just "finished" Asura's Wrath. Totally bitchin' game for sure. Gonna play some other shit then go back to get some S-Ranks and achievements and play the DLC and all of that.

I'm like 65/100 monsters in Hell Yeah! so I'll finish that tonight I think. Cool game, but it does feel like it could've been so much better, so much of the gameplay and level design just feels half baked. A feast for the eyes regardless, love how colourful the game is.

Lots they can do, but sales need to be better.  They pretty much had to beg the holders of the Bally/Midway/Williams licenses to extend their deal with them because the sales have tailed off so much, from what I heard.

This is pretty funny since I remember reading the community was like "they extended their license because they're SO HAPPY with how well the series is doing!!!! More tables are coming from these guys woohooooo"

Maybe the game would sell more if they fixed the bugs and got S2 out on PS4 within a reasonable time.  There's not a WHOLE LOT TO PLAY ON THE PS4 right now, so it'd kind of benefit from that.  But they haven't even fixed the "oops, we uploaded the iOS sound effects for the PS4 version" bug that was there on launch 2 months ago.  In fact, they haven't patched the PS4 version once whereas pretty much every single PS4 game (retail and digital) has had multiple patches by this point.

We've talked about this before, and it's too bad because the core game is fantastic, but they are not doing a good job at their job.

Yeah don't count on them fixing things.  Flipper lag never got fixed on the PS3 version, we won't even talk about Xbox.  The only one they really bother with is the iOS version.
Well, FS has less than 20 people. Hiring some more people should help.

While I can appreciate the effort in remaking real tables, Zen Pinball is a better overall experience. Ball and flipper physics are much more enjoyable.

Too bad so many of the Marvel and Star Wars tables feel like thrown together shit. Sorcerer's Lair is pretty good.

The touted non-euclidean level design is nice, but it doesn't figure into the puzzles as much as I had hoped. It makes navigating the world non-intuitive, but it's less of a mind-fuck than expected. Instead, it has its own gimmick-gun that you use to solve block puzzles. :shaq2

It's not bad, just not quite what I had hoped this would be. It can be quite difficult though. In fact, I'm currently stuck with no idea how to progress. I know I need to get the red gun next and I know where it is, kind of, but I have no idea how to get there. I may have to look at a guide, but I hope something clicks when I revisit this in the next couple of days.

The non-euclidean level-design is in and of itself a puzzle that you're solving on top of the block puzzles.

I used the map to check all the obvious rooms, but nothing popped out at me in any of them. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I can't figure it out. No use beating my confused and increasingly tired head against it right now.

The non-euclidean level-design is in and of itself a puzzle that you're solving on top of the block puzzles.
I woudn't call it "solve" in the same sense as the block puzzles.

I've seen the majority of the imagines already, only missing ten or so. I figure I'm close to the end but it's time for a break.

It took me two or three weeks to play through the full game and it's nice with a break every hour or so. When you jump back in you'll notice details you've previously missed.

Zen Pinball physics and tables are shit.  You have to TRY to die in those tables or a single game of pinball goes on 20-30 mins.  TPA and its tables keep the original feel of FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE at every moment, it's the thrill of pinball, having to nudge the table to keep going while the ball consistently loves to jump to the out-lanes or position itself right down the middle.  The tables are exciting with lots of great subsystems and the physics are fun as heck.

Played a lot this weekend since I was home alone, since I finally got internet I played online mostly.

-Hearthstone; really addicting, too bad it takes soooo long to get new cards, alas its still great fun if you used to play magic like me
-Warframe; just dabbled into it, but it looks like an ok coop shooter, I like the look of it, but I can see it being grindy and repetitive maybe
-Path of Exile; hard to believe its all free for what you get, nice little game, much better then Torchlight. Wish that Diablo could have had this itemization and difficulty and some of its darknes. Gameplay itself isnt as satisfying as D3.

I dunno, Arcade's physics just feel fucked sometimes. Not in the "intended to rob you of millions of quarters" way that real tables are either. The tables are much better designed, yes, because they're actual tables, but the game itself is a little rough around the edges.

I can agree with that.  Pinball Arcade is definitely rough at the edges and has occasional moments of wtf.  That said I'm still pretty happy with it and will be pretty bummed if they kill it in the next few years.  Was kind of hoping these guys would find a niche and 10 years from now we'd still be getting new tables and eventually like 80% of all real tables would be represented.

They had three successful kickstarters for licensed tables already.  Why not keep kickstarting the license ones?  Also there's soooo many pre-80s tables out there without licenses and some of them are still pretty fun.

finshed Hell Yeah! and got 400/400. Game looked great but never really rose above mediocrity in the gameplay department. Which is a shame because the game definitely had something going on, just could've used some sharper design with the levels and enemies. The last boss I just blasted point blank with the shotgun and killed it in literally 5 seconds... wtf.

Still a good, weird experimental kind of game and still worth playing if you're a fan of 2d action adventure kind of things.

Onto - Dust: Legend of the Furries, will let you guys know if I come out of it cosplaying as Miles "Tails" Prower. My nutsack is craving some Metriodvania level shit so hopefully this delivers.

They've talked several times about doing more kickstarter tables. But they are working on their other game right now, once that is done they'll go back to doing the kickstarter tables. They also are talking with some of the original creators of these beloved tables and have thrown around the idea of them making all new tables with new licensed properties. I'm very excited to see what happens here in the next year since the Adams family will finally be out of limbo here shortly.

In games I've been playing

Killzone Shadow Fall: I finished this POS finally and now I'm going to sell it... what a waste of potential in that game.
BF4: more MP due to double xp, I finally plopped down money on premium and it is awesome.
Room/Room2: I love this game I wish there were more games like this. The second one has had me literally stumped at times.
Arcade Ball: default game I'm playing in the shitter

I got into a weird "Let's wrap this shit up" mood yesterday, and fired up Game Room to see if there was anything I should be mopping up. It turns out, despite downloading ALL the DLC packs, I only ever bought Lunar Lander, because I loved the game even though I sucked at it when it was in arcades. Yes, I am that old.  So I dicked with it long enough to move from 11,000 on the leaderboard to 500-something, which was enough for me. Then I deleted Game Room, and will probably never visit it again. It was a great idea with mediocre execution; who doesn't want to revisit the games of their youth, and compete with their friends' best scores? We all do, but Game Room was inconsistent and ungainly.

Next was Smash Bros.' clone, Small Arms. I'd not played it since 2006, but I remember being impressed at the time at how smooth the action was, and how tight the graphics were. It still largely holds up; this is definitely an engine which was great in 2006, and the game is, overall, not diminished by having its characters looking like plastic action figures running around a toy diorama background. I've only got one Achievement to go, and I'll possibly delete it, but the whole damned game is only 44MB (!!!) so I'll probably leave it for the kids.

Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid have also made appearances. I am increasingly of the opinion that I'll never be able to competently play AH, mainly due to how busy the screen becomes. I just panic as everything gets crazy busy. OTOH, CC is practically meditative. So good.

Just finished up FFXIII-2 after 2 hours on the final boss because I guess I was under-leveled since I didn't do a ton of the side stuff and just stuck to the main story.

Errr...that was...really good?  Like, yeah, that was a pretty darn good rpg.  Color me surprised as heck.  The battle system is actually pretty awesome even though you'd never know until the last dungeon/final bosses where the difficulty jumps from 5->11 and forces you to learn all the kinks of the battle systems and play GOOD STRATEGY.  The battle system is really intense in those final battles, holy shit.  Was sweating on that last boss after getting wiped a couple of times from not being fast enough.  The whole final dungeon/battles are about speed and how the battle system really is made for quick detailed strategy to take the enemies out as fast as possible while buffing/healing and overall staying alive.  Felt good on those final mega-flares to go from def/buff/heal -> def/def/def and lock into an all-guard right before it hits and then quickly heal -> counter with action.

Outside of the battle system, the main story pacing was pretty damn good.  Very quick paced game that was exciting and fun and gave enough exploration to keep it interesting.  The difficulty balance sucks though and it's too easy then WAY TOO HARD (jesus christ the behomeths in the final dungeon that one hit wipe your whole team when standing).  Dungeons are fun enough, the one dungeon with enemies every 10 steps for 90 mins was TERRIBLE and the worst part of the game, but the rest were fun.  Even the final dungeon was neat and a change of pace.

Didn't like the random battles because sometimes the encounter rate was bullshit and you couldn't interact with objects/people when enemies were on screen.

Graphics were rough and unpolished but still really gorgeous looking game.  At times I almost couldn't tell if the cutscenes were CG or real-time and could only tell they were real-time because they'd wear the costumes I had set on.  I really loved the music, nice piano, a bit Persona 3/4ish mixed with FF tunes.  The overall presentation was really good.  Great cutscene direction too.

And the story was...better than I expected hearing people say it was worse than FFXIII's story!  It's very Japanese and out there and I can see why people call it anime-ish, but it's fun even if a bit ridiculous and the characters are actually really likeable this time around, both protags and antags.  That in itself makes it a lot more enjoyable than XIII where everyone outside the main cast was one-dimensional and terrible.  Caius was actually one of the better antagonist in an FF in a while, was a decent dude even if he was just kind of Zack/Sephiroth combined.  Liked the ending too.  XIII's story was wtf and stupid and the only thing it had going was some interesting world lore and some of the main characters had nice development; XIII-2's story is ridiculous, but it's straight-forward and easy to understand without all kinds of garbage terms, just a fantasy/sci-fi short time-traveling story adventure.  Fun and entertaining like a good popcorn movie.  For a 20-25 hour rpg, I was really happy with it.

Liked that the pokemon monster thing required no extra effort and you just random get monsters at the end of battle.  Like that there is a nice open-ness to the game where you can run around the different areas time-traveling and doing quests.  Didn't like that the quests were all pretty boring fetch quests that usually required just running across the map to get some items and then you get NOTHING for doing the quests since the fragments do jack shit besides some database info and 200xp; which is why after doing all the quests in the first few locations I gave up and just finished the main story.  Still, I like that stuff is there for me to do if I feel like it.

There's not a ton of a areas, but the level design in each of them is pretty good and the different versions of them sometimes were interesting like seeing a happy place and then exploring its ruins 400 years later.

When I first started playing XIII-2 when it came out I got like 5-10 hours in and I still had no idea what the game was or what I was doing.  The game is very weird, but creative, and most of the stuff is well designed and done with a light-hearted fun touch.  Really feels like the staff had some beers and just made a fun rpg.  Back then when I was early on in the game I thought it was alright, but nowhere near the amazingly great game that FFX-2 is.  Having finished it now, I still think X-2 is a notch better, but that's because the X world is a more interesting and fleshed out one to explore.  XIII-2 is super rough, maybe if it had another year of development it'd be as good as X-2, but even rough it's still pretty good and one of the better rpgs I've played in a while.  The final dungeon and final bosses, though a bit bullshit if you aren't overleveled, really brought my opinion of the game up a good deal; had way more intense epic rpg fun tonight with the endgame XIII-2 stuff than the endgame of SMTIV, and that was unexpected!  (SMTIV's still a way better game, but XIII-2 has better final bosses).

Will get to Lightning Returns later this year.  Actually kind of looking forward to it now.  But plan is to finish more backlog rpgs in the first half of this year.  Next up:  Finishing The Witcher!  (and playing Nier)

Yeah, I think having really low expectations helped me enjoy it more than I should!  You should at least youtube the last hour of cutscenes; it has a pretty good finish to the whole thing.

I was talking with duckroll last night and the reason why XIII-2 works is that...it really has nothing to do with FFXIII.  It's the story of Noel/Caius/Yul about time-travel and seeing the future and stuff.  Was probably a story they had sitting around the office for possible use in a future rpg and then they shoved it into FFXIII-2.  Sera's role could've been any non-FF female rpg character and the world stuff was closer to a Tri-ace world like VP.  It's basically a standalone oddball rpg with FFXIII branding.

Jak 2 (ps3) - Just about done with this. Finished Tomb of Mar. The game still has its difficulty, but I don't find it as fun as I did years before. It's still great, obviously.  I guess I could say it's as good as it was then, but it's not as fun as it was then partly because I'm older.  I think this is mostly because my skills have degraded. I used to do a lot of high risk stuff like roll jumping on tiny platforms a room apart, and just had fun with it. These days I just blast my way through. I guess it's a symptom of being older and I'm less imaginative. That kind of sucks and is a downer. Oh well.

A Link Between Worlds (3ds) - Beat this over the weekend. Amazing from beginning to end. Has an over reliance on dungeons being specific _____ item dungeon (i.e. hook shot dungeon, ice rod dungeon, bow dungeon;etc) but that's really the only complaint. Dungeons, world, exploration, and adding new twists to the LTTP formula make this a keeper and a top-tier Zelda title. I thought I was over Zelda. But I guess not. I'm glad to be back, though. It's always a joy to play a great Zelda game.

Bravely Default (3ds) - Started this after I beat Zelda. Pretty good so far. It's about what I expected from the demo: awesome Final Fantasyisms with a new twist. Deserved the launch day purchase from what I've played.

Skyrim (pc) - Doing something different this run. Having fun. I joined the bards college and I joined a faction. I've never done that before, and mostly played neutral between Stormcloaks and the Imperials. I chose the Empire. I'm playing as a warrior Orc and I'm smashing shit. One quest I took out like 9 dudes in one room including a boss with Orc Rage. Felt good.

Final Fantasy 7 - Slowed down on this because Bravely Default. I'm on disc 2, collecting huge materia. Still as good as ever.

Spelunky (ps3) - Still play this every fucking day. I've gotten to the Temple, and holy shit.

After I finish the games on this list (barring Spelunky because I want to beat Hell and that may take a while), I'm going to take a gaming break for a few months and concentrate on other things. At least until Samurai Warriors 4 comes out. Lots of good gaming lately.

There is a freeware version that is exactly like the full game except for the redone graphics and extra zone so why you don't try that?

Not sure how much I played it, but I think it'll take at least 30 hours to complete. The story probably takes 20+ hours to get through, then you have to play through school mode 3 or 4 times to complete all of the social links and get everyone's endings. After that there's just item collection and some clean up, but none of it takes long because you can use chapter select to get anywhere pretty quickly.

Am I correct in my assesment that Terraria is a side scrolling Minecraft rip? I wasn't feeling it when I tried the demo.

Spelunky on the other hand...gonna buy.

From Dust seemed interesting at first but ehh.

Done with Antichamber. Looked up how to get the Red gun. Don't remember what the problem was, but I'm pretty sure I felt stupid. Then got stuck again and looked up where to go, because I didn't know how to get into the tower, or rather, the tube that runs through its 'middle'. Turns out I only had to go back to the first room and turn around... :shaq2
Weird ending. Weird game. Enjoyable enough.

Then knocked out Dust. Combat is fluid and very polished overall, but it can get chaotic. (Also very furry. That goddamned mascot...) Level-design is OK, with tons of little secrets, optional challenge areas and side-quests to encourage exploration. The enemies are mostly dumb fodder. Tactics include: zerg rushing, random jumping and high health having. If you build for damage they die fast enough, but I found myself launching anyone I could, not to set up a combo, but just to stay out of harms way. Dodging is quick and cancels animations, but it doesn't help you pay attention to every enemy at once.
The last area is a bit ridiculous in that regard. I found it hard to see what was going on and even lost track of where my character was at times. The summoners in the graveyard area cause the same confusion if you let them live long enough, especially when they spawn a couple suicide bombers.

Now busying myself with The Swapper. Great puzzle game set on an abandoned space station. You can create and swap into up to four clones of yourself who all move in lock-step with you. Puzzles consist of navigational challenges, limiting your ability to freely create, swap into and move your clones in straightforward ways. Red lights block the swapping beam, blue lights block cloning, pink lights block both and some areas have you parking a number of clones on switches to limit the amount you have left to solve the actual puzzle. Some of the hardest puzzles involve switching gravity, demanding that some clones walk on ceilings, while others stay the right way up, with very tricky timing on occasion. Very smart stuff.
I now have to go back through the station to solve the more fiendish puzzles the developers intelligently allow you to skip when you first encounter them. I felt very smart finally solving some of those. Gorgeous game with a unique, collage-like look.

Nah, Terraria has a lot more going on than Minecraft game-wise. It's much more of an RPG/adventure. You'll need to venture into tougher biomes to get materials to craft stronger armor if you want to get through the tougher areas and take down the bosses. I didn't feel it initially, but give it a few hours and you'll be hooked.

Spelunky is not crack. It is a game you play daily due to difficulty and content. Every day, there's a daily challenge and everyone on your system of choice fights over score and to see how long each person last the longest. When playing adventure mode though, you always set a goal. Maybe you want to see how far uou can get when you start from 1-1. Or you want to get to x floor or y area before dying. Or you want to unlock the next tunnel for easily traveling through the different levels. Or you want to be able to master a level to the point where you can get to the next area with ease. Or you want to unlock and complete a hidden level. Then you play the game. You will likely die a lot. If you fail your goal after a while, turn the game off. Try again tomorrow.

Spelunky is not crack. It is a skill based game that requires practice but it isn't a game where you want to play it for two or three hours a day simply due to its nature. So long as you play it regularly you will get a lot out of it. As Atra said it is not a once a week game. Your skills will likely degrade over time doing that and the competitive nature of the game is also lost.

I've played about 7 hours into FFIII and just got the airship (for reals this time). I'm think this is a bit farther than I made it during my first attempt at this game before I shelved the DS version. Right now I'm rolling with a party made up of Red Mage, Black Mage, Monk, and Geomancer. Geomancers can do some crazy damage, even though it's pretty random. For death enthusiasts, I have died once so far, against the Salamander boss that spams full-party fire attacks when he gets low on HP. Only in the 8/16-bit era could you get away with throwing something like that at the end of a multi-level dungeon with no save points.

God of War: Chains of Olympus
A bit disjointed. Stuff just kind of happens. Maybe the PS2 games were like this too though, it's been too long. Still, what's with Morpheus? He never shows up in the end. The levels where pretty basic too, but I guess that comes with the portable territory. Readyatdawn did a good job capuring the GoW essence though and even the compromised controls ended up being not a big issue.
That scene with Kratos' daughter though... Mash circle button to push your daughter away. Amazing. :lol :heh

PVZ: Garden Warfare. This game is pretty fun! I hadn't done competitive shooters or co-op horde outside of GTA Online, so this is new territory for me. There is a lot of PVZ flavor going on, and most of it is (wait for it) rosy.

I've been sick for the past few days so today for whatever reason I decided to play Zone of the Enders 2 HD. I haven't played it since release and so this is the first time I've played it post patch.  Needless to say its much improved. This game looks and runs fantastically. It's still so much fun. It's a shame we won't get a sequel.

Bravley Default-Man I really hate this game's story. Agnes is the most unpleasant female character in a long time. This is some really snore inducing story for the savior of jrpgs.

And there's far too much of it. These party members are so fucking chatty and the pacing is absolutely brutal. The gameplay and world remind me a lot of Final Fantasy of old, but the story and everything else feels like a god damned Tales game.

I don't have the patience for that kind of shit anymore. Four Heroes at least kept things relatively minimal.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is indeed the better of the two PSP titles. It could even be a mainline title, it's that good. Some of the enemies (the banshees and little ice-creatures) are fucking annoying though and getting frozen at all is a death sentence most of the time, but other than that I had a lot of fun with it. The plot is kind of puzzling, although I suppose they did the best they could, sandwiching it in-between the two PS2 games.
Oh, and it looks great up-ressed. Could fit in with the PS2 games, it's that impressive.
