason to oppose it, apart from maybe fat brides with beards which presents some serious aesthetic challenges.
