What if they actually gave him a raise? From what I understand, Willco does not appear too interested in keeping the job, even if there is a raise. It makes demands of him thathe is simply not happy with, and from his complaints, I doubt money would heal all wounds.

I just got up. Sorry for the delay guys, but I've been working on forming my escape plan with the very, very little free time I've had.

I have not put in my two weeks - yet.

On June 5th, I'm leaving the country for a week to embark on a cruise to the Caribbean with my brother (who will be turning 21-years-old on the boat). This was already in the cards and I e-mailed my time off request weeks ago.

This weekend however, I reached out to a family friend that works for Discovery Communications and he has agreed to put me in contact with acquaintances in production. He is going to give me a foot in the door with other folks - on the basis that I go get "learned up" on Final Cut Pro (he happens to be a instructor at one of the programs I was looking to attend to) and slog through an internship with Discovery, National Geographic or one of their independent contractors (both organizations acquire rights from other companies for documentaries, footage, etc.).

I've been squirreling away a little money, so I have enough money to buy a - yuck! - MacBook, partially pay college credits and survive off an internship. I set up appointments on my two days off with campus counselors and getting all my ducks in a row.

I will be putting my two weeks in a week before my vacation (giving a full two weeks), so that gives me a projected date of May 22nd of formally resigning. That way I don't have to work my full two weeks and the way pay works, I would get a paycheck after I return from the Caribbean.

I still think you should try and milk them for some extra money. Threaten to quit, then tell them that you'll stay on if they bump you down to an hourly keyholder. Take the opportunity to explain about the extra money you'd be making at that rate with the criminal amount of hours they have you working... not that they don't already know that.

For reals? Put in the time for the next two weeks. If you're looking to ever get into development, those hours will not look that bad after your first crunch. But unlike retail, you won't be surrounded by idiot customers and the number of idiot, slacker co-workers drops WAY off.

I went to two campuses today, trying to research costs, where I need to go for credits, etc. I think I will have a final solution on that by mid-Month. I'd also like to speak to some more local professionals on what skills and education they're looking for before making my dive. Regardless, Memorial Day will be my last day at work.
