Never played Asylum. Played City and enjoyed it. I guess I liked the open hub world thingy. I enjoyed Origins, but it is less polished and prone to some mistakes. Still it had some cool new combat moves and boss battles. I don't understand the vitriol response Origin got.

It wasn't a rocksteady game so obviously it must be garbage bin tier.

Pretty much.
I don't get it either.

I am curious of how anyone could think AC is the worst of the 3.  That just straight up baffles me.

Nah I'm all about Akira in this game right now.  ANTI-WAIFU TEAM ASSEMBURU!  But I am also liking the little girl who plays basketball.  One of her moves turns the opponent into a ball which you can then shoot into a hoop like Lord Raptor in Darkstalkers.  Such a bizarre character choice.

The two top-tier characters from the arcade version are supposed to be Kirino and Shana.  I tried out Kirino online and beat a guy one round just doing her projectile attack.  He kicked me out of the room after that.   :lol  (Wondering if I should upload that replay?)  Would like to know where Akira and Selvara fit into the tier list.  Both seem top-tier to me.  The Sword Art Online guy is also pretty crazy, but if you want to make him HOLYSHITAWESOME you have to do something in the match that switches him to a duel wielding sword style.  I played a guy who did this and he combo'd me all over the screen.

Right now I'm finding that most people have no idea what "universal overhead" means and will go crouch in the corner, ripe to get destroyed.  When you do the universal overhead in this game (back+A+B) you can then follow it up with an attack which serves as a launcher, letting you do air combos.  I beat a guy 8-0 doing this.  Hard to believe he didn't pick up on what was happening.

Am also happy to report that unlike BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma and Arcana Heart 3 LM, the Vita port of this game has super-fast load times, although the character sprites don't look as detailed.

For anyone wondering about this game, it's from the same developer as the Melty Blood series and Under Night In-Birth.  It's a bit more simplistic than those games.  Very easy to pick up and play.  Am liking it a lot.

i think Dragon Age will probably be fine, actually. Far Cry 4 may be iffy. 3 had weird performance problems and 4 will undoubtedly run worse at the same settings.

Tried two Steam games I've installed but never played.  Rise Of The Triad played like garbage.  Initially I thought it was a problem with using a 360 controller, but nope, it controlled like shit with mouse/KB too.  Something is wrong when I'm right up on an enemy and still can't shoot them straight.  Uninstalled.  Then I tried Majestic Nights.  This is a 1980s themed RPG.  Initially used KB/mouse, but you get to a stealth section right in the beginning of the game and I found the controls a little annoying, so I tried a game pad.  It didn't work correctly.  When I tried going back to mouse/KB, the controls were completely fucked up.  I want to say this game is still early access so I will give it another chance later.  Ended up just playing Ultra Street Fighter IV instead.

I'm in the same boat.  I've got Dual Radeon 6850s... doubt they will be able to keep up.

So... PS4 it is for me on both.

Up to the final boss in Wild Arms 4. Missed my chance to fight Ragu O Ragla (the super-powerful optional boss in the WA series) because I didn't load an Alter Code F save and certain things unlock only if you load one, or you replay the game. Since I haven't played Alter Code F yet nor did I know you could get bonuses if you loaded the save. Nor am I in a hurry to replay this game. May try to fight a few optional bosses/do some arena fights, otherwise I'll just go and beat the game.

Beat WA4 and man that was a fucking depressing ending...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The amazing badass girl character who kicks the crap out of every enemy in the game succumbs to her illness and dies shortly after childbirth, your characters promise to meet again in the future and never do, and the lead character moves out to the forest and becomes a park ranger  ???

.

Cool to see Treesong's name in the credits though.

Also playing the US version of Diva F2 while I bide my time for Smash to ship to me. Gonna pick up Suikoden 4 this Thanksgiving break I think... I hear it sucks but gotta complete the whole series...

Suikoden 4 is a lot more enjoyable than people make it out to be, even if sailing is shit.

It has an archaic feel for a PS2 game, rather than moving the series forward into new directions like 3, without being nearly as good at emulating 1/2 as 5.

By the time I'd gotten around to playing it, I'd heard so many negative things about it that my expectations were nonexistent.

The story is just kinda...there, but it isn't offensive. The combat is not quite up to par, mostly due to the 4 party member limit, but isn't horrible. The sailing sucks, but it's made less so by R2 and the Mirror.

I dunno, it's easiest to compare it to 1 and it's definitely shittier than 1, but not egregiously so. I've played a lot of JRPGs that I had a worse time with than IV.

I've played lots of jrpgs and Suikoden IV was among the worst sequels I've ever played. It's not awful, though it's approaching that territory, but it is mediocrity defined. I wouldnt call it enjoyable, though. The story isn't offesnvie, but it's not good either. It brings in a lot of elements and story lines that end up under cooked, and completely underdeveloped. Battles aren't awful, but they're not fun either. Never mind random battles in towns. Sailing is terrible. Characterization is awful.

The only thing I like about IV are the ost and mini games.

Where are you in Suikoden IV?

You think I is shit?

So I started Suikoden 4, just got shipwrecked on a tropical island... yeah I get what you guys are saying about it seeming like mediocrity defined. The music is catchy (damn that victory tune takes me back...) but everything else, I dunno... the graphics are extremely bland although performance is great (60FPS and progressive scan)... but come on, 3 looks much better than this and that game came out 3 years earlier (nevermind that 3 runs like shit with a sluggish framerate). The story seems kinda blah and even the twisty scenes I've seen at the beginning aren't nearly as interesting as the other games I've played in the series (1-3). Sailing does suck, too many random encounters in the water. I mean I'll continue playing since it seems to move at a pretty brisk pace and it's not *awful*, just really really milquetoast.

Oh yeah and the running animation is the goofiest I've seen outside a Bethesda game.

Don't think I is shit, quite the opposite, it's just that IV felt like a half baked sequel to I as far as the evolution of the series went.

I has some of my favorite moments in the series.

It actually has better graphics than III. Do you mean art style? It has the best graphics in the series.

IV suffers from horrible direction. There are many scenes that last five seconds long. Then loading screen. Five second cutscene. LOAD SCREEN. The True Rune of Punishment has a nice premise, but it's never expounded upon. More than that, it also has a Redemption feature, which also is never explained. Characterization is easily the worst in the series. The story is entirely under developed and feels like a skirmish and not a war. The character designs are the worst in the series by a landslide. Despite taking place in the Island Nations, there are like four towns in the entire game. Just an overall sub standard product. It came out around the same time as Xenosaga II and XSII was better.

Suikoden IV is a hyper reaction to III. At the time, III had a lot of backlash. Some people didn't like the buddy system and wanted a return to the old battle system despite the buddy system being a fantastic battle system. The result? Four person parties in IV and not even a formation/weapon type system - a series staple. IV is the result of hyper infused nostalgia. It's a prequel to I and yet has nothing to do with I aside from Ted. III revealed the series' trajectory towards its finale, and IV comes out 150 years before I and reveals literally nothing new about the world of Suikoden. It felt like a complete slap in the face. III was one of the most progressive and creative rpgs of that era. Fans of I and II just couldn't shut up and just enjoy III's idiosyncrasies and differences.

Thankfully, V took the ball and did nostalgia right and actually presented a sequel that enhanced the world of Suikoden in possibly the series' best entry yet.

Still, taking all of those series revelations from III and never getting a conclusion really stung. IV may not be awful, but it's still one of my most hated games of all time.

Nearly ten years since Suikoden IV's release and across my travels I have encountered only three people who like IV: Shouta, RK, and Zephyrfate.

beat Wonder Boy in Monster World, too easy but fun.  except There's one section before the second to last boss that is like some Boshy level platforming and forces you to re-fight a mini boss each time you fail it.  Loved the part, but I also made a save state after the re-fight so I could just focus on the platforming.  Otherwise, it would've sucked major ass and I imagine it made kids quit the game left and right back in the day.

now I'm onto Valkyria Chronicles (PS3 version.)  damn good game!

AC Unity - Was 100%ing Paris but I'm so fucking burnt out I'm stopping at around 50 hours now and just clearing the story and then I'll decide whether to put another 20+ hours into all the remaining side missions & items.  This game is super average.  Unity has nice graphics and better main missions, better side missions, slightly better stealth (maybe), is slightly less punishing with auto-fails, but it's just...not that fun to play after a while.  It's too goddamn fucking long as well.  Who the hell wants a Skyrim playtime game that takes place in a single city?  If Ubi wants to do 60-100 hour games they need to be more like Far Cry with a large varied world to explore.  One city is way too repetitive and claustrophobic.  Plus it just gets boring.  They really need to reboot AC because after 7 years of yearly games it's just kind of ho-hum to play.  I only really play it for the historical database stuff and getting familiar with photo-realistic depections of famous buildings.  Not counting the tech issues, the game quality is probably about a 7.5.  Gonna skip the next AC at this point and take a break from the series for a few years.

Far Cry 4 - Like Unity except WAY BETTER in every way because the core gameplay is really fun.  There's a lot to do but it doesn't feel tedious because the sense of exploration is great (running across undiscovered locations) and the combat/hunting is a nice mix of Just Cause 2 style sandbox action and MGS stealth.  Plus I like the characters/world a lot.  As I said in the FC4 thread, this is looking like my GoTY.

Batman AC - Man, playing all these fucking sandbox games at the same time was a really bad idea.  Not touching GTAV for a while after these.  That said, about halfway through the game this has really grown on me and I'm enjoying it a lot.  Like that it's more linear and the locations are neat.  Playing with gadgets is fun and I like that it's not ridiculous sized (why the fuck is Ubisoft making all their games 60-100 hours).  In fact, enjoying it so much that I picked up Origins to play a couple of months after I finish this and a couple of months before AK.

Valiant Hearts - Wondeful game.  Great modern day point & click style adventure with a very interesting setting and beautifully sad music.  Learning a lot I didn't know about WW1.  Game is a bit long for what it is, which is why I haven't finished it yet, but every section is good.

SRW 2nd OGs Dark Prison - Almost done with this, kind of ho-hum DLC expansion.

Trails in the Sky - The 3rd - Fantastic and best Trails game yet.  Still loving it.

Metro 2033 - Kind of started playing this, but not really feeling it a few hours in.  Thinking of picking up Redux when it's like $5 because the graphics are a little dated on the original.

Mario Kart 8 - Played through all the cups on this recently.  Not really a Mario Kart fan outside of the SNES and DS ones.  Was decent enough, but as a someone who just plays them 1p it got boring pretty fast.  I like the courses but the graphics were kind of a let down compared to the screens online.  1080p/60fps is great but game is jaggy and could use some AA.  Wonder if Smash is jaggy too since it looks so clean in all the screens like MK8 did.

Looking forward to playing Bayonetta 2 after I finish up all this stuff.

Definitely shelf 2033 until you can get Redux on sale. I love the games but at this point it's 100% worth it to play Redux instead. Outside of the graphical stuff (which i still think original 2033 did somethings better) the biggest improvement is player choice. They allow you to play both 2033 and Last Light in one of two styles. The original 2033 style which is more survival horror/stealth based or a more action style the way vanilla Last Light was. They actually ask you before you start a new game which style you want. They also took some of the better economy and gamplay stuff from Last Light.

Last of Us - don't see why Sony ponies were making a big deal out of this... I just got to the part where you meet Ellie and its pretty boring so far. Long stretches of nothing happening, with occasional bland cover based shooting. Maybe it'll get better.

GTA5 - well, its GTA, for good or bad. Car controls seem MUCH better in this than the previous games, but your character movement still feels so sluggish, like you're walking in water. Mirror Park radio station is good. And I like that they FINALLY have checkpoints in the missions, the fact that you'd have to restart a whole mission if you died kept me from making any kinda progress in the other games in the series.

Ground Zeroes - very nice graphics, crisp and 60FPS. The more open approach to stealth is pretty cool, but I just end up shooting everyone anyways :P Wandered around the compound for about an hour, but couldn't figure out where to go and I eventually died. Still, seems like a great game and probably the best out of the 3 that I've played so far on the PS4.

And as for non-PS4, I've been playing Theatrhythm: Curtain Call (great music but seems like its a grind to get all the characters), Smash (amazing) and Suikoden 4 (crap, but getting slightly better now that I unlocked the whole ship).

tiesto, add me on Wii U.  Nobody ever checks their friend lists!   I didn't get very far in TLOU myself because of pretty much what you said.

With the time I had free this weekend, I sat down yesterday and tonight and played through Bayonetta 2.  The game was amazing from start to finish, just like the original, although it didn't hit the same levels of insanity that the original had.  I loved how the story tied into the original game, which I'm going to replay next.  Easily my GOTY.

Looking forward to playing Bayo 2 soon, I'm honestly really surprised in a very good way that no one is saying it's a letdown compared to the original considering Kamiya isn't involved.  I don't think there's ever been a sequel to a Kamiya directed game with a different director that's lived up to his own game quality.  Plus a lot of the non-Kamiya/Mikami directorial at Platinum aren't even in the same league as evidenced by Madworld/AR/MGR/Korra.  Very cool that this guy made a game as good as the master.

It doesn't get good until a little after Bill enters the story.  The intro is the weakest part.  Once it gets good it just gets better and better until the end credits roll.

Metal Gear Solid 2 VR missions.  it's a shame that the series isn't focused more on the core stealth action, especially 2 and 4.

Kamiya seems to be credited more than his other sequels.  and maybe it's not the worst thing that Kamiya wasn't directly involved.  a strength of bayonetta 2 is cutting out all the nonsense of bayonetta 1, and you look at where wonderful 101 went with qtes and mini-games overload.

It felt like more of the same, but much more focused...which means it's pretty damn awesome.  My only criticism is that 3rd Climax should be 2nd Climax and there should be a step higher than Infinite.  well, that and I'm just not a big fan of dodge offset as a mechanic, but that goes for both games.

yeah, pretty much.  2nd climax is a joke compared to bayonetta 1's normal (or normal in any platinum game).

So Arkham City is surprisingly not that long.  I remember when it came out people were saying it was a 20-30 hour game compared to the 12-15 hour AA, but I guess they were talking about if you do the million collectibles?  Because otherwise the main story is like 12 hours, just like AA and apparently Origins: http://www.howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=882

Even the sidequests are super short and there's only like 10 of them.  Not that that's a bad thing.  After all these long as fuck games I'm really glad to be making 25-30% game progress each night I play it.  Nice to play some fast paced, shorter games!  Probably finish it up next time.  At the tower as of last night.

My Wii U came in.

Will be playing SM3DW, Bayonetta and maybe some Hyrule Warriors.

Tomorrow night I'm hoping to take on Vault of Glass in Destiny with some Friends.

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed
Welp, I might have to 100% this. It clicked with me almost immediately. The drifting/boosting mechanic is really easy to get into and very controllable. The track design is also really cool. That aircraft carrier 'course' in particular looks amazing.

Castlevania: Bloodlines
So I've been screwing around with Retroarch. I thought I'd play this to test out the Mega Drive core and holy hell is it difficult. Only managed to limp to stage three legitimately. Save stated my way through the rest. :holeup

Sonic's cool.  Only Kart racer I've really enjoyed 1p.  Campaign is fun though I never finished it.

Alright, finished Batman Arkham City - Liked it, but definitely have some problems with it:

-Catwoman.  She controls like shit compared to Batman and lacks most of his stealth moves and utilities.  Her segments are so short and there's only 3 so it's just like...why is she even in the game playable?  Why interrupt Batman's story just to do these odd sections with a worse playing character?  Would have rather had her stuck to challenge room mode.

-The story.  Yikes.  Started off ok, had lots of awesome Joker with him sending you voice mails and all buddy buddy as you search for a cure.  Then the endgame Hugo Strange and Talia/Ra and all the twists for no reason and then that ending...eh, I don't think the game's story was good enough to deserve

killing off The Joker.

The last 1/3rd was just really messy.  Even the Protocol 10 that had been building up was

simply: shoot missiles at Arkham City...yawn.

AA's story was more simple but more satisfying imo.

-I don't know how I feel about the stealth and combat.  I feel like both were more tightly designed in AA and here it's more open but way more janky.

-Sidequests are ok, but not really in-depth.

-Riddler secrets are fun challenges but goddamn there's too many.  I'm over collectibles in sandbox games, but I do appreciate that they take more effort than running to a dot and picking up.

Played fun enough, had some neat dungeons, Hamill's Joker was amazing as always.  Definitely enjoyed the ride, but not sure if I prefer AA or AC.  Both are "pretty good" but too flawed to be great.  Will do the Harley Quinn's Revenge 90 min epilogue tomorrow and finish the last sidequests I gotta do and call it a day.

Halo 4 - Played through this on Heroic. Protheans suck. The crawler enemies and I guess the little flying ones are alright, but the Knights (or whatever they're called) are the worst enemies in the entire series. Even Halo 2's brutes are more fun to fight against. The music wasn't any good either, since I don't think I even noticed it once throughout the game. MS should go after Marty O'Donnell now that he's done with Bungie. Other than that, pretty much everything was mediocre (aside from the graphics, which are pretty great). Worst game in the series.

Titanfall - About to hit level 50. It's basically Call of Duty with robots, wall running, and double jumps. I like the complexity of the maps, the titan battles, the lack of kill streaks, and all of your movement options. I don't like burn cards and the rest of the CoD holdovers (leveling, unlockable weapons & abilities, loadouts, etc). It's a fun game, but I'll be sticking with Halo once 343 gets the MCC fixed.

Mother 3 - Up to chapter 5, about 10 or 11 hours in. So far this is easily the best traditional RPG I've played in years.

I also started playing Dodonpachi Daioujou again. I hadn't played a shump since July, so I had to spend a few days working off the rust and relearning a bunch of stuff I'd forgotten. That's always the worst part about taking a long break from these games; you forget a bunch of small details that used to be second nature. Either way, I'd like to try and 2-ALL this now. I'm not going to worry about scoring since there isn't a ton of room for improvement with my current routes, so hopefully I won't get bored, frustrated, and burned out as quickly.

Reading up on all the easter eggs in Arkham City is really neat!  Easter eggs have kind of died out in games and only really Kojima and Rocksteady do tons of them in MGS and Batman.  I think easter eggs show that the people working on the game really enjoy their work and the universe their games take place in.  Makes me look forward to Arkham Knight more.

Been playing AC4 Black Flag after realizing i actually got the game for free somehow (its strictly in the uplay client so i didn't know  :lol)

Seems cool and like Liberation before it i'm just running around and doing all the peripheral shit before going on the main stuff. Story wise it hasn't grabbed me as yet but running around on rooftops 95% of the time is making me not as bored

looking up Easter eggs is the first thing I do after finishing a game. I just like that they bury little jokes in there, and that there are fans dedicated (bored?) enough to dig around in every possible corner of the game.

Bloodlines is a pretty unique entry in the series, I enjoyed it quite a lot back in the day.

Lecarde always seemed easier to play as though.

lecarde was way easier. trying to swing with the whip in the other dudes part was terrible. game was still awesome tho. one of the best, and prolly the most underrated, entry in the series.

I picked spear guy and still got my ass beat. orz

I went back and played Super Castlevania 4 again to see how it stacks up and I have to say, Bloodlines is more impressive. The difficulty ramps up more gently in 4, but when it does it's littered with insta-death platforming segments. The last four bosses are a big roadblock too, simply because you fight them in a row. And oh god the slowdown. Anything Mode 7 makes it crawl. That segment inside the tunnel with the collapsing floor was the worst. The sound quality is better (because SNES > Mega Drive in that regard), but Bloodlines not only looks prettier, it also runs a lot better.

Not playing anything because goddamned XBL is down. I spend 6 weeks away from my Xbox, finally get to my sister's place, download a bunch of the Games with Gold titles which were blocked from downloading in Japan, and then XBL goes down for the evening. Jesus.
