I remember when MTV decided to air the series again, because everyone remembered it as being cool. It was just... barren. Nothing but empty city streets and speedlines, like some kind of bad dream.

All this old anime shit gets regularly rehashed on variety shows over here. Panels of pseudo-celebs sit around and ooh and aah over old clips that are supposed to be awesome but jesus wept, they look atrocious now. Say what you want about the content - the newer stuff in HD done mostly in Korea blows it away, visually.

About 3 months ago. I got the DVD boxset for $20 at Best Buy and I burned through the entire 51 episode series over a few weeks. It was awesome.

I think I've got my favorite moment narrowed down to either the man who hates cars whipping the Mach-5 with a bullwhip, or Speed killing a shark with a knife.

That episode is so awesome. Especially the parts where the guy whips the car and where he runs out on the race track on his horse and makes all the cars wreck.
