As far as noteworthy moments, everything about the fight with The End. It's such a brilliantly designed battle. When he's aiming at you, the sunlight reflecting off his sniper scope will show you where to aim. Capturing and releasing his parrot will reveal his location as well. The weather changes throughout the fight and I love how you have three zones to stalk one another in. I still haven't successfully gotten his camo. There was one time I snuck up to him with the shotgun and got him to drop it, but before I could move he tossed a stun grenade and picked his camo back up. I was pissed. I kept the save right before his fight on a separate file so I can go back and play around in it whenever I feel like.

I'm fighting The End right now and goddamn I was sneaking up on him, got behind him and aimed my gun and Snake didn't say freeze so I walked around a bit and the fucker spotted me. FUUUUUCKKKK. It was so frustrating. Why didn't he say freeze? I hope this battle isn't gonna take too long since I'm tranqing everything on this play and I was very lucky to defeat The Fear really quickly in one try. I just picked up whatever food he hunted before he could reach it lol. Such a 'low' move :P

I know you're playing the HD collection, but did you ever play MGS3 when Metal Gear Online was still up? If you found the right person to play with, I get the feeling you would've loved it.

I didn't have a network adapter for my PS2 so no. I have no idea at all how the MGO experience was. What was good about it?

I must also point out how fucking terrible Major Zero is. His script is such filler bullshit and the guy who voices him is annoying.
Look at this horrible dialogue:

Major Zero: Snake, it appears you were knocked out by The End's tranquilizer rounds..
Snake: Yeah... but why didn't he kill me?
Major Zero: I don't know. But I except he's still in Sokrovenno.
Until you defeat The End, you won't be able to reach the mountains.
Major Zero: Snake, go back to Sokrovenno. And this time, finish him!

We get it, you want me to do my goddamn mission. Shut the fuck up.
This guy basically says all sorts of obvious stupid shit and is very pushy, cold and has no emotion in his voice at all. Horrible character.

"Snake, don't forget to breath. Breathing is essential for this mission. If you don't breath, you can't defeat the enemy and won't be able to complete your mission. So breath, and focus on your mission. Got it?"

Duplicator? Whats that? I thought the player was just alternating meal ticket use and backstep?

It's an item available in the library late in the game for some ridiculously high amount of cash, $500,000 or something.  It lets you use consumables infinitely and is as fun/awesome as it sounds.
Yep, once you've Drac it shows up in the shop.

This happened to me, too. I eventually looked up a video to get the right distance, and it's basically a space as big as the character models in the game. So put enough space between you and him that someone could stand there, and then try pulling your gun. Protip: he won't give up his camo unless you aim at his head.

I didn't have a network adapter for my PS2 so no. I have no idea at all how the MGO experience was. What was good about it?
A friend of mine and I did a 1-on-1 sniper duel and it was basically like fighting The End all over again. Playing on pubs mostly got you people gunning each other down with the XM16E1 endlessly, but if you played with people who were willing to adopt arbitrary rules in the pursuit of more fun (ex. CQC only, Books only, hide-and-go-seek) you'd get the chance to really fool around with the mechanics.

I agree about Major Zero btw. It's odd that he isn't well-characterized despite going on to become one of the most important people in the entire series' fiction. Sigint was easily my favorite, and Para-Medic's film trivia was cute. Early in my playthrough I "paused" a codec convo to do something and tried buttoning through the text when I came back. What I discovered is that the writing alone doesn't do a very good job at giving the characters a personality, at least in the codec (where most of your interaction with them occurs). If it wasn't for the voice actors putting decent work in, I'm not sure I'd be half as willing as I am to swallow Kojima's writing, and that applies to all the dialog.

What mode are you playing hard corps on? Arcade mode?

Mainly Rising Mode currently, as I'm training myself up using the level select feature, so I can practice my problem areas. I doubt I'll get the cheev for beating the game without dying, but I would like to be good enough at the game to 1cc Arcade mode at least. I'm getting there! Thankfully Stage 5 is cake after Stage 4, and Stage 6 is short, but fucking hell, I lost 10 lives on the Stage 6 boss last night. REALLY need more practice on that guy.

Going through Metroid Prime 2 (Wii version) and really enjoying it.  Never finished it when I tried 8 years ago 'cause MGS3, GTASA, HL2, Halo 2, etc. (2004 :bow2).  Was bummed to reach the point I left off in only like an hour or two.  Don't know why I remember playing more of it.

sony needs to hurry up with my rebate so i can get hard corps.  then hopefully RE:CVX is at least 50% off during the RE sale in a couple weeks.  then i will have every mainline RE...and the archives books...and some guides.  not my fave series, but the one i own the most stuff of.  weird.

As of this moment, The End's ass, camo and sniper are mine :mynicca
dat 100% camo index.
It's hard to sneak up on this nicca whenever he's not asleep. He sees your ass from miles ahead even with a camo index of 85%
Damn I love it when the Cobra Unit say their name whenever they die. Badass.
Heh he was saying "This is the end..." again when he had little health left as I was sneaking up on him and I was like "Yup, this is the end for you indeed, fucker :pimp"

Something similar to fighting The End for multiplayer sounds cool yeah, though I wonder how things turn out once you spot each other. I figure it's not too hard to lose track of each other unless you can use things like flash/stun grenades or something to disappear out of sight. Where do these online games take place again? In game environments or special custom made areas?

And Sigint is so cringe-worthy, it's only now that I don't think he's bad but I pretty much hated everyone in the cast aside from Eva on my first play cause they have monotone voices coupled with their simple predictable scripts. Sigint was just  :ohhh
Like really, they put a black guy in the game and give him that 'gangsta' style of speaking? Not to mention this takes place in the 60's and he's a weapon expert.

Grats on getting his camo. During your fight with him, did he ever try recharging his stamina? It's funny to catch him doing it.

Re: Sigint, MGS is not exactly reknown for its portrayal of ethnic characters, right?. Do you ever get to call Eva for idle chat? Every time I tried it was the same NO RESPONSE shit.

And yeah, the multiplayer had its own custom stages and there were a few that were great for hiding/evasion. Stun grenades were definitely useful.

He did recharge but I only heard it, couldn't see what he was doing.

I really lost my patience with the game at this moment. It's a pity, I don't feel the motivation to really try my best to stay as stealth as possible. I just pop the tranq gun whenever I lose my cool :/
You do get the chat with Eva save for the beginning when she's with Volgin etc. She's too sexy, I can't believe computer generated babes can be so attractive :/

I got the feeling the game's scenarios were designed around the use of the Mk22, so don't be too hard on yourself for having to resort to it. Don't worry, soon enough the game will rid you of it for a little while. Have fun with that :)

...anyways why do you not like the tranq gun? are you really just trying to run around without interacting with the guards? cuz that seems like itd be a pain in the ass to play that way

Along the years I realized that the tranq gun totally breaks the game and enables you to blaze through areas if you rely on it too much. It's a safety net that shouldn't have been implemented, or shouldn't have been a stock item. I feel like the true way to play a stealth game is to be as realistic as possible. Meaning you actually sneak your way through the whole game, as a stealth sneaking mission is supposed to be. Don't you agree there's an amazing quality to being able to play through a game without being spotted once? Ghost your way throughout the world, the guards never knew there was an intruder. The idea is very tempting. I totally feel this is the ultimate way to play stealth games. I hope I'm able to pull it off someday.

I'll admit that the concept of a stealth game focused entirely on avoiding any kind of enemy encounter could be a lot of fun, but tranq darts are still a pretty cool way of nonlethally subduing guards. Imagine how strange that'd be if you were working for the GRU and unexpectedly blacked out on the job. Imagine if you suddenly awoke inside a locker :lol you probably wouldn't be eager to report that information to your superior officer!

I've actually been meaning to play that forever, but the friend I'd be borrowing it from is already lending me Resident Evil remake. I want to finish that game before I ask for another, and I've been procrastinating about it for a while now.

Playing Mark of the Ninja lately. Surprised at how much I like it considering I didn't enjoy what I played of Shank much. Their art style looks better in this game too. Killing way too many people though, I'll have to play through it a second time I guess.

I love Mark of the Ninja. But so far I find it weird that despite having a no kills score counter at the score screen, it feels as if it impossible to NOT kill. In MGS and Splinter Cell, well timed and thought out strategy can get you out of bind without killing or even engaging conflict. This seems to be because MOTN bases its design around items you get over time. It is very unlike SC or MGS where you have ALL of your stealth abilities from the very beginning. But here in MOTN I'm just now getting ways to distract guards. Maybe the game is all about replay value, I don't know but it is the biggest major flaw with the game.

edit: also, i found something that's rumored to be a prototype of Ninja Gaiden xbox.  Like a game Tecmo worked on that got canceled, but has lots of similarities to NG.  I shall try it later.  this xbox is turning out to be a very good purchase.   Can't believe I used to play fighting games on the Controller S though.

I don't know about the PSP one, but DOAXBV2 is ass.  30fps, ugly graphics, bad mini-games immediately come to mind.  I think the volleyball was worse, but its been a while since I tried it.  Overall, it doesn't retain that same simple but fun formula...adding extra, poorly playing stuff ruined it.  The cheevs are impossible too.

There's also a mention of Zobek in one line spoken by an enemy that Simon fights.

beat em ups really got shit on last gen.   Urban Reign, Spike Out, Beatdown, others-- all got like 5s on release but are good to great brawlers.  even the final fight game.   I guess they were rated as a $50 game at launch, which is fair enough.   also, their cutscene/story attempts are bad attempts at edgy, but that only makes them more charming.

Didn't Cody die and turn into a zombie or some shit in Streetwise?

I also remember that game having really fun facial animations.

if only it were that simple :lol

Quote
Kyle and Cody Travers are brothers who take part in the sport of underground fighting. As Cody Travers' younger brother, Kyle is the star of the underground Metro City fight club, spending nights fighting various other fighters in order to earn enough quick cash to make ends meet. After the end of a fight one evening, Kyle and Cody decide to meet at the local bar to celebrate with some beers and a round of pool; however, Cody has some unspoken business that delays his arrival for an hour. After Kyle arrives at the bar, he plays a game with his girlfriend and bar owner Vanessa Sims (whose brother is a member of the police department), while waiting for Cody. Kyle later finds out that Cody is using a powerful strength-enhancing drug called "glow", which helps the arthritis in his knees. Kyle later discovers that glow is being made by a psychotic priest named Father Bella, who hopes to use the drug to bring about the apocalypse. When Kyle finds Bella on the roof of his church, Cody is with him, mutated by a concentrated dose of glow. It is later revealed that Bella is actually the younger brother of Belger, the antagonist of the original game, just before he and Kyle begin to fight.

During the battle, Cody regains his senses, and throws himself and Bella off the roof. In the courtyard of the church where both Bella and Cody have landed from the fall and survived, Bella reaches for his handgun but is stopped by Kyle. He says to Kyle "I am your savior," but Kyle picks up the gun, telling Bella, "You're nothing." Kyle then shoots Bella in the head. Afterward he finds Cody unconscious from the fall.

Some time later, Kyle and Cody wake up in the hospital, where they meet with Vanessa whose brother was killed during the final battles; she holds onto her late brother's badge in his memory. Cody's arthritis is now gone and he seems eager to resume fighting. Kyle notices Dr. Chang, the creator of "glow", leaving the police station on the local news and mentions he has a feeling this might not be over quite yet.

Cody developing drug dependency issues due to arthritis is a great premise for an action game. shoulda had Frank Miller write it. Poison would fit in better than ever.

Finished Dragon's Dogma. Pretty sweet ending. Really enjoyed it. Need to run through a second time and do some cleanup.
