Risen 2
The doge roll is the only saving grace and get this: it was patched in later, as was the ability to block attacks from animals. :wtf Before that, they could apparently stun-lock you even more effectively. Staggering incompetence.
The Witcher 2 does third person action-RPG combat so much better it's not even funny. It's not even on the same plane of existence as what PB put out here.

:lol

I'd love to see this in an RPG:

1) Attack
2) Magic
3) Use Item
4) Doge

Thanks for the review; there are so many used copies of Risen 2 on the market every time I'm in the USA, and I always think "ooh, a pirate RPG... should I bite?" I'll try to remember next time that the answer is NO.

so I've been playing Dungeon Defenders all weekend.

I haven't been playing Dark Souls 2, and opting to play Tower Defense Knight Babiez instead. Time to hand in my gamer card :tocry

Oh, and I'm playing lots of Civ Rev too, because its really fun. I spend all this damn money on games and I end up playing the ones that are free on XBL Gold :piss

God damn it. :lol

If you have it thrown at you and some morbid curiosity I'd play it for a couple of hours at least, just to see how rough the start is. It's so stupid.

I woke up early with allergies this morning, ended up playing the hell out of GTA V for the first time in a couple weeks. It is UNBELIEVABLE how much there is to do in this game. It makes me want to go back and play GTA IV, but that'd be foolish; that game won't have improved. V sure does deliver on everything I'd hoped IV would be.

WSOP updated with (wait for it) more Achievements, and new "challenges" to meet. I have to admit, having a new sub-goal does make gameplay a little more interesting. It's not just "Win 10 hands," but also things like "Gain XP 5 times from Smart Folds," or "Defeat Aaron Johnson" (an AI opponent), and  "Perform 5 timid folds" (using the emote modifiers on actions).  One of them was "Play 5 hands in a $250 buy-in game," which introduced me to manually searching for low-risk, low-return games, which is pretty neat.

And I continue to mop up in Zynga Poker, compared to WSOP, dunno why. My game is getting stronger, I'm not pursuing unlikely cards, and am conversely milking other people's lack of understanding of the Sunk Costs fallacy.

I'd like to disagree with that, and I'd love to counter that Saints Row is superior, but according to Raptr, my as-yet unfinished run on SR IV is at 15 hours, while GTA V is at 334 hours... I'm seriously hoping that's including the days I've left it on the pause menu while doing other stuff, but SHEESH. That's crazy.

Hit a game stopping bug in South Park.  Guess it's not Obsidian without some sort of bugs.  After 20 mins of frustration ended up fixing it by switching from controller to keyboard and then back again :\

Funnily enough I put my SRIV disc last night and played a couple of hours. It's so fun!

I need to get around to finishing the games I actually paid for recently, as I've been spending the majority of my gametime playing the free games with gold offerings. Good on them for putting great games on GWG, I guess!

Finished South Park.  Game was pretty much perfect.  Wouldn't change much besides making it a little tougher and a little longer.  Otherwise the gameplay, humor, graphics, music were all spot on.  A+ game.  2014's been pretty good for gaming for me so far!  It's nice not playing too many crappy games and mainly just playing entertaining good ones.

Still playing Guacamelee, made it to the mountain area but now am backtracking. Saturday I have a birthday to go to in Staten Island, but before then I'm gonna start South Park. Burnt out from constant 15 hour days but that's finally over (till the end of May)... so now time to relax with some gaming and new car shopping  8)

X-Men Legends: This game doesn't fuck around when it comes to deaths. It's so frustrating having one of them die and not having the points to resurrect them. I think the game can definitely be fun at times so I'll stick it out for now.

I played a bit of GOAT SIMULATOR. It's hilarious and busted and janky and broken with ridiculous ragdoll physics... I love it! I like how you get points for doing pointless shit like jumping on the trampolines, or licking crates. Kinda reminds me of the old Tony Hawk games for some reason...

Half Minute Hero 2

uh wow i didn't expect this to be out so soon... i guess i'm automaticaly accustomed to japanese game getting announced and then getting released 5 month later

anyway back in the random thread i said i wasn't really excited about this because the time when i cared about it was long gone, but more than that it's that half minute hero was a very good game, but it was a very good game based on his gimmick, like an internet meme, repeating it just doesn't have the same punch so i tought it would be just sort of like patapon 2 in that it would be more of the same without much tought put on it...

... and i'm not really far from it, the game start after the ending of the first half minute hero, the world is now at peace and you play as yusha (literaly hero) a soldier from the kingdom tasked with defeating 8 magical bullshit monsters and then without spoiling the game too much things evolve from there

and it's really hard to shake this "been there, done that" feeling, the stages are still varied enough to make the game interessing but so far i haven't seen one that really amused me (like the boss that would slowly turn the land into a monochromatic gameboy rpg in the original) most of the jokes are also gone

the big difference from the original is that the rpg element are now much more prominent, instead of picking each stage from a select stage option you simply travel the overworld like you would do in an actual rpg, and while traveling you can have normal fight which can increase your base level when you enter a stage (so for example currently i'm level 10 on the overworld so i start every stage right from level 10), if you go back to a previous stage you retain all the equipment you got so it's totaly possible to get a super weapon from stage 15 and use it to defeat the boss of stage 1 without to bother even fighting a single mob, you also gain money on the overworld which you can use to buy item you might have missed in a stage

then there are other rpg-like feature like the ability to make a party, weapon have skills that yusha can learn and there is also some sort of really rudimentary class system where yusha does better with certain weapon and skills depending on his class

titles are still there but now every X titles you gain, you get a reward so there is now a reason to hunt for them other than bragging right, there is also another feature where you can mix weapon together to get stronger weapons

the last new feature introduced is somewhat spoilerish so i'm going to put it under spoiler
spoiler (click to show/hide)
some of the monster you fight are giants and will automaticaly kill you if you bump them, to defeat them you have to engage them in combat with your moving castle and the castle can be customized with items you buy from merchant, this sounded awesome back when i heard it but it's not exactly the giant kaiju combat i pictured in my mind as a lot of giant mobs are just variation of the standard mobs and the castle is just a thing with legs that bump into enemies
[close]

the game is also much more chatty,it's not uncommon to get interrupted in the overworld so that yusha can have some flashback, the plot is total jrpg cheese to the point of including a rivalry with a childhood friend who looks like a sephiroth poser and played way too straight for such a game, (with the exclusion of the goddess of time, who even goes as far as saying that yusha is having "an emo moment")  that also reminds me, callback to the previous game are plenty, in fact you even meet some of the characters from the original game

the other game mode from the original seems to be gone, leaving space only for hero 30, but there is now a multiplayer mode, a boss rush mode, a time attack mode and a map editor...

What are you stuck on? Maybe I can give you some tips. Have you upgraded your weapons? Played with the crafting at all? Made new armor? There's a lot to the character customization and once you tap into it the game almost becomes too easy imo. It only gets really hard when they start throwing you into areas with empty supply chests and regions that require multiple drinks to mitigate the climate effects.

I've been playing Stranger's Wrath HD on Vita, thanks to PS+. I've never played the original. It's aight, but I'm curious why this game was heavily praised then. I'm sure it was a standout back then.

It's also badly balanced on Hard mode.

I still have my original copy sealed. :lol

I'm guessing it was one of the first shooters that had heavy characterization and love put into the world. Everything was given a personality and a sense of being which helped it stand out against the glut of WW2 era shooters at the time.

I think a big part of it has to do with the seamless jumping between FPS and third-person action, the collection of different, characterized ammunitions, and the ability to non-lethally make your way through the game. It definitely falls apart the further you go.

I liked going through the investigations. The action-based trial sequences I can take or leave. They weren't very hard, but they weren't very fun either. The storyline is silly fun, it's a super animu'ed up Battle Royale, basically, without most of the embarrassing parts of anime like pantsu shots and lolis, just the goofy parts. It does take a weak stab at Persona-style Social Links, but you can do or them or not, it doesn't have a huge impact on the game.

Then when you're the Steef, suddenly they give you all these upgraded ammos for FREE, and it turns into this pooplog FPS with waves of enemies. Stupid.

This is exactly my experience. I got so frustrated with the final boss back when it came out that I actually used cheats just to finish the game and never have to play it again. It really sucks because the game has such a good beginning and just a great concept in general. What a shame :-\

Lone Survivor :larry Such a cool concept, 2D Silent Hill, but it is so tedious. Thank God it was put up during my three months of PS+. I would've regretted buying it.

Put MH:FU on the backburner for now and I am taking a slice at Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

I've been playing a lot of Saints Row IV, I've found I've been completely and irrecoverably glitched out of the "Where's My Cape" achievement, for upgrading all of your super powers. I even loaded up an old save and followed directions to avoid the glitch - no dice. 3 hours down the toilet. I've got a save with all the upgrades ready to buy so I'll try another couple of approaches, but man I'm frickin pissed to be screwed out of 1000. It's a common glitch too, affecting players on 360, PS3 and PC. A shame Volition haven't, and will probably never, patch it.

I should go back to Dark Souls 2, but I've got Hitman sitting there, and Remember Me is tempting as it's on sale on XBL this week. Hmmm. I've got no space left on my HDD so I'm going to need to complete some of my digital games with the quickness, so that I may delete them and make some room. Lara Croft GoL is a big fat 2 gig game which I've almost got 200 in, so I'll work on that

Anybody have a tip on how to change direction while drifting in Sonic Racing All Stars Transformed? Can't get it to work. If I let loose of the drift button the turbo ignites, if I hold it and press the into the other direction, I keep drifting into the same direction I was going before, do I have to do something quickly?

I didn't even know this was possible.
