Old Duke was great; it's just hilarious this happened after all the Duke Nukem Forever delays is all.  Seems like a fitting end for this vaporware of a title.  Maybe now the rights will revert to a company that will actually release the game.

PC gaming?

I bet the game would've been released for PS360 first.

And good. DNF can finally die. I'm sick of all the release rumors.

I admit that it is kind of a lame ending.  3D Realms should just release whatever they had of DNF (lol) and let the community decide from there.

I don't get it.  Isn't the Duke franchise still worth $$$?  Like if they were closing up, wouldn't they sell the IP to some other company who in turn would finish DNF and release it to make some quick and easy cash?

Both of those were transferred to Radar Group, with development of Earth No More being done by Recoil Games.

Well actually, i believe we have a bigger chance of getting a new Duke Nukem game than ever before. 3D Realms shuts down, their IPs will end up going to somebody, and that somebody will make a game based on them.

What I don't get about the DNF thing is that it wasn't that ambitious a project.  I can see how you could keep scrapping everything and starting over if you've got some grandiose vision in your head and so everything has to match it perfectly, but this game is just a dumb shooter.  Even if everything were executed perfectly, it would still be just a dumb shooter, so who cares if it's flawed?

George Broussard hyped it up by saying things like it would be the most interactive game of all time, whatever that means.

From wiki

Quote
The game was touted for its "unprecedented interactivity", aiming to "push the limits of gaming and establish new standards in interactivity, variety, and pure fun."

They should have just released the awesome 2001 build.

The gossip from that one dev was that everything (er, at least the gameplay) in the 2001 build was created only for that demo video.  It was phony.

I can't wait to hear the story behind this.

Is Georgre Broussand just some insane perfectionist/terrible manager?  After all this time, I get the sense that he'd rather see this project killed than have it come out and be anything less than perfect.  I would love to see all the levels and artwork and story stuff that they did, but I also imagine they will just bury it and not want to put their shame on display.

If you believed a story where CliffyB tackled some dude and threatened to stab his eye out with a broken leg chair, I would say you are an utterly gullible  distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.  But then I believed this game would eventually come out, so I guess I'm the bigger distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.

Hmm, looks like it had potential, although the environments look kind of generic.  What made Duke3D great were all the interactive environments and fun things you could do, levels that weren't generic warehouses and caves.

It actually makes fun of itself, which no game does that much anymore.  Even duke's model has the proportions of a action figure I guess.

It looks like the game was basically done but maybe 3DRealms couldn't get a publisher for it because maybe they weren't willing to give up the distribution rights or something.

If it were almost done, there wouldn't be so many non-texture mapped modeling demos.  If anything, the video confirms that it wasn't almost done.
