The Zune takes care of this for me.

Zune's stat tracking is pretty awful.  A decent chunk of the songs I play are incorrectly recorded in Zune Social; either the band name is completely wrong, the album is incorrectly identified, or the song isn't logged at all.  I'm baffled as to how it's even possible to screw this stuff up.

Radiohead's my number two, which is surprising, since I didn't listen to Radiohead as much when I used last.fm last as I do now.

Of course, my number one is Death Cab.

PS: what I hate is when my friends stay the night and they don't disable scrobbling. Dragonforce is in my top two most played songs because some bumfuck decided to put it on repeat while we were sleeping. AARGH.

Really? I never had that problem at all.

Yeah -- for instance, it has one of my most popular plays logged as "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show, likely missidentified from the Lou Reed track, which I probably haven't played more than twice.  Almost every "Recently Played" log has the album name incorrect (seems to be just taking the song name and grabbing the first album it finds in some mysterious album database).  It also says I play a lot of Guns N Roses.  I think it wants me to kill myself.

scrobbling has never worked well for me.  this thing thinks I'm the world's biggest stereolab fan because I had a huge crush on them up until like 2003.  and it had issues with itunes before, not sure if they fixed those.  but I'll join and fuck it all up.

There's an application which "scrobbles" your music as you play it. The Mac version is slightly different than the Windows version. You can also use the application to enter a group or song, and Last.fm will play things it thinks are similar, but it's limited by its own selection (which has improved) and its own advertising goals (which were pretty bad at one point). To wit: I have a metric shit-tonne of Rob Zombie and White Zombie at the top of my most played list. For a long while, Last.fm would say "Based on your listening habits, you might enjoy Coldplay."

So, yeah, not perfect. Also, they've gone from a radio-like model to subscription based, for recommendation-based broadcasts. It pissed me off enough to consider leaving, but I've got enough data there that if their recommendation engine improves, it might send me in the right direction.

Okay, I'm going to give it another shot.

IMPRESSIONS: "Make Light" is fucking terrible. Watch those high notes. This is incredibly snoozy music. Like, come on, how many bands have done this ELO-lite pop shit before? And then the EMOTIONAL crecendo stuffed with left-over disco hi-hats from when dance punk was the hot thing. Yuck.

"Little Secrets" is pretty good. Great big splashes of burping joy synth, this is a motherfuckin' party jam.

"Moth's Wings" What? Fucking really? It's like he's been rooting around in Ben Gibbard's garbage.

"The Reeling" so good. Why isn't the rest of the album this good? Shimmery. Summer jam for real.

"To Kingdom Come" Who is a song like this for? Emo-synth apologists? I'm not sure.

"Swimming in the Flood" God, this is so fucking bad. It's just wispy and boring and done before. It's really bad.

"Folds In Your Hands" Okay-ish, but there are 15,000 songs just like this one that are better than this one. Also, it takes a full 2 minutes before you wanna dance to it.

"Eyes As Candles". What? Great if you are gay and just broke up with your first boyfriend. Or really miss Lionel Richie slow jamz.

"Sleepyhead", this shit KICKS. But the remaster here is worse than the version on "Chunk of Change". The whole appeal was that deep, kickin' booty bass and it really gets dialed back here. But, fuck, when the dude is on, he's on, and he's on here.

"Let your blah blah" GOD THIS SUCKS.

"Seaweed" i made it about 7 seconds in.

I just feel like 75% of these songs are really half-baked. Some of them RULE so hard, but the majority are just bad, boring, "next breakout artist" pop songs.

Such haterade. I will admit that the remix/master of Sleepyhead SUCKS BALLS HARD and takes away like half of the original's lo-fi charm and awesomeness. But I think you're being far too critical of the rest of the album, ESPECIALLY Kingdom Come and Eyes as Candles. I hated Eyes as Candles at first, but then I grew to love that absolutely filthy sounding saxophone or whatever at the end. I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously as an album, it's just a really light pop album, and you're being a hater.  :P

But I'm not gonna lie, I can totally see just about anyone hating this album for whatever reason. There's just nothing subtle about it whatsoever.
