That Mille jam has some interesting production going on. Some of the synths sound like they're played back via fading fucked up analog tapes or something.

It's very good. Her rudimentary piano playing and the found-sounds that serve as her metronome give it a demo-like aesthetic that reminds me a lot of Springsteen's "Nebraska" at times, and in the same way that it does on that record, that aesthetic really intensifies the vocals and lyrics. It demands attentive listening, and I think it's a bit challenging in that regard, but will undoubtedly be very rewarding.

Yea, the album is great. Very stripped down feel compared to the more orchestrated Jon Brion production of the past. That makes the vocals sound even more strained and emotional, giving them quite the demo feel indeed.

I love the percussion throughout the album.

Been listening to NPR a lot recently, especially when the Jazz blocks are on. Was listening to Jazz on WGBH with Eric Jackson who introduced me to Gregory Porter...

...has a Curt Elling thing about him but the jazz arrangement shares a lot more of the track
