That compelled me to get the album. Listening now. I actually tried to get into them with Yoshimi and didn't really care for it, I'm digging this sound though.

I'd upload some songs from the new Built to Spill album to YouTube and post them here, but I'm too drunk to figure out why shitty Windows Movie Maker won't import my mp3s. Luckily someone else did it for me:

High quality

High quality

It's a pretty nice medium between Perfect From Now On and Keep It Like a Secret. I think it takes a big fat poop on their last 2 albums.

I've given the Flaming Lips album five tries and nothing clicks for me.  Yoshimi/Soft Bulletin this ain't.  Some people like that fact, I on the other hand prefer those.  By a lot.
I thought you said you were liking it on your second listen? Anyway, it's clearly not in the same vein as their last few releases, but after At War with the Mystics I don't think that's a bad thing. They're pretty good at recognizing when they need to move on. And whoever mentioned the Christmas on Mars soundtrack is totally on point; that album really helps to bridge the gap.

I started to like a few standout tracks, but as an album as a whole it's entirely boring and messy. Aquarius Sabotage, Ego's Last Stand, and Watching The Planets were the only ones I thought to myself "wow these are awesome."  I'm okay with the praise its getting though because I can see why people like it, it's just not my type of music.  I enjoy melody, especially if its uplifting, and Yoshimi was almost entirely that mixed in with some great harmony as well.

WTF, Lush are in Rock Band 2? :O
Do want.
You better be buying the PS3 version unless you have a US 360. RB2 is region locked. For some reason Beatles: RB is not. WTF?  ???

I can't think of many rock albums more...rock-able than this. Nearly every riff is head bang worthy

Can't stop pulling this out randomly

My holy rap trinity: Illmatic, Resurrection, Liquid Swords. At this point in his career imo, GZA didn't waste lines/lyrics, something that can't be said of many rappers; that's Rakim/Kane/KRS level. It has some of the most descriptive social commentary and glimpses into street life, and he crafted one of the best mafioso rap tracks (Killah Hills 10304) while he was at it. Oh, and RZA's production is amazing

Pretty awesome!  Seems like wayne coyne is losing his voice or something, he keeps grabbing his chest (or maybe that's just a habit he has when performing.)

also, I'm pretty sure the dad in Fallout 3 is based on him...that was the first thing I thought when I saw him: "awesome, my dad is wayne coyne!" :lol

In other Flaming Lips news, they've already recorded a follow-up, sort of.

The Flaming Lips have already recorded a follow-up to “Embryonic.” The band will release a track-by-track interpretation of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” in the near future, which it recorded with Stardeath and the White Dwarfs, a band that features Coyne’s nephew Dennis.

Henry Rollins and Peaches make guest appearances on the album, Coyne told the crowd during a pre-concert question-and-answer session. A Flaming Lips spokesman says the album will likely be an iTunes-only release, at least initially.

And continuing the streak of craziness, he also had some very kind things to say about being on WBR:

Quote
“Embryonic” was the last album the Flaming Lips had due to Warner Bros., which the band has been working with since the early ‘90s. Now in their 26th year, Coyne says the band isn’t looking to go it alone, and likely won’t be following the path of a Radiohead or a Nine Inch Nails. While the structure of the deal may change, the Flaming Lips, Coyne says, have already decided to stick with Warner Bros.

“We don’t really want money that we haven’t earned,” Coyne said. “We’re lucky that we’re able to earn lots of money. A lot of bands and artists aren’t as lucky as we are. But we would never at this point to just be businessmen and say, ‘We want this much money or else.’ We want to earn it. Bands and entertainers make stupid money as it is.

“It was never the big corporate label trying to change the weirdos from Oklahoma,” he continues. “They made it possible we could be who we are. I will always owe them. That’s the secret no one really ever cares about. We owe Warner Bros. for our whole way of being.”

I'm assuming the bolded part only applies to other successful major label acts.

WHHAAAAAT, wow!  that's awesome.  I could live without hearing DSOTM again, but it'll always be one of my favorites. I'm super excited to see what this is all about.  Embryonic already makes me wanna find a nickel bag and enjoy a stoned night just listening to it (something I haven't done in years.)

yeah.  people will take this the wrong way, but then again, he's always been kinda outspoken and controversial...talked shit about Arcade Fire, had controversy with Beck when they toured, and some other stuff.

The Seattle homecoming was the final show of the tour. They played a ton of Diary and LP2 along with Guitar and Videogames from How it Feels. The band wrote one new song ("10") during rehearsals, and they played it every night of the tour, so there is a chance of more down the road...

it's just a really well put together pop album.

also, sylvia off of miike snow is a BEHEMOTH. i love it.

i've been listening to phaseone's free album. it's got great remixes of love lockdown, videotape, archangel, and this animal collective song. probably the best electronica album i've heard this year.

I've never exactly been a fan of BEP, so I was unaware that they were partially formed from another group. Let me just say that this album blew me away, and that means a lot seeing as this came at the end of a week in which I was working my way through a bunch of my favorite 90s alt hip-hop classics (Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, Midnight Marauders, Melodica, Stakes is High, et al.). It's really depressing hearing Boom Boom Pow after listening to this

Not bad for a band that is largely a knockoff of The Smashing Pumpkins :o

I was going to post some tracks from this (Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II), but the distinguished effete fellows at WMG seem to be pulling all the songs from this release off of YouTube, which incidentally might be partially why the only Aphex Twin I've ever been exposed to is his beat-oriented stuff. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to electronic music, but I absolutely love this. What are some other albums or artists that are similar? And is there anything else in Aphex Twin's discography that comes close in terms of style? The only other ambient albums I have in my library are Eno's Discreet Music and his 1-4 series

My favorite song on the album.

It's a good song, but the music isn't the only important thing here. The whole thing of being pleasantly and brutally mindfucked to good techno, floaty-hopping around in a crowd of equally fucked up and floaty, hopping people, god damn I miss that sometimes.

How are they not awesome?

Sounds like something from the 80s. But then I guess that goes for most popular stuff these days.

You know, I think I probably still have the gatefold LP back at my parent's house.  :hyper Which is halfway across the globe.  :gloomy

Gonna go see these guys spin on Friday (along with a host of other acts like Aeroplane, Shinichi Osawa [of Lumines fame], James Zabiela...)

Finally found it online. Really liked a lot of it on first listen, and I'll give it the famous bedtime spin in a few minutes :bow

Its really, really good. I tend to skip the last three tracks and one or so in the rest of the album but the standout tracks that I do listen too... so fucking good.

After listening to the bulk of the albums I dled recently in the past month. It's time to start my 70's rock binge.

I'm starting on Rolling Stones and fucking Zep. :rock

My binge last month was the precursor. This shall be the real fucking deal. :rock

I'm obsessed with this song. Gives me an odd nostalgic feel for past rainy days
