I enjoyed Aliens 3 if only because I went in expecting it to be completely terrible and there were a few redeeming elements. Still not a great film, and doesn't even touch Alien/Aliens. It's still better the Resurrection though.

the reason alien is so great is because it focues on how the alien is this perfect life form, and the hopelessness that goes along with that

aliens is a classic too, but it is a bug hunt through and through, the focus is on the marines and theres little to no reverence for the aliens

Alien 3 was a big F-U you to Aliens. It basically said everything in that film was for nothing. Ripley goes back to get Newt only to have her killed off in the beginning on Alien 3. What the hell? At least Alien Resurrection had Ron Perlman in it... $:-\$

I was listening to the commentary for Aliens the other day and James Cameron said that Sigourney Weaver wanted three things in the movie.

1. To die
2. To have sex with an alien
3. To not use guns.

He then basically said the sequels were garbage because they listened to her.
