Any reason to buy this rather than download it for PSP?

I missed out on this series, even though it's something that's totally up my alley. Will be getting on Wii, especially with the $30 price point.

Wii's second best game is a port of a more than decade old PSX game.

I would've liked it better if the version on PSN for $5 wasn't almost exactly the same in every aspect.

Jungle beat is better. Klonoa is only like 12 stages -2 per level.  The challenge rooms are sadistic

I'm picking it up.  I rented the original back in the day, but never got to complete it.

The current Klonoa on Wii is the first one, Door to Phantomile, right? It doesn't have anything from 2 in it?

So far there hasn't been a new, real Klonoa game (foregoing party games and RPGs) since Klonoa 2 on PS2 in 2001. Klonoa's one of those games like Psychonauts or GTA: Chinatown Wars -- all the critics and hardcore gamers love it, and no-one is freakin' buyin' it.

I'm curious about the PSN version as well, especially since I've got a PSP but no Wii (though when I get a Wii, this will be an immediate purchase).

The PSN version is the same game.  Just get that.  Graphically I didn't even think it's that big of leap despite the generation power difference.

I bought it.  I only played it a bit and the only problems I had were that it seemed a lot easier than the already easy PS1 version, and the background effects sometimes got distracting (they do a blurring or dof effect, I dunno, it just looks weird).  It's fun.

Definitely one of the best games available for the Wii.  It's been a while since I've played the original so this feels fresh all over again.

Already have the game on psx but getting it. Still, how is it the 2nd best game on the wii? isn't it basically identical?

The game was already one of the best platformers out there and the Wii has a shitty lineup.  Therefore, Klonoa stands easily among the best games on the system.

It's good. It's got a couple of new tricks which are neat, and then two REALLY UNFORTUNATE z-axis sequences that don't belong in the game. Like those Crash Bandicoot forced-run boulder evasion sequences... Just... what were they thinking? And then the rest of the game, which is excellent. It's like having a great new album from your favorite band, with two songs on it that you just can't stand.

Klonoa Wii is really damn good.  Its a notable improvement on the PS1 game in every way.  After playing it for a few hours I went back and dug out my old copy of the PS1 version and while its still a fine game, it's graphics haven't aged well, its cinema scenes are fugly, and surprisingly enough, the controls are kinda slipperly.

Its ridicoulous that Namco couldn't be bothered to make a new game in the series, but for what it is, the Wii version is easily the best update of any game since REmake.

Is Klonoa still more retardedly easy than a Nintendo game?

Yup, but I am only halfway through the game. I am not sure if the difficulty changes later on.

So why do people like it? It's short, you just wasted $50 or whatever on it, and it's not even a challenge. Do you just like the character Klonoa?

Well, the game has a simple yet endearing story, excellent game mechanics, great visuals [for Wii], a challenging collection element (to balance out how easy the platforming is, I guess), and a surprisingly bittersweet ending.

The levels are visually diverse and the music is pretty good if occasionally annoying, but for the most part, it fits the mood. The artistic design is pretty surreal too. I really liked the setting of Phantomile. The game is also really cute.

:supergay

The stages are interesting, and the bosses are great. I enjoyed it. :)

It was a challenge the first time through. The key for me is that it's got a dirt simple control scheme, but the grab-throw, grab-fly mechanic was reasonably deep in its application. There's no questioning "Is this jump a dash-jump, double-jump, roll-run-jump...?" There are only the two choices, so it's always a question of which order to use them in, and making the timing. I found it kind of meditation-inducing; that whole "flow" concept came into play, and I was immersed.

Also, for its day, it was really pretty; the whole 2.5D thing was reasonably fresh, and it did it better, prettier, with more consistency and fun than its contemporaries like Wild 9.
