So, I didnt see an offseason thread and just seen this on espn, so figured I'd make one. I know we have alot of fans here on EB.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3886703

Kiffin calls out Meyer on what he thinks is against recruiting rules (its not) at a signing day breakfast celebration and instead of getting Meyer into trouble, has to apologize instead, lol.

This just gives Urban reason to run the score up on Tennessee this year.

Yawn Tennessee, wake me when they get a decent QB.  They already know what's coming  this year.  They're getting a beating worse than Kentucky.   :smug

Last year's predictions by me that we were gonna beat Florida and Tennesse are pretty comical in retrospect. But I do believe our showing this year will be better.

There's nowhere for Kentucky to go but up at this point.  I think you guys will have a better year this year too.  Just do me a favor and humiliate Georgia. :D

I'd rather they played UCLA. In fact, I'd rather top tier schools not play pop warner schools at all, even though a lot of those are just pay the school to play, which is why so many of the smalls schools accept, knowing they will likely be embarassed.

I'm a little behind, but what were the conditions?  The douches in charge are more concerned with making money during home games than anything, so if it was a home/away, then it makes sense in their fucked up world.

I love my school, I love my football team, and I'm trying to love the coaching staff, but the Board and the AD are all idiots that none of us like.

Okay, here's an article from Tuesday's Birmingham News that sheds more light on the situation (and rightfully tears into Jay Jacobs, our AD):
http://blog.al.com/kevin-scarbinsky/2009/04/auburn_has_no_excuse_for_passi.html

Quote
What's the difference right now between Alabama and Auburn football? Do the math. The answer is 38,669.
That's how many more people showed up Saturday for the A-Day Game in Bryant-Denny Stadium than for the A-Day Game in Jordan-Hare.

In short, a record crowd for an Auburn spring game was dwarfed by the second-largest crowd for an Alabama spring game.

Paul Bryant, leaning against that great goalpost in the sky, just looked over at Ralph Jordan and growled, ''Don't your people take their football seriously down there?"

But the real dividing line between the Tide and Tigers isn't what their fans did last weekend. It's what their administrations did when both were presented with the opportunity to act like a major player on the national scene.

Alabama said yes. Twice.

Auburn said thanks but no thanks.

Auburn AD Jay Jacobs offered plenty of reasons why he turned down the chance to open the 2010 season against UCLA in what Atlanta Sports Council President Gary Stokan said would've been the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff in the Georgia Dome.

But Auburn has no excuse.

• A schedule that's already finished is no excuse.

It's admirable that Jacobs wants to change Auburn's rep for breaking contracts - remember downsizing Tommy Tuberville's debut from Florida State to Appalachian State? - but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.

Virginia Tech had 12 games lined up for 2009, but when the chance to play Alabama in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff came up, Tech rearranged its schedule. It pushed back a non-conference date with Cincinnati to another season and helped Cincinnati find a replacement for this year.

• A schedule that already includes one non-conference game against a BCS opponent is no excuse.

Yes, Auburn already has a 2010 home game lined up with Clemson.

Good for Auburn, but why stop there? Look at Virginia Tech's first four games this season: Alabama, Marshall, Nebraska and Miami.

• Losing the big payday of an eighth home game is no excuse.

Alabama played seven home games in 2008 and will again in 2009. How has that affected the bottom line?

The first thing I noticed Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium was the scoreboard in the south end zone. It was missing. In its place hung the business end of a crane, a tangible sign that another expansion is under way.

By the way, a school official said Alabama earned about $2 million for playing Clemson last year. That's not as much as Alabama or Auburn earns for a home game, but the intangible benefits - see recruiting - are priceless.

Jacobs' explanations for turning down the UCLA game don't carry the same weight as the arguments in favor of playing the Bruins next season rather than waiting until 2012 or 2013, as the AD suggested.

It would give the Auburn players extra motivation throughout the offseason. Ask the Alabama players what that edge did for them last year.

It would put Auburn in the spotlight, and let's face it. Auburn has to go the extra mile to earn national respect. It's not many miles to Atlanta, which offered a national stage in a home-away-from-home setting.

It would be one more counter to the flawed but persistent argument that a weak non-conference schedule kept the undefeated 2004 Auburn team out of the BCS championship game.

Preseason No. 1 and No. 2 teams that never lost kept Auburn out of that game, but the Tigers have done a good job since that snub of lining up better non-conference foes.

Why not try to build a reputation as a team unafraid to play anyone anywhere at any time?

Instead, Auburn will open the 2010 season against Arkansas State. No one outside the states of Alabama and Arkansas will notice.

It's not quite as bad as I thought, but Auburn should still be chastised for their lame excuse of not wanting to break a contract with tiny Arkansas State in order to play a neutral "kick-off classic" against UCLA.  On the positive side, they at least are still talking about playing in a few years, so there's that.

Auburn is set to play Chattanooga, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State and Clemson — all at Jordan-Hare Stadium — to fulfill the non-conference portion of its 2010 schedule.

pheeniks had expressed interest in wanting Texas before the official thread was made so I'd told him he could have them. Between then and the creation of the official thread I was banned, so when vumpler told me on CoD4 that the official thread was up, I had my younger brother post for Florida. Everyone else was taking dominant teams for the most part so I went ahead and did it too. I guess that post calling dibs on Florida got me permabanned for ban evading? I don't know. UK versus Alabama: 2-34-1 all time
UK versus Auburn  : 5-24-1 all time (lost last 15)
UK versus Florida  : 1-28 last 29 (lost last 22)
UK versus Georgia : 11-49-2 all time
UK versus LSU      :16-38-1 all time
UK versus South Carolina: 0-9 in Spurrier era
UK versus Tennessee: 4-41 in the last 45 (lost last 25)
UK football: 39-223-5   0.149 winning percentage with a combined 71 game losing streak versus 4 teams there.

Yup, looks like you guys deserve that BCS welfare check.  :lol

Oh and Big East in the BCS since the new conference was made has beat the ACC, Big 12, and *gasp* this mighty SEC conference champions in BCS games.

SEC BCS appearances: game 3 years running. Record: 3-0

Big East BCS appearances: 2 years, missed last year(Both LOLhio State)  Record: 0-2.

Although, to be fair, you guys have won 1 BCS title in the last ten years.

Um, what?

Cincinnati lost to Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl last year.
Before that 2007 West Virginia beat the Big 12 champ Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, 2006 Louisville beat the ACC champ Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl, and 2005 West Virginia beat SEC champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. That's 3 BCS game wins in 4 years against 3 of the major 5 other conferences. The only ones that can be played with the Rose Bowl tie in to the PAC 10 and Big 10.

Last 3 years.

I was referring to the BCS Title game if you couldn't tell. Oh wait, you couldn't could you? That's Big Ten education for you.  :lol :lol

Pretty easy to win one big game when you've played in a shit conference all season.

 :lol

Yeah, great reasoning there. If thats the case, maybe the Sun Belt champion should be winning BCS games then.

Yeah it really is a good reasoning.  Same reason USC is strong every year.  They steamroll through their conf kind of like the only two decent teams the Big Yeast has ever had.

Winning a lot is much harder when you play in a conference that actually deserves its automatic BCS bowl invitation.

UK versus Alabama: 2-34-1 all time
UK versus Auburn  : 5-24-1 all time (lost last 15)
UK versus Florida  : 1-28 last 29 (lost last 22)
UK versus Georgia : 11-49-2 all time
UK versus LSU      :16-38-1 all time
UK versus South Carolina: 0-9 in Spurrier era
UK versus Tennessee: 4-41 in the last 45 (lost last 25)

Huh? Big Ten education? I never went to a Big Ten school. And you went on a complete tangent from what I was referring to, so yeah, I couldn't really tell what the fuck you were talking about.

BCS appearances not equal to BCS title game. I was responding to someone saying the BEAST didn't deserve a BCS tie in, which is ridiculous. It's not even the weakest BCS conference the past several years.

Yup thats it. The "tough" SEC wears the SEC teams down so much that its so tough to wins games - over a month later when the bowl game actually begins. Oh, and I guess they're wore down too from the previous year when they play uninspired non conference opponents before the conference season even starts and the bottom half of their conference struggles with complete crap non conference opponents.
