Not a big fan of The Wall, but Dark Side of the Moon is great.

Himuro, check out Queen: Live at Wembley Stadium. It's pretty much the band playing their greatest hits with infectious energy.

Wrapping this up right now:

What a strange album. It's kind of awesome though. I have a feeling it'll get better with repeat listens. I'm going to continue digging through her studio stuff.

Himu I'd recommend some classic rock but my tastes are really weird, here are some of my favorite albums though (I have a similar love for Dark Side and Bowie)

- Do not skip Led Zeppelin III, seriously my favorite out of the first four, screw your two album limit
- Get Tumbleweed Connection and Goodbye Yellowbrick Road from Elton John

I'd post more but I seem to have lost my Zune and that had my old library on it. Balls.

My early gut feeling on the new Pearl Jam album: their best album since Vitalogy. Five-star, thumbs up.  :-*

Alright, confession time: I haven't listened to Pearl Jam since I was about 10 or 11 years old. I'll have to go through their discography. Now is probably a good time since I've been doing a bit of a 90s alt-rock refresher lately; today I've listened to enough of The Smashing Pumpkins to make Diablo's vagina wet. Anyway, are there any big stinkers I should avoid?

himu, you might like a group called Television.  They only had one good album, but it's pretty damn good.  It might be that shorter version of London Calling you're looking for.  It's called Marquee Moon.  Avoid the other album at all costs...

What the hell?  Adventure isn't bad at all.

Megadeth - Rust in Peace
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

Fucking.

Amazing.

Can someone explain how seeding works at what.cd? Seriously. I've dled tons of stuff and I want to seed but it doesn't seed a lick. I just joined the other day and I'm worried about my ratio.

I can dl anything without worrying about ratio for the first two weeks right?

There's 5 seeds for Live at Wembley 86, but I wasn't sure if that was the same thing that willco suggested.

It's pretty slow starting out now that the site is so huge, so it just take some time. I checked and you are connectible, so it's not like peers can't download from you or something. Just be sure to seed everything you snatch instead of, like, only half.

As far as ratio goes, you don't have to worry at all about ratio watch until you download over 4.9GB. Past that, the required ratio varies with how much you've downloaded. All the details are here: http://what.cd/rules.php?p=ratio

edit: And yes, that's the same album

Seeding is almost impossible. But I used the Beatles Remasters in FLAC to get my ratio up so fucking high that I don't have to worry about it for a longggggg time.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

If you like this, check out The Decemberists. I wasn't hip to them until recently, and I'm sure there a lot more knowledgeable fans on their discography that could give you a more specific recommendation.

Go on Pirate Bay or one of the torrent tracks to get Live at Wembley. Or - fuck! - buy it (like I did).

It's easily one of the best live albums of all-time. My greatest regret in life is not being able to see Freddie Mercury perform live. Rarely can you actually hear a performer having fun on a live album. And I don't mean laughing or making jokes, but you can just tell he's enjoying every minute of it when he's up there.

I like The Decemberists but I don't get this comparison. Then again, I haven't heard their last album if that's what you're referring to in specific.

You have to seed literally everything you've downloaded. Even when I was doing that when I first got on there I don't think I was getting more than 40-50 MB upload a day from the 80 or so albums I was seeding 24/7, and I'm sure it's only worse now that the amount of users has tripled. Just keep on downloading (and seeding everything) and don't worry about your ratio until you start getting close to 5GB. There's a grace period for a reason.

And all the freeleech staff picks will definitely help. Get the FLAC, V0, 320 -- everything if you can afford the bandwidth and HDD space.

It's not nearly as good as Marquee Moon, true, but it's still got some pretty damn good tracks on it.  I recommend giving it another shot, maybe this time with lowered expectations.

I disagree. I think the 70's are so great because of the fact everything was so dark. It was a very cynical decade, coming off the 60's, art wise. Compared to the happy go lucky 80's and the angsty 90's, and the innovative yet vapid 60's.

I actually like some disco because I like to see where the inspiration for hip hop and electronic music came from. I think the anti-disco movement is more of an anti-homosexual movement more than anything else. Kinda like how everyone seems to think electronic is for gays.

Uh, yeah. But I find the 70's to be far more cynical. 70's is full of movies and music that are like "fuck you" to about every single movement. The Revolution will not be Televised. :o :bow And beyond music, the 70's was home of imaginative and pessimistic movies like Stepford Wives, Apocalypse Now, Clockwork Orange. The 60's, historically, is a fucked up decade, but the 70's resulted in a far more pessimistic attitude because the 60's were so fucked up.

At least that's my take.

A lot of the artists and bands that emerged in the 80s formed in the 70s, so it's not that unbelievable. The sound you typically assign to the 80s has its roots in the late 70s.

Ziggy Stardust is a better album than Hunky Dory, and I'll never say otherwise. I can listen to the whole album from start to finish, but Hunky Dory has some crap on it. Arguably, it has some of the best stuff of Bowie's career on it, as well.
