I got a 360 finally! I bought the elite black version. In the games department I got,

Gears of War
Mass Effect
Oblivion 4
Bioshock

I'm pretty stoked. Any good games on xbox live? What else should I know?

Why cause its based on Rand philosophy?

I got those games cause they were a great deal.

Gears of war was $20
Oblivion + Bioshock was $30
Mass Effect was $20

I bought Overlord 2 but took it back after I read some reviews.

Decent deals. The price to playtime ratio on BioShock/Oblivion is crazy. I think my playtime on Oblivion was close to 200 hours and I must have played BioShock at least 4 times through. If you like Gears, BestBuy has the sequel for $30 this week. It is much better than the first game in every respect.

If you want to play multiplayer, a handful of us play Battlefield 1943 and its downloadable only.

I'm not going to buy any more games for a while. The next game will be Dead Space.

Did the elite come with HD cables? My roommate hooked all the shit up and I couldnt tell. It didnt look like it at first glance, but who knows.

Yeah, I would have been pretty miffed if I hadn't had an extra HDMI cable. Microsoft is the new 2006 Sony.

On the upside, there is now a resale market for HD cables.

Isn't the base X360 cable component/composite ready? I think the ones over here do modular component, but it's been a while since I purchased.

For some reason everyone wants to make extra money off the HDMI cable sale. There was a gamesindustry.biz article on it where the guy speculated that the marketing people were putting in the cable they felt most of their users would be able to use immediately. Bullshit: everybody loves a chance to make an accessory sale with a huge margin, particularly since the margin on 360s and PS3s is so bad to begin with.

On topic: since my RB2 disc died, I'm playing RB1 and trying to mop up the last few "Big in _____" Achievements. I did an 18 song set on Hard tonight playing both vocals and geetahr. I thought I was doomed when Train Kept A Rollin' started, but I managed to squeak by. I'm just happy that Flirtin' With Disaster or GGaHT didn't start; I can't get through those on Hard on guitar.

Finished Batman and Castlevania:Harmony of Dissonance. I ended up enjoying Batman alot but was a bit disappointed with how the final battle and ending played out:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The whole game builds up to the big confrontation with the Joker only you don't fight him. Instead you just fight more of same goons you've been fighting against since the beginning of the game. Disappointing considering the elaborate Poison Ivy and Killer Croc battle before that.
[close]

Also with Batman I finally passed 10,000 achievment points ("Conquering Fear" being the achievement that passed it).  :pimp

Currently playing:

Neverhood- This has been on the backburner for a very long time. So far it's been a damn good experience. The atmosphere and world are great, and the game contains what I believe is the longest belch ever in videogame history.

The musc is also really good. Nothing so far quite reaches the level of the Little Bonus Room song in Skullmonkeys, but I found myself singing this lovely tune in the shower this morning:

Also playing:

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon- 92% done. Soo much better than Dissonance.

Mario & Luigi Superstar- Just arrived at the HooeyHoThing University.

Blue Dragon- Still Playing

KoF XII 360- Still not playing

Just played through and finished Uncharted for the first time.  I really enjoyed the game, and loved the fast-pace of everything.  It had very few "puzzles" and was action/platforming 98% of the time.  Lots of rewards to unlock too; might go back and see about getting everything at some point.  Can't wait for the sequel.

Yeah.  You can find cheap HDMI cables on Amazon, too.  Just make sure to avoid paying the insane, ridiculous, absurd high prices these cables go for at brick and mortar stores.  Today's Best Buy catalog in the paper was showing an HDMI cable and the BIG SAVINGS of $10 OFF on one, making the price only $39.99!  WOW!   :lol ::)  Don't pay more than $10 for one of these cables if you don't need one that long.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Really loving it, it's my favorite game of 2009 so far. It goes a long way in making you feel like your actually Batman, using his gadets and moves but also being a detective and using stealth to your advantage.

Tales of Monkey Island - Turned out to be way better than I thought it would. Episode 1 was a fun, but had a few problems and was a bit rough around the edges. Episode 2 has been a definite step up.

Majesty 2 - It's a fun game, but an hour or two in and it's already starting to get repetitive. Plus, it's not really that much different from the first game, except for the addition of 3D and a few new buildings.

Ha, I actually just bought Ico the other day.  I never owned my own copy and borrowed a friends copy to play it.  Saw it in really good condition, so I picked it up cheap-ish.  I probably won't play it again for another two week (since I'll be finishing M&L3, playing ODST, MAG beta).  Last time I played it was six or seven years ago.

I was actually looking for my copy of Ico but couldn't find the thing so I settled on SOTC.  I hope I didn't lose it or accidently give it away - I can't remember seeing it in quite awhile.  I was looking online at the used market for Ico yesterday and it starts at $99 but maybe I should look locally.  If you don't mind me asking swaggaz, how much did you pay?

Frankly I just wish Sony would announce an Ico package similar to their God of War one, you know both games on one disc, 1080p, and a stable framerate.  I'd definitely be willing to double or triple dip for that.

Chipping through Time Gentlmen, Please!  Which at 2 hours in is good, but not as good as Ben There, Dan That.  Playing Motorstorm 2 a little, which is freaking awesome, but it's a rental and with ODST tomorrow I think I'll just return it and buy it eventually and devote real time to it; and just got Prototype in the mail today so I wanna try that tonight before ODST comes tomorrow.

Yes.  From my experience as a DQ noob:

DQIV = awesome
DQV = awesome

DQVIII = good, but not awesome
DQIX = meh

I am stoked for DQVIr!

Yeah, the DQ4 remake is decent but I don't like it as much as 5 (my favorite in the series)... it overdoes the accents to the point of annoying-ness, and the story is a bit more simple than 5. But the 'chapters' system is cool, and Torneko's chapter is one of the more unique RPG quests.

I really like DQ3, best way to play is on GB Color or the SNES fan translation... it's much more challenging than 5, there's a lack of story, and there are parts that have a fair amount of nonlinearity and it's easy to get lost and have no clue what to do. 8 is also fantastic, a great technical showcase for the PS2, awesome world map, nice cel-shaded graphics... only complaint is the battles run a bit slower than the DS games due to the loadtimes.

Well the tracks are awesome!  I was actually really surprised since I didn't think much of the original.  But the tracks here gave me that arcade racing experience that I haven't had since RSC2 or the Sega Rally arcade racers (Wipeout excepted because it's a bit different genre than car racing).  Going through branching tunnels, taking jumps on beaches, climbing volcanos, jumping off cliffs; I really, really love the tracks I played in the first few ranks.  Also the handling feels much better this time around.  I felt in control with a lot of the cars and was avoiding crashes (except when the AI runs over me) whereas in the original I would crash a lot for stupid reasons.

But yeah the AI tries their hardest to ruin everything.  I think the only way to enjoy M2 without raging is doing time trials alone (if that's even possible?) or playing online since at least humans can't cheat even if most of the online community is pretty good at this point.

I remember hearing around the time of Killzone 2 that the cheap frustrating difficulty spikes in certain Sony exclusives are not the work of devs but Sony mandated for some reason I can't even comprehend (lengthen playtime?  Seem more hardcore?).  I wonder if that applies to Motorstorm, because if Sony is telling them to keep putting cheap insanely difficult AI in the series, then there's no hope of Motorstorm 3 having a more fair difficulty curve.  :\

-Infinite Turbo at times (their version of rubberbanding)
-CRUSHING YOU OUT OF NOWHERE (this one is hard to prove, but it happens often if you are a smaller vehicle to suddenly land from a jump in the clear or take a turn and get a cutscene of a BIG TRUCK RUNNING YOU OVER FROM BEHIND).  It's great when you're in 1st place and then BAM you died out of nowhere and are in 8th place now and no time to catch up.
