hopefully they release another album sooner rather than later. I remember one of the band members saying they had some material left from Third, as well as that they were ready to head back into the studio

I just saw your review of Black Clouds.

So it's still in the vein of Systematic Chaos? I was hoping they'd tone down the death-metalish vocals of Constant Motion, Dark Eternal Night and bits of ITPOE2, and Petrucci would ease off on the silly lyrics.

If they've moved back towards Train of Thought or Octavarium that'd be cool.

I mean it's not like the new album is radically different. They are still following the same road their past few albums have been going down. It's just that the music is so much better here than it was then. IMO their last great album was Train of Thought. Octavarium is mostly garbage and Systematic Chaos is good in parts but overall fairly average.

The last two songs on the album, The Best of Times, and The Count of Tuscany are very Rush-like. Especially the former. It's probably the most Prog-rock song they've done in a very very long time. I can barely even consider any part of it "metal" in any way.

To be cliche I'd rank DT albums as followed:

1.) Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
2.) Train of Thought
3.) Images and Words
4.) Black Clouds, Silver Linings
5.) Metropolis 2
6.) A Change of Seasons
7.) Falling into Infinity
8.) Systematic Chaos
10.) Awake
11.) Octavarium

Just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from as a DT fan.

I don't know, to be honest I just started seriously listening to DT with Systematic Chaos. Before that I just knew a couple of random songs from different albums. But I really, really like Systematic Chaos. The album is a complete rollercoaster-ride. It feels like as if every song has a connection with each other and it's just a badass album period (The Dark Eternal Night, Ministry of Lost Souls and both ITPoE songs).

The whole 2nd side of Hounds of Love is excellent. I believe it's alternately called "The Ninth Wave," and focuses on the theme of drowning. Not a bad song in the whole thing.
