Pretty much all the mechanics feel pretty bad. Combat, traversal, shooting, etc. It's all pretty cheap and feels like a budget game. It's not very fun to play unless you REALLY like this kind of thing and can get over how bad it all plays.

Plus the PC version is a technical nightmare.

The thing is, is IS a budget game. It was made on the cheap, comparatively. I just kind of took it for what it was, and what it aspired to. There were some legitimately scary parts in it for me, and I enjoyed the tension they managed to invoke between the need to play it safe by staying close to home, and the need to get out further and further to find more resources.

The parts I was not fond about are:
  • The "diary" UI to track events, materials, happenings, etc. It felt cheaper than much of the rest of the game, and could have been streamlined to present information more naturally.
  • Averting a crisis by going to some random spot and fighting zombies was not only tedious, it was unrealistic when the person is terrified or depressed. There should have been other types of missions within those situations. I'd like to have seen some of it be "take them to their house to pick up something they forgot" or "bring them an energy drink" and then you have to find an energy drink if there isn't one in the larder. Or build a specific type of facility on the Home grounds.
What kind of problems does the PC version have?

I think I'm at the end of Arkham Origins. Yeah, it's more of the same, but lots of fun and the story is better than Asylum and City.

I loved the game back to front, and will double dip when it comes to Steam, and will probably play the next thing from Undead Labs, which is an MMO based on the same property.

It's on Steam right now and has been out of early access beta for about a month or so.

Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
I had forgotten how pretty this is. Ancient Greece has a really nice colour palette. They also went above and beyond in the animations and physics department, which I had entirely forgotten. The latter is kinda annoying as far as loot goes, because it drops in slow motion and rolls down slopes and such, but catapulting enemies off the map with a critical strike is very satisfying.
Also, when you attack an enemy in front of you with regular forward or downward swings and then attack something to the side or behind you there's a transitioning backhand swing. That's totally pointless but it's pretty to look at. The seamless transitions into caves are great, too.

The Dream mastery, which I had previously never even seriously looked at because of how goofy it sounded is seriously overpowered. The latest Cruncheons made me take another look. Bloodly hell, it's amazing. I'm only level 12 and wrecking everything I come across. As soon as you put a single point into the second tier of any ability they turn from OK to amazing.

The writing is soooo much better. And the boss fights too.

I don't get why it got so many far lower scores because it's "more of the same", you gave the first two 9.5's and 10's and so on (which they deserved) why wouldn't you want more of the same?!? Especially with all the little iterations done to the core.

Even with the worse voice acting and UI, some tiny issues with the city design, oddly off combat/gadgets at times, and the bugs people are encountering.

Looks pretty good at times on PC too.

When I bought Dragon Age I knew nothing about it except it had sex and violence and was made by Bioware. I had Gothic and such in mind, but it was a KOTOR clone like all their 3D RPG's. I still liked it though.

Dark Arisen owns.

I just picked the right gambits and finally beat this boss I was stuck at in FFXII :whew I got stuck there seven years ago and never touched the game again.

Which boss was that, Cosby? Gilgamesh in the Mines? :teehee

And yeah Dragon Age kinda, sorta reminds me of Gothic from Piranha Bytes.

The two judges and their cronies in The Dreadnought Leviathan :beli

I wish Dragon Age was just like Gothic :lawd Except the third one though. There isn't a fan patch in the world that can fix that combat.

Whatever my opinion is about Demon's Soul/Dark Souls, (Don't like either) it strikes me an odd comparison to compare Dragon Age against those games.

Dragon Age is a bioware party story based rpg in the lineage of Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Kotor, etc. You may not like it or think its as good as some of those, but its certainly not trying to be anything like Demon's Soul.

Dragon Age: Origins

Wow, this is some garbage. I loved Baldur's Gate 1&2, Icewind Dale etc. Fantasy RPGs are *my* thing. But I do not find any enjoyment in Dragon Age 1 after playing Demon's Souls.

Everything screams FAKE here:

- invisible barriers all around me
- you cannot fall off a bridge
- you cannot fall off a cliff
- awkward animations
- uber shit MMORPG-like combat where you just mash the attack button and wooden combat animation starts playing
- mega easy run of the mill enemies that can kill you in 20 blows (playing on Hard) vs run of the mill enemies that can kill you in 2 blows in Demon's Souls (no challenge in Dragon Age)
- catastrophic level desing
- no scale of the architecture AT ALL
- uggo graphics
- uninspired levels
- BORE-ASS BORING GAME
- fetch'a quest galore
- etc.

I made my way to the camp in Ostagar and I am already bored to tears with this game. It is funny because the writing and questing is up to the Baldur's Gate level but the mechanics are soooooo out of Demon's Souls touch that I simply cannot play it. I cannot. It is broken, fake, not real, there is no feedback, the combat is boring and requires no skill etc. I am afraid Demon's Souls has spoiled me till the end of my life when it comes to fantasy RPGs.

DA plays much better on PC.  I'm not just talking about improved performance and graphics.

One big difference is being able to scroll back on the camera which makes the graphics look much better and more useful in combat like BG

Desktop Dungeons

still playing this,i'll be honest... there is lot of stuff to do,all of the dungeons introduced have interessing gimmick and i like this a lot but making progress it's kind of a chore as each dungeon has to be repeated 3,4 times with different classes before the game goes "ok,allright,i understand, you got it,you can progress with the game" sometimes the game doesn't even care about assigning you a class for challenge purpouse and goes like "whatever, just finish it with 4 classes i don't care"

some of the quest are painfull like "play with the wizard class and don't cast a single spell" and "play with the ilikepotions class and don't use any potion" the last one required me a lot of tries

Beat the Saidaioujou world record in training mode with B-L twice now (the current 'overall' WR is 1.240t, I got 1.250 and 1.265). There's still one section that's driving me crazy because I can't find a method to get through it consistently, but I'm about to say fuck it and start playing some real credits. Guess I'll just have to roll the dice.

If you start to research the game's little secrets it's going to consume you. It's kinda like Dark Souls in that there are so many little nuances to the game's mechanics, and yet nothing is overtly explained.

If you combined Episode 1 and 2 it would be a better game than HL2. There's some excellent set pieces in Episode 1... it's just too confined.

Episode 2 is so good that it's probably the best piece of HL content to date.

Grinding Ryse online - shouldnt take too long since I am pretty beast at online. Will get quicker as I get more XP increasing equipment.

a friend of mine is playing la mulana so i decided to join him and i'm so fucking frustated,i honestly have no idea where to go or what to do,heck i feel lucky i was able to find the second boss without any single trip to a walkthrough

stuff that would help me

- hall of giants, there is a chest with an arrow on it i can't open... i also have no idea where to find the map for that zone
- how to destroy that weird chimera that block the passage on the temple of sun
- where to get the helmet so i can dick around the aqueduct
- getting the software that let you warp to the temple of moon and twin maze
- finding the orb in temple of sun (i already found the cross)
- i see a lot of cracked orbs on the wall, coincidentaly they are often paired together with a closed chest... what's the trick with them?

you mean the runes on the walls? you need to find the corresponding tablets.

make sure you read the manual; itll tell you how to get around in the early game.

you cant solve every puzzle in every area just yet; sometimes you need to do something in another zone to solve a puzzle (i.e. the unbreakable sphinx)

also annoyingly some important stuff is hidden in the walls; whip everywhere

theres four or five tablets hidden in the game that will activate each of those corresponding orbs

iirc one is hidden in the overworld be the lake, but maybe you need to beat a boss first? i cant remember

i need to go back and finish the game because i made it really far and got stuck at some giant puzzle with clues scattered all over the game.

La Mulana

i got tired of making no progress and took a quick trip to the wiki to answer at least some of those question, turns out one of the chest i couldn't open needed to be open by interacting with an invisible dais, what the fuck game? :what the game kinda tells you the location of it but how was i supposed to know that the thing i was looking for was a dais and not just a place to hit with my weapons?

then i used the wiki to find the third boss and this too made me angry because
spoiler (click to show/hide)
i tought weyjat would be some statue but it actualy turned out to be that stupid eye-trap thing i ignored because i tought there was no way to interact with it since there was one of those stupid seal in the room!
[close]

then i found the helmet (turns out i actualy passed in front of the shop that sells it but didn't notice because i tought the shop was an actual element of the background) and somehow cleared the whole aqueduct area without any help from the wiki and got the first seal key

then i used the seal key thing on the third area and it gave me an hint of how to find the third boss after i had to use the wiki to find it which annoyed me even more

then i found the 6th area and the thing is shrouded in darkness and the only way to traverse it is to fire a sub-weapon whose ammo cost a lot of money oh and the whole thing loops in itself because fuck it! it still wasn't confusing and stupid enough

i swear this game was made to give the player an aunerysm... having found 4 boss so far i must admit that this game catches the 90' konami visual so well it might as well be published by konami itself

someone please tell me what i am doing wrong in metal gear rising before i snap this fucking disc in half. ive died like 30 times at this stupid wolf boss because i cannot figure out how to consistently parry. im supposed to hold the stick in the direction of the enemy, but am i also supposed to do a weak attack? i feel like im hitting both buttons almost simultaneously sometimes, and raiden just swings at the air then gets hit. or i dont hit x and raiden just runs directly at the enemy instead of blocking. its pissing me off because i know it shouldnt be this difficult.

It's analog stick in the direction of the attack plus some button... forgot what. probably weak attack, yeah. it's all about the timing.

just need to practice.

because if you can't get the timing down, the latter bosses/enemies will be impossible.

Parrying becomes pretty easy and almost 2nd nature as the game goes on and then the game is over.

I'm playing Dragon's Crown which is pretty solid though I hate that it uses this 2d planes stuff so I find myself shooting arrows at targets that look like we're on the same plane, but they are maybe an inch up. Thats kind of annoying as someone who doesn't play 2d games.

Also playing Time and Eternity. Man is this game ugly as sin.

Gravity Rush has probably the worst controls I've played in the past 5 years. What a clusterfuck.

Desktop Dungeons

uh... i've... i've actualy finished this,i was like "what? this game has an actual final boss? i tought i would just quest around until i ran out of quest or something" the final stage was pretty hard and required you to take down several horde of high level enemies before getting to the boss and the boss itself has tons of HP so if you use too many potions for the flunkies before you end up not having enough for him... i was actualy able to barely squeeze off as a paladin

after defeating the final boss you unlock an harder version of the final stage that sounds pretty much impossible (you have to go through 3 times as many horde and the boss has 10 times more hp) but it's not like i've run out of things to do,i still have class challenge's to unlock more items, the super hard dungeon that you have to do to unlock the final 3 classes and i think there is still some bonus thingie going on...

Spelunky is consuming me, game is  hard, doesn't help that I play it with a shitty keyboard. Currently trying to reach the guy that makes tunnels to the third area and give him a shotgun, problem is I neither get a shotgun regularly nor do I even reach this guy constantly. Also unsure if it's betgter to play the mines or just the jungle, mines obviously take more time but you also get better equipment...

On the TV: Zelda: Skyward Sword.  I got to the part where you're having to go back into the old dungeons again and oh god you really do have to go back into the old dungeons again.  I can't believe they did that.

Wait, what?

SS is a tedious chore with a sprinkling of nostalgia on top so you don't notice how horrible it is for a good long time. Also those forced motion controls are really fucking terrible and get in the way of the experience far more than they could ever immerse you into thinking that you actually ARE Link. :yuck
