catching up with some hip hop releases

It's kinda fitting that the first thing you hear on the album is a De La Soul is Dead sample (Pass the Plugs). Brooklynati features a similar faux radio station undercurrent, three dudes who can rap, and some fun songs/lines. There's lots of potential, and there certainly are many strong songs but the album is kinda held back by some horrible choruses, meh guest appearances, and production that kinda blends together at times. But if anything those things hold it from being great, so we're left with a good album instead - not a bad outcome. These guys are witty and have good flows, and overall the production is good (I really like She's Gone AKA Without You). It's like if Little Brother (who's first album also does the faux radio station thingie) had three nice rappers instead of one (sorry Big Pooh) but worse production

On first listen I thought "wow, well that's what an Immortal Technique x Atmosphere album would sound like." This dude's enunciation is very similar to Tech's, and the sad stories remind me of Atmosphere - so if you don't even like the slightest hint of emo rap you might want to stay away. The album style is like a punk rap type hybrid I guess, but not in a bad way; production is full of hard drums and guitars. It takes a dip in the second half of the album but overall it's pretty good. Best hip hop album I've heard this year
and also...we need more rap albums with like 10-12 songs on them. Both these albums are packed with songs, which can lead to multiple tracks kinda repeating themselves or losing quality towards the end.
