I'm not sure what the problem might be. I've used stock Ibanez pickups before and they're OK, and to this day I still play on a solid state since I can't be bothered with tube changes and I'm happy. It's hard to diagnose "awful messy distorted sound" over the internet.

If you play the same notes on the clean setting on your amp and it sounds buzzy or something then it could be your setup. If it just sounds bad on distortion, maybe you just don't like the distortion on your amp.

Just scooped this up before Barnes and Noble closed. Can't wait to read a little bit of it before bed! Volume 1 started off a little rocky but ended up being totally fucking awesome. Hopefully volume 2 continues this trend.

The 2 notes don't mash up together that great. Instead of a good power chord (is that even a power chord? what do you call that?) you get a....... mess of a sound! Like static noise or something.

Yes it's just on the distortion channel and yes, my distortion sucks. The R-Fier channel on the Cube 30 blows balls. I would have liked the Metal setting better actually if it didn't had a stupid muffled unclean sound, so I got no other choice than the R-Fier channel. I'm thinking of buying a cheap-ass tube amp with a distortion pedal because I think I had it with SS-amps. Maybe I just need to change pickups... or change my guitar... or better, both. New guitar plus better pickups on it. Hehe you can tell I'm really tired of my current setup because I have such awful tone.

Well there are many things which factor in the tone you get: how you set the tone/volume knob(s) on the guitar, pickups, amp (quality and how you have the tone knobs adjusted), wood of the guitar, setup (if there's lots of fret buzzing). Also, it's probably sounding dissonant because a regular F# power chord would look like:

E ------
B ------
G ------
D ------
A -4----
E -2----

That would be F# on the bottom (fat) E string and C# on the A string. Sometimes it's nice to have that dissonant sounding chord though, dissonance is metal!

Damn. That's a shame. Keep fiddling with it though, there has to be a way to get it working with the recorder. I'd even suggest hauling the gear down to a guitar store if that's feasible and see if they can get it going for you.

Guitards, (sorry), whats the difference between a hollow body and a regular guitar? I'm thinkin of picking up a cheap guitar so I can write parts and actually put something together. Was thinking of this beauty:

But i'm not sure if Hollow bodys require some like specific shit or how they're different. Or even if I should get that douglas instead gettign a cheap squire or something, since it'll be a first guitar.

Oh and if you guys ever need a really good cheap bass, get it from rondo. The guy who runs it is awesome and he has great deals on SX basses (koran made though), but they're up there with the entry line fenders.
