You can get Prototype for cheap right now, it's called Hulk UD. Even the missions look similar. Infamous seems to be more of a platformer with a super-human lead and cool enemy characters. Seems to have a hell of a lot more personality, if that's your thing. If you just want to blow things up, Prototype is probably alright.

Both games will have demos IIRC, so try them.  I'm sure you will get most of what you wanted out of Prototype from playing the demo.

I'm going to be buying both but the more I watch about Prototype the less interested I am.  Did anyone else see that "mission variety" trailer? it's like, wow, missions ranging from escort missions to stealth missions!  On the other hand watching more videos on Infamous still has me mixed on it.  Combat I'm still not thrilled about, but the platforming that they've showed more of lately looks ace.

what special moves do you get in infamous? all i ever seen em do is hold out his hand and throw electricity bombs (which looks dumb)

There is a dedicated "powers" trailer available, shows some of the stuff. The physical combat looks as good as, or better, than the super-powered stuff I've seen so far, and sliding on electrical wires to get around the city is just plain cool. Platforming in general looks damned good, but I guess that shouldn't be surprising.

And Green Man, "play it straight?"  Everything I said is true. Hell, one of the rescue-protect missions they showed off is a carbon copy of one of the first missions in Hulk UD, and the you vs the world tone is certainly straight up Hulk. Nothing wrong with that if you're just looking for insane destruction, though.

That would be nice, but I doubt anyone would pay me for just telling it like it is. Prototype is, to use a popular term, the spiritual successor to Hulk UD, with all the pluses and minuses that comes with that.

If you trust GAFers, this dude posted some impressions:

So we should just skip Uncharted 2 and get Uncharted then?

Would have to go with Infamous at this point. In movie terms, Infamous 1 looks like Spiderman 1, Prototype looks like Ghost Rider.

At this point.

Help what? Hulk UD is a favorite of mine and I was looking forward to Prototype for that reason. But some of these new videos suggest that the game is almost too much of a repeat to justify the price of entry. Looks like a fun sandbox of destruction, whether that's worth the price is a matter of taste. Red Faction Guerrilla has sort of trumped it there.

Looks like a fun stop-and-pop setpiece shooter, whether that's worth the price is a matter of taste.

Prototype looks like a mess. The gameplay looks like a disaster. What the hell is happening all of the time?
Looks like it'll get boring really fast.
But I still want to play it, kinda...

Infamous looks like a better attempt at making a videogame. It looks very polished and the gameplay looks very fun.
The soundtrack is amazing too.

I'm definitely buying Infamous.

I love a good story as much as the next guy but gameplay should always come first.
Err, I think that is one of the reasons why Infamous will actually offer superior gameplay.  Sucker Punch has seemingly designed an open world game with focused gameplay.  Prototype just seems aimless in comparison.

i like infamous' subtle morality system

Quote from: Edge
Periodically the game throws a decision at you - actually freezing the action to reiterate the choice in ruminative voice-over, just in case you missed it the first time. It would be hard to, given that these aren't particularly murky dilemmas - a man refuses to open a door: gently break the news of his wife's death or turn him into a smoking cinder. If only David Starkey were here to point us in the right direction. Neither result commutes any gameplay advantage, however, meaning the choice between good and evil is an affectation rather than a quandary troubled by genuine temptation.

The rest of the preview is pretty positive, save for the sewer trips.

I don't know the difference, I don't even know what either of the 2 games are about, but go with the one with the Amon Tobin soundtrack...
