Oh, nice.  I will grab it when I get home.  I didn't even know the album was titled The Bachelor.  I thought it was going to be titled Battle.

Has anyone here listened yet?

Apparently he decided to split Battle into two albums.  The second half should be out next year.

I've listened to it, albeit half-assedly.  Seems to be better than Magic Position from what I paid attention to.

I'd just say listen to them in order.  The third one isn't as great as the first two, but it's still got some great songs.

I'm not so impressed with this one.  I think it might be even more disappointing than The Magic Position.  Definitely some great songs on it, and I'm going to hold off on disparaging remarks (since TMP took a while to grow on me), but the first listen didn't knock my socks off.

fuck.  :-\ i really didn't like the magic position.

i'm gonna listen to this tonight and post my thoughts.

It didn't strike me as similar in style to The Magic Position--it's just similarly uneven.

I do have to admit that I like Vulture a lot.  It's probably the first Alec Empire-related song I've liked since I was like 17.

NSFW cheesy Patrick Wolf video

no sound here but wow at that video :drool :-*

btw is he gay? or bi or something? or just weird?

I think he's on the gayer side of bi.  According to his latest Pitchfork interview he's dating a dude.

I just don't get how a dude who clearly knows something about aesthetics consistently releases such cheesy videos.  I know he doesn't have a ton of money, but the only one he's put out that doesn't really embarrass is The Magic Position.  Why doesn't The Libertine get an awesome video?

i have honestly never seen any of his videos prior to this one. i don't watch tv and have never bothered to check if he's made any videos online.

and if you're seriously wondering about the "why" behind his artistic/aesthetic decisions: just look at bowie. i mean, wolf strikes me as the kind of artist who's mostly just nuts and unpredictable, does whatever he feels like, for better or for worse really. i don't think he even cares much about the "cheese" in the videos.

I've only ever seen his videos on youtube.  I'm just surprised more effort didn't go into his first couple of singles, which could have likely been (at least) club hits if they had videos that didn't look like they were shot off of my digital point-and-shoot.

I also think he does care, or at the very least that the lack of quality videos is not a sign that he doesn't care.  Keep in mind that he does all sorts of promo photos--something he doesn't have to do--and that these are also of varying and questionable quality.  In some pictures he looks gorgeous, and in some he looks really not gorgeous at all.  You could probably make some sort of metaphor about his now-mixed musical output there, too.  Also keep in mind that he's very forward facing with his fanbase, doing frequent letters and such.  I'd think that sort of behavior would indicate that he'd want to put forward a good personal appearance in things like videos.

hmm. maybe. it looks like i just don't know all that much about him and his character outside of the music itself. i've seen some of the promo pics and, well, maybe he just digs that kind of trashy/cheesy look. i don't know. either way, i'm reeeeeeally curious about the new album now and i can't wait to get home and start listening :hyper

There were definitely a few tracks I really liked.  I'll give it another listen tomorrow.

I don't really follow musicians much these days either.  The past several years, in regards to all forms of media, I've tried to maintain an anti-hype policy.  Hype leads to nothing good.  I just read the Patrick Wolf interviews to know if I have a chance of letting him fuck me in the butt.

I'm just ging to go ahead and blame Alec Empire for ruining the electronic songs and the shitty mix.

After a few listens, I'm thinking about on par with TMP.
