like the opinion of people that paid for it holds more merit :smug

anyway i seems to understand that the extra character is the annoying, chirpy little girl a-la anise from tales of abyss so after thinking it for a while maybe it is better this way....

lol, American PS3 only owners are still butthurt about not being able to play Vesperia on their shitbox. Lets face it, if they really like JRPGS they would have shelled out for the Xbro 360 years ago.

Also PS3 is not region locked, they could have just imported Vesperia for PS3 and grew a set of balls and learned japanese. No sympathy

I fought one of those Deathmasks on the final floor of FF4's dungeon, and I got the rarest drop from them (Glass Mask).

It's just one of those moments where it's all a-ok. Wish I could get the Pink Tail... knowing I am going to die and never get Adamant Armor  :'(

:lol I helped Sceneman out one afternoon with the table waiting in ToV i.e. reciting what I thought they ordered. You have to do it with each separate character to the end in order to get their special outfit smh

Started up on NIER this weekend. I like it a lot, although I'm not very far in (up to the junk heap). It reminds me of a non-shitty Infinite Undiscovery for some reason. The graphics aren't anything to write home about, but they get the job done. Music is really nice, and the story seems a bit quaint so far... perhaps I have to play more to see where all the praise comes from?

What I really like about the game is how fast your character moves - especially with the ability to jump and dash, it really makes traveling through the environments a blast. The sidequest memo is great too, reminiscent of The Witcher's, a bit. The best parts of the game so far are the goats who kick you, and BOAR DRIFTING :rock

The only things I don't like are, the boar controls are a bit sluggish, it takes a while to get up (and enemies like to beat you when you're down), you get knocked back too easily when you get hit... and of course the DOLPHINS in the ocean of the Seaside town  :punch

I'm not sure why people here found the story to be any more than wacky bullshit. If you're not a fan of the story at this juncture, it only gets more lol.

But thank you for highlighting the mobility in this game. That's why I keep defending Nier's gameplay. Too few games nowadays give you as much control over your character's movement and it's really awesome zipping around levels. Later on, the combat gets fucking HOT (the game starts drowning you in dudes to fight) and my god it's so good.

EDIT: It makes me want to pop it back in and play some more but I think somebody snuck into my house and replaced my copy of the game with text.

Playing Baldur's Gate. Having a difficult time keeping my party alive in the early going. With so few hit points, it's not difficult for a single blow to kill somebody.

The combat from those Bioware/Black Isle RPGs from the 90's was really brutal. It's complex and hard as nails, totally unforgiving. Basically, you have to treat every single battle as a boss battle and dig through each character's quirks and skills looking for the right combination to win.

I also think my choice of class wasn't really a good one. I'm playing as a Scorcerer (enabled via running the game under BG1Tutu), which seemed like a good idea at the time. But, I don't know, the mage seems pretty week, and I'd probably be better off if I had just selected a fighter. I could use another tank, after all. If I could change my class right now without starting over, I would probably do it.

:lol I was going to comment on this aspect of your whoring. As Demi said, weird and OCD. I mean, once you lose your 360 (inevitable it will break btw) you'll lose all your achievement data and you cannot sync your offline profile to an online profile in future. If you made a online profile then stayed offline using that you could sync it at a later date though (well it would do it automatically as soon as you went online).

Beat Silent Hill 3 on PS2.

I have never beaten a survival horror game until now. I've always found the genre so repulsive because of how awful the core gameplay usually is. Something in Silent Hill 3 kinda grabbed me (specifically it's extremely short length) and I was able to get through it. The visuals are absolutely stunning for a PS2 game and the soundtrack is really great. Never got to hear any of Yamaoka's legendary music until this game and I must concur with the masses. Shit's legit.

Either way, I think Killer 7's up next.

yep, home to Resident Evil 4, Killer 7, and Baten Kaitos Origins. Better than PS2 for those reasons IMO. (yes I know Re4 and Killer 7 are on PS2 also but the GC versions are superior.)

PS2 has a much larger library of good games of course.

against schwartz/notraven,i always seems to end up too close when he does his mystic arte,by the time i'm on my feet,he already stopped clutching his heart, and if i try to go outside his range,he either decide to not use his mystic arte or he starts chasing after yuri, which leads to the previous scenario, and when the stars aline and he uses his mystic arte without hitting yuri, yuri is too far to hit him with azure fang before he stops clutching his heart! :maf :maf :maf

if i had a way to force him to use his mystic arte more than once this wouldn't be so frustating

do you have the push 'X' recover skill? Equip that. If you dont you can leave the dungeon and buy the weapon and learn it. When this is equipped you can just push X to get up right away (sometimes in midair if you time it right!). You can then get up fast and hit him with azure fang. It may still take a couple of tries though

It depends on what you like in your OWGs. I enjoyed it a lot; I definitely enjoyed it more than I expected, with all the reviews lambasting it for being clunky and derivative. It -IS- clunky and derivative, but not obtrusively so.

I was browsing a thread on Shoryuken.com concerning the game speed of SSF2T:HDR and it devolves into a sad debate over input lag, then CRT vs. HDTVs, then 4:3 vs. 16:9 aspect ratio in a tournament setting, and finally boils down to a competition of the most pure gaming rigs:

I want to buy the Panasonic Viera X1 so bad, since it has 0-1 frames of input lag, which is godlike for an LCD. Too bad they stopped producing them and are thus super rare. Someone finally made a good gaming LCD and of course it's unpossible to find. :-\

Yay, now you will see why Vesperia is just an average Tales game.

Awesome first half, amazing graphics, totally shit 2nd half.  And very average battle system (for a Tales battle system) and cast is generic animu characters other than Yuri who rocks.  Estelle is the worst offender.

Hopefully Xillia is like Vesperia except with a good battle system like Graces and a 2nd half that doesn't become awful.

i see nothing wrong with the battle system,it's exactly like tales of symphonia where you just chain hit like crazy, heck in fact now that i can do 6-hit combo - base arte - arcane arte - base arte it's even more kickass

it's a lot better than abyss with that stupid glyph system and character that were shoe-horned into roles

It's boring.  You do 6 hit combo -> base -> arcane art -> base art then repeat over and over and over and over again.  It's the equivalent of playing FFX and hitting X every battle.

Judith is the only good character from a gameplay perspective since she can do some neat air juggling.  Yuri's combat is boring.  It starts off fun and could maybe be enough for a 30 hour game, but by 50 hours in he is so boring to play as.  I did the entire 2nd half of the game as Judith.

Graces, Destiny R are a lot more free-form like a real fighting game and less just doing one combo over and over.  Plus Destiny R has good air combat.  Much, much better.  Basically all Team Destiny battles systems are way better.

Abyss also has a better battle system because of the FoF/Glyph system.  It's the same boring standard combat as Vesperia combat BUT building circles around the battlefield to modify moves into cooler more powerful version of moves at least gave it an interesting gimmick that kept it a little more fresh.

Like you said, Vesperia is like Symphonia.  Symphonia is their worst battle system because it was their FIRST 3d battle system and so it was incredibly standard.  Symphonia is the 3d equivalent to their early 2d battle systems like Phantasia/Destiny or even Eternia (although Eternia actually had some interesting combo systems).  Their early 2d and 3d battle systems are simple, you do the standard hits, then your special move, then your bigger special move, then finish with hi-ougi.  Repeat.  Nothing much more than that.  Then they started adding things to their 2d and 3d battle systems to make them more than that, but Vesperia was kind of a step back to the basics.  Like I said, Judith's air juggle system is basically the only modern Tales part of the combat system.
