have Islands done anything since Arm's Way? i was a bit disappointed by how pedestrian the arrangements were on that one after the tropical splendor of Return to the Sea.

Turn on the Bright Lights was fantastic and Antics was pretty decent, but I didn't care much for the last two Interpol albums. Love Banks' voice and this seems considerably better than his last solo effort.

Two other albums, both very different from Return to the Sea and Arm's Way.

Vapours:

A Sleep & A Forgetting

Vapours is fucking great. Much more like the Unicorn stuff than Islands, very fun and not at all sweeping and generically robust like Arm's Way. A Sleep and a Forgetting is sparse with singles but a very enjoyable listen, and very personal in relation to Thorburn. It's subtle but a very good listen.

So I got tickets to the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas because I really wanted to see Of Monsters and Men and it was the only show they're doing in the LA/OC area on this tour. I'm pretty stoked since I haven't been to an all day music festival in like 6 years even though I go to shows fairly regularly.

The lineup is:

JACK WHITE
FUN
M83
NEON TREES
PASSION PIT
GROUPLOVE
OF MONSTERS AND MEN
ALEX CLARE
IMAGINE DRAGONS

Now I know about a quarter of these bands very well and am a fan (The Killers, Of Monsters and Men, M83) and I've heard songs here and there of most of the other ones (Jack White, Fun, Passion Pit, Grouplove) and there's a few I just don't know at all (Neon Trees, Alex Clare, Imagine Dragons).

I kind of need a primer to check out all these bands besides the 3 I know, over the next 2-3 weeks before the show so I'm familiar with the songs. Any recommendations of the best album to start with some of these groups? I started listening to the latest Grouplove album and it's ok and I like a few tracks but a lot of it seems kind of too mainstream pop boring for my style.

They play a ton of dance remixes of these guys on BPM. M83 has a massive Eric Prydz remix that's doing the rounds, for instance... Imagine Dragons big hit is "It's Time", and Neon Trees does a house song with Kaskade that's how I know him. That looks like a pretty good lineup of music.

My Head is an Animal is good but I think Gossamer has more range and continues to be awesome the whole way through despite the risk in that. I need to sit down and figure out my top 5 this year- there are a lot of albums I really liked.

The Idler Wheel is my number one. I'd probably round out the top five with Spiritualized, Frank Ocean, How to Dress Well, and maybe Ty Segall or Animal Collective.

I actually had it written down in a document on my old work terminal, but I forgot to send to to myself when I resigned.
