It's really grown on me.

edit: stupid embedding disabled by request

I don't even know if that's the right version of the song anyway. I don't have sound on this machine at work. Anyway, What Else Is There, Royksopp, original version. Song O The Moment.

I like the Fall Be Kind EP a lot, but the flute in Graze seriously kills the song for me. Like, what the fuck is that doing there. I Think I Can and What Would I Want? Sky are both excellent though, and the rest is pretty solid.

edit: Not sure how I'd rank it among their other releases, I need a few more listens for it to digest
I changed my mind on this. The 2 songs I listed are excellent, but everything else is forgettable. The first track would be good if not for the last 2 minutes with that embarrassingly gaudy pan flute bit (Pitchfork described it as a "radical hobbit dance jam" or some stupid shit). So yeah, as far as their EPs go, Water Curses takes a big fat poo on this.

I wonder if AC will ever manage a record that comes close to Person Pitch. Probably not.

I like Graze and What Would I Want? Sky, the others seem like Merriweather rejects.  Yeah Water Curses is much better.  But I don't listen to Animal Collective for their EPs, as they're, for the most part, no where near the quality of their LPs.

And I rank Merriweather above Person Pitch, to be honest.  It has more that I like to listen to, even though Person Pitch is probably a better overall album experience.

Was looking into Darkwave music... which led to some weird goth music, then ran into a more subtle less OH JESUS CHRIST I HATE YOU LAWD version

One of the former female vocals in Chandeen is now in this crazy German band (In Strict Confidence). Very dark electronic music...

A whole lotta' German nihilistic feeling going on

I didn't even make that connection, now I dig it even more. I loved walking into the club for the first time, the club track was definitely awesome.

Here it is: (Club Asylum)

In Strict Confidence sounds pretty good, Chandeen would have been better with no vocals.

The vocals in Chandeen can be a little cutsie but I tend to really like female vocals in everything.

Imani Coppola, The Black and White Album. I think I'm love with this woman. I have a thing for people who are freakishly talented but too weird to ever make it really big. Although she did have that one hit in 1997 that you've all heard.

Wow, similar beats and synths too (to the song Emergency)

amazing atmosphere in that game and the club quest with the "twin" sisters is probably the best quest in any wrpg ever (if only for the dialogue...)  Definitely installing that game and attempting to play it again on my next windows PC.  I've only made it as far as the next hub city after the first one.   It's the combat that gets me...it's so bad :lol

If anyone's using Amazon's MP3 store, they have a free US$3 promotion for a limited time -- and the credit is for a limited time as well. But if you pick up one of their 2.99 albums, it's a steal:

I shall begin this twenty fourth day of November of the year two thousand and nine by listening to what I would like to dub as the SSX3 Suite.

In other words,

Royksopp "Poor Leno"
Alpinestars "Snow Patrol (Part 1)"
Fischerspooner "Emerge (Junkie XL Remix)"

Searching for more melancholy music, read about "Trembling Blue Star"...

Fuck me this is some near pinnacle melancholy right here. Not too gloomy, not too upbeat.. just perfect. Also has that sort of country sound I've been looking for. I abhor the sound of a good amount of folksie indie music but I love this.

autechre + neu = love

I didn't know anyone else here listened to Autechre. I don't even know where I found my first couple songs, but there's not much of them on eMusic.com, except a track from "an Homage to Neu" which is OK.

Have you ever listened to Khate? She does some bleak, frightening soundscapes. She has some free stuff under the "audio" page at Khate.org

The NARAS must only consider something "new" when they first see the ability to make money off of it.  Silversun Pickups are also on there for Best New Artist and "Carnavas", which I wouldn't consider to be an especially obscure release by any means, came out in mid-2006.

Why are we even discussing the Grammys? They're meaningless.

However, Fountains of Wayne being nominated for Best New Artist nearly ten years after forming was the best.

The fact that Flo Rida, Relapse, and UMC were even nominated is embarrassing. I liked The Ecstatic more, but I hope Q-tip gets a nod just because he deserves it.

Apparently our very own mod gets a nomination under "Best Americana Album", whatever the hell that means. And naturally, the picks for dance music suck ass this year. :piss Black Eyed Peas :piss2

Also Pat Metheny on Kenny G overdubbing his music on Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World"  (an excerpt from a larger rant)

Quote
But when Kenny G decided that it was appropriate for him to defile the music of the man who is probably the greatest jazz musician that has ever lived by spewing his lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, fucked up playing all over one of the great Louis's tracks (even one of his lesser ones), he did something that I would not have imagined possible. He, in one move, through his unbelievably pretentious and calloused musical decision to embark on this most cynical of musical paths, shit all over the graves of all the musicians past and present who have risked their lives by going out there on the road for years and years developing their own music inspired by the standards of grace that Louis Armstrong brought to every single note he played over an amazing lifetime as a musician. By disrespecting Louis, his legacy and by default, everyone who has ever tried to do something positive with improvised music and what it can be, Kenny G has created a new low point in modern culture - something that we all should be totally embarrassed about - and afraid of. We ignore this, "let it slide", at our own peril.
